Could the next God of War please lay off the platforming?

PSU.com writes:

"Let’s make it clear before I begin: I’m a fan of the God Of War series. I’ve just completed God Of War: Ascension--loved it, in fact--but I made it clear in my review that the platforming sections don’t always hit the mark in this latest iteration."

TimNunes4061d ago

I've always been a fan of the platforming in these games, but it can easily become too much. Since this game seems longer than most of the others, it's unfortunate that there's not as much to the tried and true formula that is God of War. #StillGoingToLoveThisGame

classic2004061d ago

Well there might not be another next god of war, santa monica is working on new IP for next gen.

To be fair i think this one was just for a little back story and money lol. The series to me ended with 3.

saladthieves4061d ago

Couldn't agree more!

"Could the next God of War please lay off the platforming?"

That's like saying "Could the next Uncharted please lay off the gun-shooting?"

morganfell4061d ago

And this ladies and gentlement is everything that is wrong with game journalism today. The author reviewed the game...for themselves. Therein lies the rub.

If you are going to promote your writing and PSU as a site for the gaming public then for the sake of common sense and an end to pure crap writing:

STOP REVIEWING THE DAMN GAME FOR YOURSELF. OTHERWISE PASSWORD THE ENTIRE DAMN SITE AND DON'T LET ANYONE ON IT. YOU CAN WRITE FOR YOURSELF, ABOUT YOURSELF UNTIL YOU HAVE A NARCISITIC HEART ATTACK.

Reviews these days have become an collection of adolescent temper tantrums or else teenage love affairs. They review a game and score it solely based on their likes and dislikes. That, for the young and uniformed, is not how a game is reviewed nor was it always the standard. Once upon a time magazines wrote reviews FOR THE AUDIENCE THAT READ THEIR MAGAZINE. THEY CONSIDERED WHAT THE AUDIENCE LIKED AND EXPECTED.

Face it Steven Williamson, you are not an interesting person. Your life isn't interesting and frankly your opinions on God of War are not interesting. I don't want to sound like I am throwing rocks. Doubtless most people would consider me in a similar fashion. I am fine with that. But since you are not interesting, try being objective for once and take yourself out of your articles.

YOU DO NOT MATTER, THE GAME DOES.

If you want people to read your reviews then for the love of a C++ try writing your reviews for the target demographic likely to buy the game. While you are at it try to use a modicum of intelligent deduction and consider what hardcore GoW fans might think about the title. I know that seems like work but insight and objectivity > useless drivel derived from your own wants and desires. If you can't do this then pick a different site and call it The World of Steve and post to your hearts content.

they are milking this franchise. make some new game for a change like naughty dog is doing.

ziggurcat4061d ago

the last god of war was nearly 3 years ago.

that's hardly milking.

troll fail is fail.

doctorstrange4061d ago

Sony Santa Monica are working on a new IP

PowerPlayaaa4061d ago

Milking ?????
they made 2 GOW games for the PS3, and the PS3 has been out for about 7 years. That for me aint milking,
COD, Assassins Creed, now thats milking.

Kinger89384061d ago

There has been 1 god of war on the ps3

How is that milked?

Adva4061d ago (Edited 4061d ago )

2 God Of War on PS2: GOW 1&2
2 God Of War on PSP: Chains & Ghost
2 God Of War on PS3: GOW 3 & A

Two on each platform where as there are dozens of Halo and Marios on 360 and Wii, respectively.

However, a continuation of GOW with a new character on PS4 would be a good idea.

Psu has 5. Count them 5 negative articles and 1 review on gow pending right. How much is overkill when each article is short. This is hit trolling and this sight needs to clean up its act. Negative articles are boring and played out.

Revolver_X_4061d ago

Seeing as how Gow is in the platforming genre, laying off platforming would make it a brawler. HnS and platforming usually go hand in hand. Fail article.

zlpw0ker4061d ago

WHAT?
gow isnt in the platforming genre, portal is in the platforming genre, just because it has platforming doesnt its in that genre,I totally agree they should lay of platforming in gow,I friggin hate it,I wanna fight nonstop in hack n slash games, not doing stupid QTE or platforming or puzzlesolving, all H&s games got some platforming, but not as much as in gow and I hate that, thats one of the reason why I dont like gow that much.

