I am not saying that u r wrong, i am saying that u cannot say that for sure until we are able to see it running and see how game developers use the new architecture. It isnt architecture that exists anywhere yet. And many ppl play games on pc but dont have the high end pcs.

Anyway, it shouldnt matter because pc will benefit from better consoles, as they drive software sales. Yeah, the best pcs will still have display and graphical options that the consoles do not. But, i will say it again, not everyone cares or can afford it. I have a pretty good pc and for many games, i love it but i love my console too. And in many cases, games are ported and look better. Now they will be better too.

If you think studios and publishers give PC gaming the backseat now, just wait until the PS4 hits. Backseat nothing. You will be lucky to get towed behind the gaming car by a 100 ft rope.

I'm not, nor have I ever been a PC gamer. Throughout the years there have been a couple PC games I've been dedicated to, but the last one I actually owned was UT2k4. Though I have played and enjoyed some more recent PC games like STALKER and The Witcher. So basically I don't know jack for the most part about technical specs in terms of what's-what on PC, so what I'm going to ask is a serious question because I honestly don't know, but.................

Isn't PS3 more powerful than an equivilent PC? I know PS3's proccessor in terms of raw speed is still faster than most other chips, but all the "chokepoints" basically makes alot of the speed pointless, and it's GPU is lame and it only has 256Mb of RAM and 256Mb of vRAM.........more specifically my question is: Could a PC from 2006, with a highly restricted proccessor to GPU through-put, an equivilent to PS3 GPU and 256Mb of physical RAM run games that look like Killzone 2/3, or Uncharted 2/3, or play Crysis 2/3 and BF3 on equivilent graphics settings to the PS3 versions of those games?

I honestly would love to know, but I can't imagine on the box for the PC version of BF3 and Crysis 3 is says next to minimum system requirements "256Mb of RAM" or even "512".

PC elitist compare the locked in hardware of the ps4 to the absolute best hardware on the market for PC in terms of performance. Two years past and those same elitist compare the same locked-in, ps4 hardware to the best PC has to offer that year. They're always comparing a constant to the best case variable at the time.

Second factor
PC is still considered an afterthought when it comes mass market games. You're spending $200-$300 more dollars for slightly better frame rates and higher resolutions. Windows also cripples GFX cards heavily. Piracy is far more widespread on Pc than consoles. Publishers have a far better chance of seeing a return on their investments if the release the game on consoles instead of PC. Outside of Battlefield 3 and Witcher 2, there weren't many PS3/360/PC games where PC was the lead platform.

Lets look at it this way, currently if I play GTA4, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Metro 2033 or Crysis 2 on PC, they do look better than the console versions with better looking textures and frame rates, but at the end of the day, you are still playing a console game.

Its pretty safe to say that the best bang for you buck is to own a PS3 or a 360 instead of shelling out a bunch of cash for a mid to high end PC. Going into the next generation, the PS4 will be a dedicated gaming machine, which the developers will be able to use to surpass most gaming PCs out there, and there will be no compatibility issues, no Punkbuster issues, no firewall issues and far less cheating than what you see on PCs.

The best way to think of a PC, is to compare it to an old Chevey 350 with a carburetor, which is very in-efficient and is a gas hog, whereas the PS3 and the PS4 are like a finely tuned Audi R8 with a fuel injected 4.2 Liter V8.

Finally a developer says what I've been saying all along. When next gen consoles release they will essentially be high end PCs at bargain price. Will there be PCs more powerful than the PS4 and next Xbox? Sure there will, but how many PC gamers will own a PC of that caliber? Not too many and it'll certainly be a couple years before a PC of PS4's caliber becomes standard among PC gamers. As of right now very few PC gamers if any at all have a PC that out powers the PS4.

I seriously don't get why PC gamers get all defensive when it comes to consoles out performing PCs anyway. We all in 3-4 years you guys will eventually get the cash to upgrade your PC to out do the PS4 so why cry foul now when you know years down the road you guys are going to be crying about how the outdated PS4 and next Xbox are holding PC gaming back.

I've never associated the 2, console gaming to me is its own field and pc gaming is a completely different field like handheld gaming is. To me anyway. We don't get a lot of the pc games and pc doesn't get a lot of the console games.

