What happened to Counter-Strike Global Offensive in the EU, and do we still care?

It's been over 6 months since Counter-Strike:Global Offensive appeared on the Playstation 3. Yet in the EU, still no sign of the game. Which begs the question, do we still care?

Is Counter Strike: GO available on Steam in the EU? If so, your wait for the real game is long over.

I played the Demo on the 360 and not only was the game considerably slower, the community at least in the public matches was really awful at the game. What's the point of playing a gimped game with gameplay not suited for a controller? (I am aware of the M/KB support, but who has a set up to do that comfortably with a console?)

caseh4065d ago

You'd be surprised how efficient a joypad can be in FPS games. I used to have the same perception having played FPS games for over 6 years on M/KB.

Took me a long time but i'm very comfortable using a jpypad these days. If you check high level play in games like MGO (gotta get teh headshots!) and MAG you would be quite surprised.

As for CS:GO I honeslty couldn't give a toss. i did for like the frist few announcements of it being delayed, after that I just forgot about it.

Ravenor4065d ago

I am perfectly comfortable using a pad, but don't kid yourself. The difference between the faster paced titles on the PC makes the console look like they are running in slow motion.

Counter Strike, Quake, UT and really any game tuned to the PC are considerably faster. No matter how you slice it, a game with a faster pace is always better with a mouse and keyboard. Even CoD plays much faster on the PC, you don't have nearly as wide a window to strafe dance in the open like you do on the console.

I am NOT saying that the pad is a terrible, unusable input device, especially modern controllers like the PS3's or the 360's. All I'm saying is there is a huge difference in the speed and accuracy and that can turn an exciting game like CS, into a bore.

HarryMasonHerpderp4064d ago

What if you don't own a PC capable of running the game?

Ravenor4064d ago

It's source engine, rubbing two sticks together will get that thing to run.

Failing the stick part, there are plenty of PS3/360 games tuned for a controller that don't put you to sleep like GO on the console does.

hazelamy4065d ago

you know, i'd forgotten about that.

scee seem to have discovered an effective tactic for making people forget about stuff like this.

just absolutely refuse to even address the issue.
never reply to any comment, just stick their fingers in their ears and hum a tune.
eventually people give up asking because in the end, you'd have as much response from asking the wind why it blew your washing off the line.

it annoys me they get away with this shit time after time.

there's a hole somewhere in scee, where content goes, and nobody knows how to find it, occasionally it'll pop out months later but that's by no means guaranteed.

look at Auditorium, that took like two bloody years.
they gonna use the localisation excuse for that?
because that game was oh so full of text right? o_O

and the pink knight dlc for Castle Crashers, nine months, yeah, in the time we waited for one little character i could have created a human life.
just think on that, there were probably babies conceived, carried and born in the time we waited for the pink knight dlc.

they just say go and ask the publisher.

except when sony is the publisher, when they just ignore the questions.

and there are mistakes on the eu store, just about every bloody week.
wrong content, broken content and demos being sold as full games, just some of the regular fails made by scee.

thankfully though, whoever's in charge of the plus content in europe is on the ball, because that seems to be the one, single, sole area where they do excel.

LightofDarkness4065d ago

They really need to sort out SCEE. They're appalling.

I don't understand why they can't just release the NA localized versions of games in the UK and Ireland. WE SPEAK ENGLISH. ALL OF US. Let the rest of Europe wait for translations if they need them, but make the English versions available to us at least. A prime example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

HarryMasonHerpderp4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

It's not just the late game releases and lack of replies though, the store is a complete mess.

They use the wrong images for the wrong games

They hide away content and you literally have to go searching for it instead of it being linked to the "whats new page"

Some of the descriptions have spelling mistakes in them

Images that should be in HD are blatant screenshots off a computer screen

Prices get mixed up ALL the time

The worst thing is these problems happen EVERY week!
They have never been able to do a store update without problems it's like there's about 3 guys working there running around until 6pm and their shift is over.
The PS+ guys though deserve a promotion ;)

I bought a U.S. $50 PSN card from Playasia, they emailed me my code immediately, & I went onto my U.S. PSN account & logged onto the U.S. PSN store, I then entered my U.S. $50 PSN card code, & wallah, I had $50 available in my U.S. PSN account, I then bought CS:GO when it launched on U.S. Store.
Simple....If your country of origins Sony is screwing you around, then solve the problem & get what YOUR ENTITLED TO GET.

My crappy country, has only just decided to implement an R rating for games....MK on PS3/360 was refused classification, thus onto store shelves (I believe it has only just recently been resubmitted by the publishers for classification), but anyway, I have had the game since launch, as I bought it from Playasia. And, to get the dlc that obviously never came to our store, well, just follow the above instructions on how I got CS.

usedandreviewed4065d ago

It's a shame we have to go to those lengths to get hold of a game, that should have released many months ago.

Sizzon4065d ago

I already got it on Steam Sale some months ago :)

CS:GO ftw.

Rivitur4064d ago

I actually was under the impression it had came out by now after reading the Steam forums but after awhile I realized that the post was made 3 months ago stating "it will be out next week in Eu"

4 or 5 players in a game is not players frantically dusting it off

Jin_Sakai207d ago

We all know that videogamer.com went to each and every Xbox 360 owners house to watch them frantically dust off their 360s.

Vits207d ago

I mean it is a 1000% growth in the player-base. /s

mandf207d ago

Enough to write an article though. N4g new owners are insulting us for click revenue

Vits207d ago

@mandf

Nothing to do with new owners. N4G has always been the trashcan for game news and discussion.

northpaws207d ago

I love video games so much that I never have the time to replay the old one that I have finished, my backlog has only gotten bigger and bigger. I don't get how some people can play one game for years (except for mmorpg)

mandf207d ago

It's an exaggeration to the extreme. A way making an exclusive seen grander than it is.

Profchaos207d ago

Some people do I know someone who only ever plays dune 2000 which is rarely but still

RedDevils206d ago

Those Fifa or COD players do that every years.

Inverno207d ago

Wonder why they've never ported this game over to last Gen and now current Gen. This game would be pretty popular right now, I think.

Players Spent Over $100 Million On CS:GO Cases Last Month, A New Record

About 39.5 million loot boxes were opened throughout March 2023, right after Valve announced Counter-Strike 2. It goes without saying that gamers love gambling, especially those who play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

I have about 260 hours on csgo and have not spent a single penny on any of the microtransactions. You can still enjoy it since it's not pay to win.

‘Counter-Strike 2’ Release Date Nears As Devs Test Source 2

The rumours are heating up and it looks like Counter-Strike 2, the move onto the Source 2 engine for CS:GO, is coming very soon based on testing files found on Steam.

Number1TailzFan406d ago

S&box devs already have access to Source 2 and have done for a while.

DOTA 2 was Source 2 but hardly anyone noticed/cared because it wasn't one of the Valve games most wanted. L4D3 was scrapped because Source 2 wasn't ready and buggy.

Half Life Alyx has been the only official Source 2 game that people notice so far.. The engine still looks pretty good graphically, but it looked far more impressive back in 2014 when the leaked plantation level that was rebuilt on Source 2 (for L4D2) was shown. Too bad it took this long for Valve to do anything with the engine.. with all the money they have I have to wonder what happened. Even a smaller dev studio could've produced stuff within a couple of years.

Richhard1404d ago

Not sure why this hyped tbh, it’s only in updated engine. Same maps, same game. So long as it’s top of steam listings, it’ll be here for evermore.