I never had any problem with the platforming in GoW, it helps break up the combat and helps to stop it from getting tedious.

SatanSki4061d ago

I absolutely hate platforming in any game for like 20 years. It was fun when games didnt have much more to offer but now it only irritates me. GOW should be about fighting and epic fights.

God Of War Tried Multiplayer Too Early

God of War's forgotten multiplayer mode was introduced nearly a decade ago, but it may have been a great addition if it was implemented now.

Ruined Ascensions story mode. Taking away the one button parry sucked.

abstractel511d ago

Not saying it was perfect but I really enjoyed it. One of the more unique MP experiences. Wouldn't mind them trying again.

Palitera511d ago

It was nuts that they actually managed to make that experience work so well.
The story might have been the weakest (story-wise) in the main series, but the MP was super fun and well done.

I don’t play god of war for the multiplayer so it’s always too soon in my book.

Ranking the God of War Games

Kratos has been on a rampage, killing Gods in epic battles since 2005. With each release managing to offer high-octane action, I explore each God of War title and rank every adventure from his journey to Olympus to his Norse tales of fatherhood.

I won’t rank Ragnarok just yet, although it is honestly leaving me and my wife blown away…won’t go into details right now, not done as I assume others aren’t either, maybe some of you are, idk haha.

But here’s how I rank them

5. God of War 3
4. God of War Ascension.
3. God of War 1.
2. God of War 2.
1. God of War 2018.

MrNinosan522d ago

My same ranking exactly, with Ragnarök at #1.

ClayRules2012522d ago

Wow, that’s pretty interesting that someone has the same ranking as me haha. So, did you beat Ragnarok? I assume so with you placing it at #1

Flawlessmic522d ago

1. God of war 3
2. God of war 2018
3. God of war 2
4. God of war 1

Haven't played the others but about 30 hrs In to ragnarock now so safe to say if it keeps up it will end up being at the top of my list when I'm done.

CrimsonWing69522d ago

I will say the pacing of the original titles and the epic feel to them I feel is way better than the new one’s. Like, I could recognize and appreciate the praise God of War received, but it bores me to tears except for the pivotal moments.

However, that being said I feel Ragnarok is waaaaay better than 2018. I’m only on Ch. 6, but it’s pretty much rocked my face off from the get-go.

I’m really split between this being my GotY or Elden Ring.

robtion522d ago

I think different games in the series had different strengths but all are great. I liked the original as it was an origin story and the mechanics were fresh. The sequel added smoother gameplay. Three was just so far ahead of it's time graphically it wasn't even funny. Plus great gameplay and bosses and insane gore and nice use of sexy time. The reboot was cool but lost a lot of what I liked about the original trilogy (I don't need my games grown up, just fun). Will wait and see with ragnarok as haven't had time to play it yet.

Every God of War Game Ranked From Worst To Best

BLG writes: "God of War has evolved significantly since the first game launched in 2005. Each subsequent entry has brought something new to the series, be it new power sets, fighting styles, and in the case of the 2018 reboot, a whole new combat system. Therefore, a major component in ranking every God of War game is that game’s impact on the franchise."

2 is my all time favorite with Ascension being my least (but still worth playing). First time dealing with the colossus of rhodes as well as the scale of the steeds of time... just a great game overall.

Nacho_Z798d ago

3 is the best for me, closely followed by the reboot. The reboot lost some of the spectacular scenes in favour of deeper gameplay, 3 was jaw dropping at times. I'm hoping the next game will have the best of both.

Army_of_Darkness797d ago

Yeah 3 was my favorite as well! The Poseidon battle was amazing! Gameplay wise and graphically!

neutralgamer1992798d ago

Honestly first 2 were amazing. I really wanted Sony yo bring back David jaffe and have him do his own version of God of war reboot working in different mythology. David and Cory could make sure story made sense but I think God of war is a big enough series where multiple entries at the same time

nevin1798d ago

1. GOW 3
1. GOW 2
2. GOW: Ghost of Sparta
3. GOW 1
4. GOW: Chains of Olympus
5. GOW(2018)
6. GOW: Ascension

generic-user-name797d ago

GOW 2018 2nd from the bottom? Behind 1? Behind the 2 PSP games?

Your street cred is taking a hit today.

Muigi797d ago

1. Gow 2018
2. Gow 3
3. Gow 2
