SimCity possibly one of the worst rated Amazon products in history

After a very sloppy launch, SimCity is on the road to becoming one of the worst rated products in Amazon’s online shopping database history.

Wow that is really stupid... the game is wonderful! Well if you can get into a server...

Speed-Racer4064d ago

I'm glad I waited. EA's history sucks wrt things like this. Surprised they haven't learned anything yet.

pompombrum4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

Yeah, basically the thing EA added to the game to ensure maximum profit has in actual fact had the exact opposite effect and probably cost them a lot more money than they realize. Irony personified.

rainslacker4063d ago

@ai

If it staves off future use of these DRM methods then I say it's good. It sucks it had to be in what was likely my most wanted title of all time(huge fan of the series), but there are times when the industry needs serious doses of medicine to bring it back into reality.

Sadly, after the whole Diablo III debacle didn't change much, this likely won't either. They'll get it sorted out, and things will return to normal, and as consumers we'll continue to be the lowest rung on the ladder.

DonteDemonSlayer4063d ago

It's quite funny to see it have a one of five stars, which I have never seen for any game before. Not because of the quality of the game, but because of the unbelievable single player DRM in which they can't even play the game they purchased. I believe the best part of it all is Amazon is no longer selling it, which is part of their firm belief of making customers happy, even at the cost of easy money. They will of course add it back once EA has stable servers, and can assure that there will be no more major problems.

aliengmr4063d ago

How is it stupid if someone has trouble playing the game?

Seems to me, a "wonderful" SP game is one that can be played at will and not dependent on EA pulling its head out of its ass.

SilentNegotiator4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

Any game that won't actually play half of the time is a bad game.

I'm pretty sure EA has space monkeys running their servers. Didn't they see this being a potential problem?!

mcroddi4064d ago

The launch has been a disaster.

RonyDean4064d ago

It really has been. Sucks...

brandonw004064d ago

It is too bad because I was able to play for a while last night and it is a great game. Too bad it is plagued by terrible servers.

Speed-Racer4064d ago

So sad. I'll give them some time to sort it out before I shell out some bucks.

ThreshStar4063d ago

This is an unmitigated disaster in every facet - developers, EA, Public Relations, advertising, revenue, possible future earnings...even friends of mine who have NO interest in video games know about this debacle.

You have to wonder: How in the #@&#!& did EA and Maxis not prepare for this? How does a multi-BILLION dollar organization not have SOME type of disaster plan in effect for this sort of problem?

If EA is capable of this, makes me wonder about Activision, UBIsoft, Rockstar, etc. Is this the potential future of gaming?

rainslacker4063d ago

Activision had it to a lesser extent with Diablo III.

Ubisoft has actually relaxed their DRM practices because according to them it just doesn't work, and only hurts the people that buy the games.

Rockstar...I kind of consider them the Valve of consoles...they make quality products, and tend to let their games speak for themselves over going all anti-consumer...quite frankly they are one of the few that do it right IMO.

Smaller devs will probably never go this route as they don't need to sell millions of copies because their budgets are smaller.

Nintendo doesn't really seem to care about this kind of stuff as their 1st party games sell well.

MS, can't really say, only have rumors to go off of.

Sony...again hard to say. I would hope not, they took a while just to get to online passes, and I'd imagine they're content with that...or at least I hope they are.

I think with this EA probably knew they'd have issues, as hell it was pretty common sense among gamers that this type of DRM always has problems on day one. I just don't think they expected it to be as big as it was. Maybe they were just too over-confident in their online infrastructure, or they thought the issues wouldn't become so pronounced that it would become a PR nightmare.

7 Times Games Forced Us Online (Against Our Will)

Some games force online-only measures onto people. It sucks! Especially when some titles, like these seven, 100% didn't need it.

Need for Speed as well. Here's to hope that the new one will be a return to form for the franchise.

Gaming1012434d ago

Dead Space was the worst ruining... micro transactions in a full price game, with co op that was mandatory to get all the story and access to certain areas. Sure Rock Band was oversaturated, and Burnout was basically killed off even though it sold a ton on PS3 back in the day.

indysurfn2434d ago

Wow kudos EA! no one can kill a franchisee like you can kill a franchises.

lptmg2434d ago

Sadly, Rock Band died because of Activision shoving one Guitar Hero every 3 months

showtimefolks2434d ago

PhoenixUp2434d ago

Dead Space, NBA Live, & Rock Band

indysurfn2434d ago (Edited 2434d ago )

I really liked Burnout and Need for speed and thought no one will able to destroy this game.....I was WRONG!
