Case Closed: Perfect Dark is Superior to GoldenEye 007

I liked Perfect Dark's ability to include bots and roll some co-op multiplayer. Couch multiplayer, man, so underused in today's games.

I agree. Me and my friends created a "zombie" scenario: Eight simulants, all FistSims (so they never used guns), us against them with basic weapons (pistol, magnum, knife, shotgun)... hours and hours of fun.

you may want to get it for the N64 though . .the H.D. version for x box 360 is a shame compared to the original one for N64 . . . and Perfect Dark is ANOTHER reason why no other game machine is better than the N64 . . sweet FACT #471

Perfect Dark requires the 8 MB RAM expansion to get the full feel of the game; for Goldeneye a memory card was optional.

I got the game for Christmas one year... the hitch was that I didn't get a Expansion pak with it. It took until my birthday (June 10th) before I got one. If you don't have the expansion park your stuck with only a gimped down version of the VR missions with nothing but one skin for everyone in the game... I beat every single one of those missions before I ever even got to touch the Story.

I agree Galactic, too many try to pass opinions off as facts; and just because a game has a soundtrack that's remixed more than another game personally doesn't really mean much to me - if anything it means a lot of people don't like the original score and would rather have something better.

I could easily write "Why Goldeneye is better than Perfect Dark" however I'd rather leave that to someone else who's bored.

Did you read the article? I thought he made his points really well. Perfect Dark offered similar gameplay with a whole lot more features. Sure, GoldenEye broke ground, but Perfect Dark took that effort to another level.

Of course Perfect Dark is the better game. Better graphics, bots, ability to customize multiplayer characters, multiplayer stats, numerous challenges, more abd arguably better guns, a more complete story (Goldeneye prettu much expected you to have seen the movie and then let you play the best scenes, while Perfect Dark had the whole story), etc. Add co-op and counter-op and you perrty much have one of the most complete package for a FPS game at the time (online multiplayer is missing, but there wasn't much if any online gaming on consoles back then).

I can see why people say Goldeneye is the better game, as it's usually nostalgia or simply the fact that they played Goldeneye more at the time. However, if you were to ask someone who hasn't played any of the games which one is better after a few days of playing each, Perfect Dark would likely win by a landslide.

I agree with this, Perfect Dark improved upon everything Goldeneye did plus some more.

They even added Goldeneye weapons and levels. Perfect Dark is in need and deserves a next gen sequel.

Perfect Dark is my favorite n64 game and when I found out about the hd version, I had to buy it. I still play it with bots. Me vs 3 hard sims, ridiculous fun

I still own both, Pdark had better Mp but SP I'd say that they are equal, I personally would choose Goldeneye.
And the HD remake of Pdark is very good Sp actually runs at 60fps and with modern controls it does make the game easier though.

Lol i actually liked both and can't say which one is better since i haven't played them in ages sadly, i remember i got scared when some dude popped out of a corner on Perfect Dark and killed me(i was young and i had no clue their was a guy gonna pop out)

Either way, both had fun bot/offline MP.

I enjoyed both, but I think I liked Perfect Dark a bit more. The fact that it was a totally new team at Rare that built Goldeneye was impressive, but the more talented team built Perfect Dark. Both great games, both classics and it's really difficult to pick one, but I'd have to go with Perfect Dark.

It's amusing how people whine about needing an Expansion Pack when Donkey Kong needed one, too. So did Majora's Mask, considered by some fans as the best, most mature Zelda game in the series.

People whine about Goldeneye's multiplayer being better, failing, usually, to mention the fact Perfect Dark has the best maps from Goldeneye. Sure, the fact you can't use GE guns in the N64 original's multiplayer is a shame, but it's hardly a deal breaker.

People whine about the framerate, ignoring that Goldeneye's framerate was all over the place despite lacking Perfect Dark's dynamic lighting and near-infinite draw distance. Not to mention fiddling with the options, such as letterboxing, and disabling the optional high resolution mode, can significantly boost framerates.

They whine about the single player, claiming the admittedly annoying Pelagic II represents the whole game. No mention is made of fog ridden mazes like Statue and Jungle from Goldeneye. They whine about the game having aliens in it, as if this was somehow a legit criticism.

They whine about the music. This is a ridiculously subjective accusation. But needly to say, Perfect Dark has very good music. Not to mention surround sound support.

Perfect Dark fans make reasonable arguments which compare GE and Perfect Dark on an artistic and technical basis. Goldeneye fans say GE was more fun, they hated Elvis, they hated the voice actors, they hated the lack of James Bond, they hated the multiplayer, and they hated the story.

I bought Perfect Dark a few months ago and have been waiting for a rainy day to play it. It's supposed to rain tonight. I'm looking forward to playing after reading this. Goldeneye will always have a soft spot in my heart from the multi-player college days, but I'm old now and mostly play single player.
