Five Reasons Why Final Fantasy XI Should Be on the Vita

Hardcore Gamer: even outside of the financial sense such a move would make, there are so many other reasons why Final Fantasy XI should show up on the PlayStation Vita. Here are five of them.

Why not XVI? Would seem more plausible.

LordHiggens4052d ago

MMO Final Fantasies just need to go away...

ShugaCane4052d ago

FF XI is actually pretty good.

Menchi4052d ago

Guess you never played XI? Easily of the best Final Fantasy stories in the CoP expansion. Music in that game? Fantastic, some of the best gaming tracks around.

FFXI got so much flack for being online, yet it is easily of the best Final Fantasy games.

LordHiggens4052d ago

That can't be true, if you take away the individuality of the player/story experience your left with a feeling of just being another drop in a very large bucket. It lacks intensity it lacks seriousness when other players are involved.

3-4-54052d ago

No. They are here to stay...They just need to be re-invented and heavily tweaked for the next gen gaming experience.

Swiftcricket4052d ago

You say that like you know it as fact when you haven't even played it. FFXI really isn't like other MMOs and actually did do a pretty good job at making you feel important with the way it handled cutscenes. And I agree with Menchi about CoP being a really great storyline, they really haven't topped it yet imo and probably never will with the massive direction change the game took. The only main difference is that your party now consists of real people instead of you controlling them all. And it doesn't get much more serious and rewarding than taking on the hardest challenges in the entire series with your party of friends. FFXI really was a rewarding experience that I'll miss. I'm not even a very social person and generally do things alone even in MMOs and I still made some great friends that I still talk to today. I wouldn't call it my favorite (FFVI and FFVIII won't lose that spot), but if anything it felt like more of an adventure than any other entry in the series.

MMO should just go away..... 99% of them are generic, the remaining ruined by one reason or another, and all they do is drain your money.

jsslifelike4052d ago

Sounds like someone needs a prescription for Guild Wars 2!

ps3_pwns4052d ago

drains your life. im sorry but spending years and years in one single virtual world is not only limiting but unhealthy. on top of that you dont own it so when servers go down those years upon years you spent is no more then but a dream.

profgerbik4052d ago (Edited 4052d ago )

Thing is people over exaggerate on that. Fact is there is a big chance a person is already planning on playing video games in general all their life. So that spending years playing a MMO really is nothing when that person is still playing other games or would have been even if MMO's didn't exist.

There are very few people who actually sit on an MMO every single hour of the day. Most people just like the majority all play many different games and MMO's might be included. Those same enthusiast who take it over board in MMO's are seen in every single genre of games there are.. RTS, RPG, FPS.. Ect.

Again it all depends on the person.

Games are like drugs, they can be played responsibly but the opposite could be said that some people just don't care play them irresponsibly but those people would probably risk their health doing whatever it is they do, over working yourself in general can also be bad for you.

I just think that is a general misconception. A MMO can be played just like any other game. It is how addicted a person becomes to that type of game that is the problem, not necessarily the game itself.

Swiftcricket4052d ago

While I agree it isn't healthy to play games for hours on end (not just MMOs), and you will eventually lose what you gained in a MMO, the actual friends you make playing aren't a dream. I've made great friends on this game that turned into RL friends. A little self control is all you need to play a MMO without it being detrimental to your health.

jsslifelike4052d ago

I fail to see how porting an MMO to a platform with such a low install base would make "financial sense". Am I missing something?

TongkatAli4052d ago

Cause the install base isn't that low and the Vita can play it easily and profit ?

Final Fantasy XI Online November Update Goes Live

The latest update for Final Fantasy XI Online, the 'November Update', is now live across all platforms where the game is playable.

Kurisu159d ago

Can't believe this game is still getting updates 21 years after it launched. That's crazy! XI remains the only main numbered FF that I haven't played.

MrNinosan159d ago

At the time, it was an amazing game if you had a good Linkshell and/or friend to play with.
A MMOROG that actually required teamplay to be played.

