Saints Row IV First Details & Teaser Trailer Revealed

Saints Row IV has been officially announced for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and will be arriving on August 20, 2013.

Here's the official storyline and a list of features that players can expect from the new game.

I miss the somewhat serious story they had in the first two games. Both of them had a great balance of serious and fun. I was so disappointed by the third because I was anticipating it so much because the Saints series has been my favorite series of this gen so it was a bummer to see how the third turned out. This looks the same as the third and they still are in steelport. I am sorry but that city blows compared to stilwater

I read your comment and thought to myself, well, it couldn't get that much over the top from SR3. Then I played the video. In the 30 odd seconds of the trailer I saw:

* A man flying into the sky
* A robot shooting lasers
* Huge alien ships
* A man punching another man made out of water
* A naked pink or purple man walking in a nightclub
* A quad bike covered in lasers
* People getting punched into the stratosphere
* A bunny rabbit doing the robot dance
* An actual robot doing the robot
* A mech shooting lasers
* People dancing dressed as punks
* A scantily clad women dancing.....upside down
* A man dancing....dressed as a hot dog
* A giant monster truck....which probably turns into a robot
* A purple version of the Flash
* And a giant enery drink can smashing up buildings.

You're right it doesn't but then again it was never meant to. They can both co exist. GTA was always a little more grounded which is fun but Saints row was always over the top which is fun as well. I'm definitely getting both.

They're SO different that you really can't compare. Maybe the original Saints Row, or Saints Row 2 could be compared to the PS2 era GTA games. But 3 and 4 or so remarkably different from any GTA, that this "rivarly" between the games/fans, shouldn't even exist anymore. They are in their own realm now with the over-the-topness of Saints Row. Rockstar has taken the realistic route with GTA, and that's perfectly fine also. We can have both types of games exist.

It's probably already got a leg up over GTA5 for me.

Rockstar will try to shove a story about how the main character is a sympathetic anti-hero in it's cutscenes, like how Niko complains about how it's hard to see good in the world after the 'horrors' he's seen.

Then when you walk outside you'll immediately steal a car and run over 13 pedestrians, then get out and shoot some people with shotguns while Niko yells insults and profanities at them.

Saints Row at least knows it's stupid and just rolls with it. Rockstar keeps you crazy and sociopathic in the gameplay, and then tries to portray your character as someone completely different in the cutscenes, and it's jarring as all hell.

Same thing with tomb raider she feels sad about killing a deer and killing her first enemy but then goes on a Gears of war style kill Fest the rest of the game.

I can't wait till this comes out. I had a blast playing Saints row the third and now i can fly. I'll buy it. And yes it all looks like saints row 3 we get it. However they might not charge full price for it. It may get a lower price tag you never know.

Well I won't be buying this junk. I was seriously hoping they would go back to the series roots and it's pretty damn clear they did the exact opposite.

It's the fact that SR3 and this game are supposed to be part of the Saint's Row series that bothers me since they are NOTHING like the first two games.

SR2 had a good balance of everything, all it needed(and didn't really) was better graphics.

SR3...terrible, nonsense story and TOO much stupid and now this goes even farther.

I would have probably not been as disappointed with SR3 and this game if they took all references and relations to the Saint's Row series out and named the games something else, anything else...Super Wacky Silly Fun Land.

Even then SR3 would still not be very good content-wise, but that's a different discussion. The point is that SR2 is still in need of proper continuation, if that's not going to happen, kill the series and name this crap something else.

Regardless, they won't get my money right out of the gate. I MIGHT Redbox it for a night or pick it up on Amazon used for cheap. New? No way.

The graphics take me away from this game. I can't help but looking at it and thinking "damn, GTA IV looks better than this". Saints Row 4 doesn't look any different from Saints Row 3, I have a feeling this will flop because of the soon to be released GTA V.

Rockstar puts more work into crafting one block of their hyper-detailed cities than Volition puts into their entire games. And now they are desperately rushing this sequel out to try to stay relevant before GTA V releases. I have a feeling this SR will score in the low 70s or below on Metacritic and will sell nowhere near the past 2 games' numbers.

The Third was awesome, it was the only game where I could dress up as a toilet and fight zombies with Burt Reynolds using nothing but a dildo.

okay, what i hope they do is add really good boss fights, by the look of that saints row version of Mr Puff (Ghostbusters) hopefully they will put in a god of war type qte boss fight that would be fun,

being able to select your own finsihing moves, similer to when you choose a insult or a thumbs up.
in 3 you could feed a grenade to a brute but that was it, we could use more excution animations, rip out their hear MK style, if on the road you could have the option to push them into traffic, a train if on train tracks, a simple on their knee's bullet to the head, or you can take a key from MGR and have a sword styles slice and dice finishing move, finding and using them i think would be alot of fun,

also saints row the thrid didn't allow you to play
previous missions (im not sure why) bringing this back is a much more comfortable form of replayablity, rather then just making a new game just to play that one mission.

and apperently since this is a mental world, are we just going to be fighting aliens, or will they peer into the saints psyche and have us vs all of the gangs of the past games (terrible idea at least some of it)and does it really have to be a genjustus induced world, the world of saints row is crazy enough to put in some reason for them being able to get super powers, although the only thing would be civialian slaughter (the leader is president now) but not like that would change much they rob banks whilst being No1 celebrities.

ps. on a side note im pretty sure in 3 if you go for the kill eddie (killbane) option you take on the daedulus super ship, courtney makes a comment that they could in a few years build their own, will we get our own saints pimped out airship?