LOL! The PS4 has a GPU that is OUTDATED already by two generations of PC hardware and it hasn't even been released yet. I've had 8gigs of DDR3 RAM in my PCs for over 4 years now. The only reason I haven't upgraded beyond 8 is because NO GAME uses more than 3.5 currently.

Will the PS4 be a beast of a console? Hell yes it will! Will it out-power most PCs for years to come? Yes- NON GAMING PCs. Will it outpower current mid level gaming rigs? NO. It is already outdated even for current mid level gaming let alone mid level hardware 9 months from now.

To the people responding to decrypt, why would the PC have to cost less than $600? I have a PC that is more powerful then the PS4 and it was less than $1,000 1 1/2 years ago. However, my PC runs literally millions of programs, how many programs run on the PS4? My PC even lets me run software that I've been buying for the last 20+ years, yet the PS4 wont even let me play any of the games I've bought for my PS3. Face it, the PS4 is a video game machine, nothing more. In 3 years time, you'll be able to purchase a low end gaming machine for less than $500 that will be more powerful than the PS4, yet a PC does far more, so it's worth more.

the thing many of gamers seem to be disregarding, that in order for PC to have any of those high level enthusiast PC's even brought to there limits they need game publishers and developers to make that level of content to begin with.

2. someone mentioned having a PC on here that was over 1000 dollars and beat a Playstation 4. so what you're telling me is that 160,000,000 people will own that very same PC or equivalent in the next 5 to 6 years? if it's estimated that 60,000,000 people own a gaming PC's, how many will truly only own enthusiast PCs like the fancy 1K one mentioned? it doesn't take much in order to max out most games one doesn't indeed need that famous 1000 dollar PC.

that reason alone is why most publishers won't support development of a game for a enthusiast PC. which brings me to my third reason.

3. It has nothing to do with the level of power it has everything to do with how many people even own that much power. The only reason the number of PC's being developed specifically for gaming has risen, is because the prices of these PC parts are lowering and developers are scaling games better on PC to capitalize on newer GPU features ie DX11 and low budget indie titles have open source platform to make money on etc. I doubt the sales of AMD and Nvida GPU's for the last 8 years reach 160 million.

PS4 will probably do a couple million over any GPU to release in the same amount of time. its sales will decreased the cost of most of this hardware better than any company could ever do. developers have a better incentive to develop for a system with actual REAL sales. so its a couple million with enthusiast PC's VS a potential 200 plus million install base on consoles.

It's not that the hardcore enthusiast PC's are not as powerful, its that not enough people own them to even care about developing for them. The idiocy that comes from someone complaining about the power of a PC that barely any one even exclusively develops for, even less developing specifically for extremely high end. it's almost like me stating " your 1000 dollar PC is complete utter garbage, my workstation PC has a 4 terabyte SSD and a 16 gig vram GPU and 64 gigs of ram" if you could find whats strange and odd about that sentence you can now find why majority of this bickering is quite useless and silly. PC gaming needs consoles to get to developers to start developing with better hardware, consoles need the PC to keep pushing this technology and the industry. If there was no PC gaming it would be no target for Sony or Microsoft to make there systems on, nothing would really stop them from continuing to make underpowered systems if you couldn't get more power elsewhere on PC's.

PC's keep companies like Sony and MS on there toes. ie, Sony and MS MUST release a PS5 (next MS system) etc because come 7 years, PC's will have that 8gigs needed for gaming as the norm, mainly because of the nextgen push that will happen with 3rd party developers. Once they start porting to PC fomr PS4 and 720, expect the new norm to be 6 or more gigs. Now that 8 gigs isn't just a "high end" thing, it will actually start being used in PC gaming development.

thus it all comes around full circle. Consoles get the numbers up in terms of tech, publishers port to PC, PC now upgrades tech to match it and so on. Of course in the next 3 years or so you will see some BEAST PC games, but look at it this way, someone has to let MS and Sony know its time to upgrade. LOL.

By the time the PS4 comes out, it will be using a mid-end video card from last gen, whereas today it would be using a high-end video card from today's gen. And PC gamers will keep updating their rigs.

PC is the lead platform for Ubisofts new game , Watch Dogs.
The PC is always the lead platform or have you forgotten all console games are developed on PCs? They are just dumbed down for consoles with lower res textures to fit into their memory then the devs work backwards to upgrade the graphics again for PC. It's very counter productive.