Spenok159d ago

Easily one of the best games ever. As you said, it had the caveat of NEEDING a good group to play with, but I've never had memories/experiences like that in ANY game since.

I've been chasing that experience since I stopped playing it, and the closest I've come to is FFXIV. And even that is still vastly different.

Seraphim158d ago

Played the shit of this 20 years ago. Getting the Serket ring was epic. Idk how many mornings we spent camping before we finally got the pull and I won the roll upon defeat. It was great solo, but you really need a good link/squad for some of the notorious monsters....

MrNinosan158d ago

@Seraphim
I loved those camping hours for every NM of interest.
Leaping Lizzy or what was it's name. Damn, so many days and nights 😅

And first time you got attacked by the Kraken on the boat, omg...

MrNinosan159d ago (Edited 159d ago )

Why tag all those platforms where it ain't playable then?

Spenok159d ago

To get more engagement with his article, and drive clicks. DUH!

(Thanks, I'll go ahead and report that).

YoungKingDoran158d ago

Wish they'd release it for PS4, 5, Xboxes and Switch - it ran on ps2 and still works on potato PCs so should run well everywhere

Disrespecting The Consumer: The Critical Problem With Live Service & GAAS

Live service games are vehemently criticized and companies need to rethink & prioritize respectful game design for consumer benefit.

Kaii261d ago

Gabe says not being publicly owned is a huge part of what makes Valve so successful.
"The whole point of being a privately held company is to eliminate another source of noise in the signal between the consumers and producers of a good."

Looks at Destiny 2 > I used to go into a store to find a game. Now I go into a game and find a store.
"Bungie reportedly expressed concerns over how engaging The Last of Us multiplayer project was"
Bungie at GDC "Beware of overdelivering, quality doesn't matter, a live service being fast is more important than quality"

meh

P_Bomb261d ago

I remember that headline about Bungie and Factions. I’m not a Bungie guy, but I am a Factions guy. Can’t help but wonder if their GaaS input will be to my liking. 🤔

ChasterMies261d ago

I always thought Destiny would be better if Bungie built the game and then handed it off to another company to run it.

Christopher261d ago

That's kind of the GaaS whole thing, though. This is like telling wolves to stop behaving like wolves.

P_Bomb261d ago

Was looking at the top games in my country as per the PS Store and it’s overwhelmed by service games. Blood is in the water.

senorfartcushion261d ago

The issue is that journalists mostly ignored this issue as it was arising. Games like Overwatch were considered exciting until lesser news websites and organisations began taking opinion pieces on the problem. From then it’s just gotten worse.

ChasterMies261d ago

A lot of “game journalists” are just extensions of the corporate PR teams. Remember when Bungie flew people out to Bungie HQ and showed them the 4v4 multiplayer in Destiny 2? Everyone who attended said this was the best decision for multiplayer. Less than a year later, Destiny 2 went back to 6v6. Everyone who attended said this was the best decision for multiplayer.

FinalFantasyFanatic261d ago

The issues are so prelevant, that I just immediately skip over the majority of GaaS games, hardly any are worth the time. The mainstream media glossing over the issues is nothing new, you always have to wait a few months for the real reviews or opinion pieces (that tends to include video game reviews as well).

FinalFantasyFanatic261d ago (Edited 261d ago )

This is why I won't spend money on a lot of these games, not only do they nickle and dime you at every opportunity, but a lot of these games have a very short life span, not many of them survive for multiple years like Fortnite has.

I also feel like most MMOs in generally are more aqueduct in terms of content, for what you pay, I feel like a lot of them give you a decent amount to enjoy.

Profchaos261d ago

Gaas the game doesn't end untill people stop paying

sadraiden463d ago

I think I speak for the entirety of humanity when I say this update announcement doubles as a reminder that this game still exists.

Auron462d ago

I wish theyd port this game to modern consoles

Spenok461d ago

I'm honestly surprising it's still going. I have some of my most fond memories in gaming on this game. And I've been gaming for over 25 years.

I wish I had the time to keep playing it, but I just can't. Good on SE continuing to support it after all this time.
