IGN- Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk Review

IGN:Atelier Ayesha feels like a middling compromise between what fans want, and what the masses need. It doesn't do nearly enough wrong to alienate its loyal, niche fan-base, but as an RPG it's a lesser game than Rorona and Totori. Item synthesis continues to be a big draw, but many other elements have either been simplified or removed, resulting in a game that's admittedly less tedious, but also less challenging. If you play this franchise exclusively for the crafting, you'll have just as good a time here as any of the previous games. But if you're looking for the demanding resource management and memorable charm of the Arland Trilogy, then this isn't the alchemist you're looking for.

I am enjoying the game a lot, close to the final boss in a matter of fact. Personally although i liked the Arland series the time management restrictions at times became very tedious especially in Rorona. Meruru & Totori scaled it back a bit but often times i needed multiple playthroughs to get some of the better endings just cause i ran out of time.

With Ayesha you don't have to worry about deadlines that in previous games prevented some events from occurring. Now you have more time to scavenge for materials, level up for tougher fights & building relationships to get character endings. The main time restraint is that you have 3 years to complete what is necessary to get an ending other than the bad, cause once 3 years are up & you did not complete the main story arc you get the bad ending.

As for the characters Ayesha is a charming, adorable main character & although some of your companions are not as memorable they still have their charm & moments. Personally some of the memorable characters are the NPCs you meet.

The music is fabulous & if you are willing to spend the money on the PSN store you can unlock the entire soundtrack to change in the game. Other songs are from previous Atelier games all the way back to the PSone days.

If you liked the Arland series or Atelier franchise in general it is a welcome addition to the series. Much more lenient & accessible so it is a good game to start if you are new to the series.

Personal opinion i would give it a 7.5-8/10