Those two statements seem very contradictory.

I didn't press agree or disagree, but I agree with the top statement. That's the point PC gamers here don't seem to get. Just because they upgraded their rig doesn't mean everyone did. With a PC you can keep your rig ahead of a new game's system requirements, but that's usually going to mean you have substantially more power than you need. Devs aren't going to put in extra work to squeeze more out of a game than most people will ever see.

Most PC's aren't used for high end gaming. But then no games are made for it either. The best rigs will always be held back by the majority.

To my understanding, PC gaming rigs have a 60 million or so install base, which in turn means that even LESS actually have "High end" or "Beast" PC's.

Thus, the PS4 WILL be more powerful then MOST gaming PC's JUST based on that those gaming PC's (in terms of High end) won't just reach 100 million PC's, mind you they didn't with ALL PC GAMERS period, how can they have all high end PC's over a PS4?

This is why PS4 having such power is a big deal. When PS4 and 720 reach 200 million install base, you will have the most "High end" gaming machine install base.

Never mind that 3 or 4 million people will have HD 9870's and GTX1000's etc. Means nothing if no developer will even exclusively support it.

The real problem with PC gaming in terms of exclusive content comes from the fact that the install base is quite fragmented. You have AMD/Intel, HDD vs SSD etc, but that is actually the least of the problem, its the fact that pretty much anyone who builds a PC will chose what they want in it and don't want. Thus you end up with 4 users wanting 4 different PC's.

MS did 2 things. They added DVD and not ever 360 had a HDD. The market has now been fragmented. GTAIV can not be made with 25 or 50gigs in mind, cause they can't make it on the 360, it now has to be made with 7gigs in mind. The rest of the game can't be installed cause not ever 360 user has a HDD (another fragmentation)

Now if this all happened with just a single consoles, think about the millions and millions who game on PC's?

Gamers with Laptops, gaming on Apple's, gaming on low end, high end, CRAZY 4 TB SSD, 6gig GPU high end!etc. So how can they make a game to take advantage of a system that they don't even know just how much of the market even owns said components? They knew roughly how many 360's did't have HDD's and it STILL hindered GTAIV, so....how can they do this on a PC?

Your answer...they won't. If they do, its multiplatform and its the bare minimum of what is known for PC gamers to have as the norm. This gen it was 4 gigs, thus 4gigs was only RECOMMENDED NOT REQUIRED. Not even Crysis requires 4gigs. Thus they can't take advantage of a peice of tech the install base ALL doesn't have. They couldn't with GTAIV.

PS4 is a big deal because every PS4 that is sold will be a beast high end machine. We won't get a "6gig" here and a "3gig" there. EVERY PS4 WILL HAVE THOSE SPECS, thus developers and publishers need not rack there brains on weather the install base has this or that. They just do.

Now I say this as a PC gamer too. I own PC, consoles and handhelds etc.

Look I think the biggest confusion is around the whole Teraflops issue. Just because a a machine is clocked at 1.8 teraflops doesn't mean it cannot render graphics as well as a machine running at 2.8 teraflops. Heres an example: The Ps3 is has 2 teraflops in raw power and the Ps4 at 1.8 teraflops and the Ps4's games look much better. So just because this years mid-range Radeon has more teraflops doesn't mean it will produce better graphics. Besides this I still find it hard to believe, I think Linus Blomberg was referring to most commercial mid-range PC's but than again when you see the Last of Us and the Opening Sequence in God of War 3 and you compare them to games running on PC rigs 10 times more powerful, the game on the PC rig does not look 10 times better. Its amazing what developers can do so who knows? Maybe some Ps4 games will look as if they are being played on Geforce GTX Titan (Its very far fetched)?

When i search for the best pc exclusives i don't see anything interesting to me. If i had money i would buy a gaming pc for multiplatforms to play the better versions which completely worth it because of how the big difference between them and the console versions . While I agree that PC is and always will be more powerful than the consoles, it does have alot of great exclusives to mention. A few to mention series are like Deus Ex, and Diablo. Some great PC exclusives are: PlanetSide 2, Guild Wars 2, Starcraft 2, ArmA 2 and 3, Cobalt, and DotA 2. These are but some of the great PC exclusives that we have, I love my PS but come on and give the PC some love. :)

Almost every game does look better. Even if nothing else has been done to a game they will have better resolution+anti-aliasing, AF, framerate, and almost all of them will have higher resolution textures since when you do that kind of art you start with high resolution and lower it down to get in whatever performance window you need for the console.

