Ahh Avatar, the Crysis of the movie industry.
Sure it looks good but otherwise it plays like garbage.

Ezz20134055d ago

i have GOWA
and it look almost CGI ..i don't know how this is possible on ps3

so i do know ND and SSM and other sony's 1st part studios will get there on ps4

Scenarist4054d ago (Edited 4054d ago )

@bitbydeath

8 agrees ... you mean yall dont think avatar is a good movie?...

i loved it...

OniXRuleZ4054d ago

Very Good movie! But 90% os people here are Kids.... so dont mind the coments!

BitbyDeath4054d ago

Yea, i didn't like it. It had many things in it that didn't make sense like how they threw a burning torch onto a ground scattered with leaves and nothing caught fire.

Don't remember the other things that bothered me as it was quite a few years ago now since i last saw it. Just couldn't get into it cause of the flaws.

MysticStrummer4054d ago (Edited 4054d ago )

It's a decent movie and visually awesome, but it's plot is nothing special. The acting is mostly decent also but I thought the main bad guys, the marine and the company man, were both pretty cliched with their dialogue and their delivery. The hero is a bad actor also, or at least he has been when I've seen him in anything.

OT - Saying the new consoles will get CG movie graphics is pretty vague. Most games will not look as good as the best CG.

arbitor3654055d ago

ever since the pre rendered cutscenes of FFX and kingdom hearts, I have dreamed of a day when those kinds of visuals would be in-game footage. I think that day is getting close.

LightofDarkness4054d ago

Ugh, not this again.

No, they won't be CG quality. They will be able to to do much more, but it takes render farms 100s of computers dense months to render a single scene of something like Avatar, computers designed solely to perform such tasks at that.

We still won't have realistically simulated light (ray-tracing/path-tracing), perfectly blended animations and particle simulations of fire, water and materials close to what modern CGI can accomplish. But we MAY start to see assets that are less distinguishable from their hi-poly meshes (which are used to create normal maps and such), which come closer to CG quality counterparts, and higher resolution textures. But all of that other stuff is pretty far away from what we can expect.

Scenarist4054d ago (Edited 4054d ago )

the only things that will determine CG quality or not.... are

LIGHT AND SHADOWS & how well they can be rendered .... there i said it again

Scenarist4053d ago (Edited 4053d ago )

we have everything else...
advanced lighting and shadow rendering.. is the only thing we have not achieved (for real time use) but we are close

what do you think next gen is trying to focus on ?

we have had hi res textures for a while and hi poly counts !

what is left ?
Lighting and shadows

also .. if u take away all the textures and have low poly counts.

the lighting and shadows can stand on its own.
heres a small scale example of what im talking about (not a whole scene .. no textures... just light and shadows)

edit: i do have to add one more thing... we need wayyy better anti aliasing . cause quality cg is alias free

LAWSON724054d ago

I love how avatar is so well known to bad it is a very crappy movie, IMO

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

Profchaos8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle7d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger7d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag7d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.

DustMan13d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
