I expect UE4 to use the full potential of the PS4.
Also, I want to see diversity with the engines. Too much UE last gen, give me FOX Engine, Cryengine 3.5, Frostbite 2.5, Luminious Engine, and more

Godmars2904067d ago

I hope the damn thing works day-one. Is easier to work with. UE4 that is.

NewMonday4066d ago (Edited 4066d ago )

@DaThreats

most of all those are exclusive company wide only and not for licensing.

Cryengine is available for licensing but hardly anyone uses it for some reason.

talisker4066d ago (Edited 4066d ago )

@newmonday: the reason is the licence fee for Cryengine is something about $1M. Companies that can afford it have their own proprietary engines. Besides, Cryengine isn't really suitable for consoles, see how Crysis 3 performs (15 FPS is a joke).

I'm particularly eager to see Frostbite on next gens, same as proprietary Sony engines from SMS and ND. But I guess we have to wait with ND till E3. They won't reveal anything before TLOU releases. Ubisoft also has some really neat engines (Watch_Dogs and Assassin).

Godmars2904066d ago

Its comical that Crytek first came to general note for making a game which only really played on maxed out PCs, then pushed their engine for cross platforming use, only for it to best perform on high-end PCs.

adorie4067d ago

Give me all the engines!! *swims in code*

Blackhawk34067d ago

How about some Unreal Tournament with user mods like ps3? Sounds great to me!

user76939584067d ago

the Rai engine.. if deep down was true gameplay wow we got few amazing engines this gen.. this time..

cannon88004067d ago (Edited 4067d ago )

Panta Rhei Engine :D and yes it was running in real time. It's actually easy to tell.

silenius4067d ago (Edited 4067d ago )

who actually fears that the next gen Multi-platform titles (Im only referring to PS4 and X.720) They wont be able utilize PS4 Tech advantage in comparison to Xbox?
And that's because Microsoft's "rule" of not having an inferior port if not better?! <- don't even know if this pathetic rule is true...
I really hope this won't be the case :/

BitbyDeath4066d ago

No i think that was about something else cause MS had a few inferior ports, the worst i remember being FFXIII

KwietStorm_BLM4066d ago

I never heard anything about a rule against inferior ports. I only read about not accepting a game later than the PS3 version or without the same content, something like that.

konnerbllb4066d ago

There's no such rule by MS. The reason multiplatform games are better on the 360 is because it's easier to code for and port to. There aren't as many memory tricks to perform on the 360 because of it's ram size and architecture.

Spoon_4066d ago

WONDER if madden will actually give a real try at simulation football this go round

DeadlyFire4066d ago

Well last gen everyone relied on UE. This gen it looks like most major publishers have their own engine for many titles under their umbrella with UE 4 and CE 3.x to fill in any gaps.

Konami - Fox Engine
Square Enix - Luminious
Bethesda - id Tech 5.x
EA - Frostbite 2.x
Capcom - Panta Rhei

And likely some more out there. :P

plaZeHD4066d ago

All first party Sony In-House engines will run and look better than those engines you listed, on PlayStation 4.

ChickeyCantor4066d ago

in the end it wouldn't matter. It's the mechanics and artistic value that mask the engine. Developers just need to make great games.

hopefully the days of blocky, plastic looking character models are a thing of the past. One of the many reasons why i dislike the unreal engine.

Technically can't wait to see how it is

Kennytaur4066d ago

The UE4 demo has the same "shiny plastic" look to it.

You make a great argument and I totally agree!! I'm sure this gen we will see those things you suggest

This will be great for 3rd party devs to use, i rather see sony 1st party studio create an engine between sony santa monica & naughty dog & gg & just share that engine with all their 1st party studios.

ziggurcat4067d ago

given the PS4's architecture, i expect the unreal engine to perform *much* better than it did on the PS3. i tended to avoid getting the PS3 version of games that used the unreal engine unless it was one of those 2-3 X360 discs vs. 1 PS3 disc situations.

Minato-Namikaze4067d ago

Weird thing was when Epic made unreal tournament 2008 for ps3 it ran real smoothly. UE3 could have run really well on ps3 but i guess most devs couldn't get their heads around the ps3.

Fallout 4 is now available on next-gen consoles, but PS Plus users might be left disappointed

Probably won't happen for PS+ since Sony makes a clear distinction between a PS4 game and a PS5 game, unlike PC and Xbox where it is not a specific device game (It's now always an Xbox game).

So to make the PS5 game of fallout 4 available. Bethesda would need to renegotiate the complete deal with Sony.
hence why there's often only the PS4 version of the game available on PS+.

Let's hope Bethesda and Sony can arrive to term quickly.

I think a hard copy should be relatively cheap at this point.

REVIEW: Sand Land faithfully adapts to game form a lesser known Akira Toriyama creation | Showmetech

From Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, Sand Land is a fun adaptation of the manga and anime in videogame form. For all of its simplicity and repetition, it's a beautiful interpretation of the source material.