And when you go beyond that, part of PC gaming is modifications. You can find all kinds of graphical enhancements for PC games even when the developers don't officially support modding. If you want an incredible example go look at what EnB and other graphical mods has done for GTA4.

PS3 has 400-600 Gigaflops at most. It was sliced down from a 2Tflop GPU down to that.

Still I agree it is likely to render things much more efficient than a typical PC. Unreal 4 was said to require 2.5 Tflops for 30 fps for Samaritian demo. If PS4 can do it with 2 Tflops at 30-60 fps then its a big deal. Infamous Second Son video seems to replicate the same effects in some ways.

PCs sure are entering up to 5 Tflops range for single video cards soon though so I wouldn't say all gaming PCs are inferior in anyway.

PS3 can do a combined 400GF with SPU/RSX, 200 each. PS4 does ~2TF (10x more than RSX or CELL) with GPU alone. No performance numbers were given for the CPU. But 8 cores with AVX extensions can be quite powerful, especially in a high bandwidth environment with GDDR5 memory - even thought those are low power cores.

The UE4 demo was ported in a couple of weeks without any optimization. I guess this will quite improve over time.

what these kids fail to realize is the ps4 is still having a hard time getting 1080p and 30fps as was seen with the killzone demo. I play BF3 in 1200p with 60+ FPS and everything on Ultra or very high, including AA and other filtering. Games can look good and run low frame rates with some effects turned off or very low, that is a console. But higher resolutions, more effects, are what the pc stands for.

I play my PC every day and I'm an active clan player as well. So i keep my rig up to the current gaming standard's. It runs everything without any issues I'm on the Arma3 alpha atm and I'm enjoying it. Here's PC gaming's biggest issue right here.

When the new consoles come around there's gonna be a new slew on exclusive's. Who's to say the new PS4 version of games etc are gonna hit PC. Hell it took an age this generation for us to get any off the ps3 EA sport titles and that was just one example. Dev's don't always make there games in the current market anymore to please the PC market so we have to wait.

Meaning we can make these games look better yes but while we wait all we can sit and do is admire the console version off the game and wish we had it. Hense this is why i buy consoles as well. Why wait its a piss take imo and if i can get the games and play now i will.

The GDDR5 with the CPU and GPU on one bus will allow HSA with a 176GB/s peak performance which will take a while to be matched by any PC architecture in the near future. Sure, it will never match brute force GPU TFs or CPU benchmarks, but it will be a while before PCs will even be close to that bandwidth. So, yes, the GDDR5 is a factor also, which should be considered as quite unique. Kaveri will be a spin off of that later the year but won't match it (but it's only designed for a max of 55GB/s bandwidth). Tech is not black and white. There are unique thinks here and there. Brute force performance is not everything; especially if it's bottlenecked. You might feel comfortable because the visual results look convincing, but the truth is, you have no idea where the real bottle necks are.

The CPU is a mobile CPU it is not as powerful as a standard PC processor. If you have been shopping the PC market recently you will notice AMD is not really hot in terms of performance VS Intel in these past years. This includes the standard PC video card vs a mobile video card.

Same thing happened in all the previous gens (before release) oh my god this is a PC killer..... but soon after the release console fanboys again started making excuses that "gameplay" is everything, because they realize that the console cannot match with the PC configuration.

The best games graphically this generation were great Gears, Uncharted, Killzone. Were pretty but the textures were washed out and low reslution vs PC games.

So that's between a GTX 650ti and GTX 660 and we have to count the fact that the GPU is on same socket of CPU SO it's an APU means that raw power will be limited because of efficiency concerns over heat produced and wattage. Considering that right now a GTX 660 is around 200$ I do hope the PS4 will be lower than 450$.

As for games well it will be the same old OH YEA NAUGHTY DOGs 65$ GAMES THAT LAST 2-3 weeks and then you exchange it back for another 2-3 weeks longevity games. awesome !!

PC gamers can make mods that rival and in many cases are superior to the main game itself. The graphics, level design, and overall quality of some mods destroy those of the main game itself. That is something that no console can ever achieve.

Playing COD on console is one thing, but once you add the awesome new levels, different weapons, skins, graphics, etc...that the pc version brings. Oh man!!! And COD is not even that great on PC, don't get me started on others.

Except pretty much 95% of PC games don't even support mods at all. We get very few games with proper mod support. Very few games even allow basic mods like high res textures. The most you can do with the majority of PC games is some config tweaks.

CoD for example. You can't do much with them. The last CoD to have true mod support was CoD4. Black Ops 1 had limited mod tools, and all others after CoD4 don't have any mod support at all. Nice try though.

I don't get PC gamers who bring up mods all the time. Yeah, it's a great idea. Yeah, it's great in games that support it. But it's so rare for a game to support mods these days. It's a great idea on paper, but the actual utilization in the last 7 years has been pretty weak for the most part.

If we compared say a current top spec PC to the PS4, in terms of graphical output the PS4 will have the lead for another while. Give it two years and top spec Gaming rigs WILL outshine a PS4 without any doubt.

In terms of physical components then yes a current Gaming PC does have better specs i.e 6gb titan GFX and 16gb Ram etc...but we all know that the power is never optimised due to the high number of diff spec PC's. A good example of this is my Laptop has a higher specs than a Wii U yet struggles to play even games like San Andreas lol! :)

I have Killing Floor. I got it off a Steam sale a couple years ago. To be completely honest, the game is a piece of crap. Console gamers with half a brain know that pc's are far more powerful, I mean, I bought a new laptop recently, with 8gig of ram & such. I just got a medium range sucker, with specs that would allow me to easily edit HD video, mainly. But, I noticed 16gig units there, with probably far better gfx cards than mine & superior in every other area. But, I really only quickly glanced at the spec's & turned away at a speed that would herniate a disk in my neck, after seeing the price of these things.
But, the main thing I took away, was 16gig of ram. 16gig... That is double the already highly impressive 8gig.

Now, the thing is all you pc gamers, is that it will take time for developers to utilize all these high end, high tech specs. So, just because they've invented a 1200 horse powered engine, doesn't mean there is driver able to take advantage of the extra HP's, or a track with the attributes to accommodate such substantial power gains.
In other words. Most developers, haven't even invented game engines that can take FULL advantage of these high spec pc game rigs. They simply do not yet have the skillset, tools, or know how to get the most out of this hardware.
It simply takes time for developers to evolve & adapt to such huge power gains, & they can only go so far, before human limitations kick in & stop that huge progress, that pc gamers are under the illusion happen over night.

I don't consider myself a PC elitist because my self built PC packs only an i5 and GTX570. I like pretty graphic but I know my limits are. Yeah, there are high end PCs and there are regular PCs that not cut out to be gaming beasts. It's dividing the PC crowd apart as consoles gets more and more mainstream over the years. PC games don't enjoy the millions of sales except for the rare few.

But wait. It's easy to target the high PC gamers because they are not that many and their hard pretty expensive. But wait, lower end PCs are actually the main contributors to PC gaming. Tthere are millions of PC gamers in Asia. No, I'm referring to the pirates. I'm talking about MMO players playing with bargain PCs in cyber cafes and at homes. Yes, console games have millions of sales upon launch days. PC games/version of the same games don't so that makes PC gamers pretty easy to be attack with the usual argument by console gamers. But flip back the layers that make up PC gaming you can see millions playing all sorts of PC games every night. And when it come to inter platform arguments like this one...console fans and elitist PC gamers alike conveniently avoid bringing up those other, hidden PC gamers. 1. New console is announced and console fanboys hype about how "revolutionary" and "powerful" it will be and how PC gaming will left in the dust.

2. New console comes out and it within a years time, and newer hardware is comes out and current hardware becomes cheaper.

3. Newer technology will outperform the console and fanboys will readjust their position and say "HURR DURR consoles are more optimized than PC. Just look how pretty exclusive A looks."

PS4 won't meet the standards of even a mid-range pc. Will it be good bang for the buck? Sure. But, just a few years down the road, its lack of horsepower will be very, very apparent when compared to what is being done on pc.
What is doable on pc is always being improved and is always available to those who wish to partake. For console, well, as was shown this generation, you are simply stuck with what you have until the console manufacturers say otherwise.
That is why I decided to make the move to pc. I was not going to get stuck with outdated tech and hack-kneed versions of multiplats because the cost of console manufacture is so damn high and it takes companies years just to recoup costs of releasing a new console.

Will I be spending more to game? Sure, but you get what you pay for. I pay for better performance, mods, better graphical fidelity and the access to fairly priced games. At the end of the day, this is my hobby and I am willing to put the money to experience the best it has to offer. For me, that is a proper gaming rig and the purchase of the consoles down the road for cheap. Best of both worlds, but I am not going to even humor the argument of quality when talking PC vs console.

PS4 is closed system with much less OS foot print and developer could optimize the game code.

Ram doesn't make a system more powerful, it just facilitates the flow of that power. Anything more than necessary is wasted, too little and you either need to
a) have workarounds that use more cycles (i.e. reduce the overall power)
b) use a lower standard, like say smaller textures or what not

PC's has TWO memory types, DDR3 and GDDR5, soon to be DDR4 and GDDR6.

The GDDR5 in graphics cards will be of higher quality as well, i.e. faster GDDR5, since not all GDDR5 is the same speed or latency. Given that they are making millions of PS4's and considerably less in the newest graphics cards that use the fastest, what that means is that the GDDR5 used in the PS4 is on the low end in terms of speed.

PS4 has a massive OS that true isn't as complex as say Win 7, but it isn't that much less intensive. The OS will be running in the background, and all the social features, downloading, so on and so forth mean the OS is going to be hindering PS4 performance much like Windows hinders PC gaming. But overall neither hinders it very much.

8 WEAK cores of CPU that can't match a 4 core from Intel at stock speeds (let alone the 50 percent overclock that it can easily reach) from 2008. The 8 cores are a low power laptop variety of an inferior design compared to Intel's. So no, basically what the PS4 will have is something considerably slower than an i7 920 at stock speeds. Which was a midrange $279 CPU from 2008, which then could be overclocked.

The GPU from ATI is akin to a midrange 2011 GPU, where a midlevel GPU from 2013 will be 2.5-4x faster. The top end uber gaming rigs will be 8-9x as powerful.

Even downloading apps for Android devices (no experience with Apple devices) will require you to instal those apps in order to use them. Installing software/apps is practically something everyone does these days.

A couple of days to learn to put it all together? Not really, it's easier than putting together a single simple chair you buy from Walmart or whatever. Takes about 1-2 hours to put it together. Sure it'd out power most PCs if the guy only wanted to pay $400 bucks for his rig. You start going any higher, it'll definitely outpower it.

The GTX 660 smacks the gpu in the PS4 and its only $200 bucks. 25$ RAM, $50 case, $100 mother board, amd 8-core for $150 (much more powerful than the PS4s), PSU 500W for $30. $20 for good cooling compound. Don't made suppositions based on a similar PC architecture that ps4 have because this is ( completely wrong ) first because PC have a huge limitations about north bridge and south bridge chipsets in fact, the available ( raw ) amount of memory bandwidth ) is 5 gb/s higher than the PS4 ( with a cpu i7 4xxx and gtx690 titan ) but ... vram and system ram are not unified and system actually are normal DDR3 and vram are GDDR5. cpu and gpu don't have a integrated bus / die and the communications bus from and to cpu and from and to gpu drammatically reduces the available ( usable ) memory bandwidth from 191gb/s ( theoretical peak ) to about 92 - 100 ( maxiimum . and ... PC architecture loss another small portion of available/usable memory bandwidth for ( overhead ) operations , in fact, all losed bandwidth is for communication of various processors and device like ( cpu in/out , gpu in/out , memory write / read / in / out ). Cpu in a PC architecture are limited by the general purpose ( kernel ) generally a Windows NT kernel based . A conclusion would be: to achieve a 60fps rock solid @ 1080P Native resolution for shadowfall are necessary 4gb of rendering ram and circa 120GB/s system bandwidth ( on a dedicated architecture like console) a very great code optimization for texture compression/loading and very high "but very pricey" engine code optimization for vectorial calculations=Framedrops on specified areas.
