God of War has always been stellar, it's just perfect every time. Whether you think the game needs to change more or less with each iteration is irrelevant - it's always a damn good game no matter what anyone says.

A perfect 40/40 score. But that's maybe because they are Japanese and they have a different culture and therefore enjoy some games better or worse than we do. I don't have a problem with that.

I just don't get how DmC scored anywhere close to a 9 when this God of War is a 9. GOW (by the demo alone) was, and still is, MILES better than that crap.

well,its because in DmC you can chain combos together and be atleast a little creative,but on gow its buttonmashing deluxe and the combat is piss easy on gow.

I also died more times in DmC in gow:a,in fact I didnt die in the demo at all,thats how easy gow is on default,people want challenge in H&S games,even tho DmC is way more easy then any DMC games.
atleast DmC has more challenge then gow and thats actually saying something.

For whatever reason I'm not hyped...at all about this game.

I haven't bothered to look at the single player gameplay, but the online doesn't do anything for me. Just like the Uncharted series and how they added online.

For me, it's all about the single player, but this online focus is just taking me away from the game in general.

well the single player demo is spectacular, so I expect the game to be even more awesome!

It is looking to be better than GOW3 in every aspect, and that is not an easy thing to do.

I loved the multiplayer in UC2 particularly. I couldn't begin to guess at how much time I spent playing that with my friends. Rocket launcher-only matches were ridiculous. And that's before you get into the co-op arena stuff, which is lots of fun. UC3 is also fun online- about to play it now; thanks for reminding me- though I think I prefer its predecessor.

As for GOW, I dunno what I'm gonna do there. Something... I suppose.

Uncharted 2 had brilliant online gameplay but i always had issues trying to connect so didn't play it often.

Uncharted 3 i didn't enjoy as much. Seemed to be a bit more generic (IMO), did connect easier though

Online is not the main or only focus in Ascension or Uncharted 2/3.

So if you "haven't bothered to look at the single player" let alone play it, how can you jump to conclusions?

If you only care about the single-player, a mode outside of the main story shouldn't affect your gameplay experience.

I've played the demo twice! TWICE! That's a big deal for me. Though I've always been a GoW fan, I was never one to go gaga over a demo; not even for games that I'm a fan of.

Anyway, I wish I had the money to buy the CE or DE or whatever extra edition there is. Luckily, I care mostly about the game on the disc! Woohoo!!!

God Of War may need a refreshing type change next gen.....maybe.....But I still love these damn games & they are THE BEST hack'n'slash/adventure game since, well.....ever actually...Best story, best action & set pieces, best controls, best characters (especially Kratos, who goes totally against the good looking stereotypes usually associated with games), just all round best production of this genre of game that has ever existed. Heavenly Sword was a good diversion/distraction, but it was nowhere near Kratos & his vehicle. Ninja Gaiden is great, but comon, nowhere near the gem GOW is, & even the 1st DMC can't hold a candle to this game (although I do believe that GOW is influenced in many ways by DMC....oh, & the new DmC is fricken awesome). But, fact remains, GOW is "THE MAN" in this genre. Even the cashed up EA couldn't pull off Dante's Inferno with attempted copy & paste gameplay.

Get over the corrupt website crap abzdine, they are a Japanese based website & mag (if it still exists), so compared to most Westerners, there gaming tastes are on a totally different wavelength, & anyhow, it seems they have great gaming tastes, as they have scored both GOW & Crysis 3 highly, & anyone who owns Crysis 3 & has played the Ascension demo, knows that both games are wicked.

I am yet to be let down by the greatness, spectacle, visual wow-ness of a GOW game, & I really don't think this will be the 1st. I mean, I even have the 2 PSP games on PS3 that were just given the body HD makeover, & they are still damn impressive for what they are, & how little work they've had done.

first off gow is not the best h&s game ever.
gow does have a good story,but I cant really care if a hack n slash game has good or bad story,I dont play h&s for story,I play these games for the gameplay.
NOW,I got 41 hack n slash games I know what games are good and bad.

I have no idee what you mean by set pieces.
as a h&s gamer I could care less for the character,but in DMC Dante has alot of funny 1 liners and bayonetta which doesnt take herself seriously and that is just that more hilarous.

the controls are good,im agreeing you on that,but its not any creative controllers,what I mean by that is not any air combos almost,okay you can launch an enemy up in the air and do a few hits,but before that the enemys is dead and you cant pull anyone up from ground in gow.

now that leads me to combat area and why gow isnt good.
the gameplay is way to easy,it takes maybee 2-3 hits on enemy and then its dead,its when you can chain together combos or like 5 on one enemy without dying,thats good gameplay,like 2-3 different combos,not only square square triangle or opposite like in gow.
take bayonetta for example,1 enemy is hard there and you can chain like 10 different combos and the enemy is still not dead.
my point is that gow has noob friendly gameplay,it lets the gamer feel good about her/himself because its looks really flashy and because its gory.

as a hack n slash player I play games so I can chain together combos from different weapons and experiment with em,you cant do that with gow.

DmC is a good hack n slash,it lets you keep enemys up in the air and use other weapons and such,but when you know all the combos and such its pretty shallow experience,fun tho.

okay,now if you want to know what combo combat is you can go to youtube and type dmc4 truestyle tournement with dante and you can see what I mean,DMC4 is THE game when it comes to combat on my opinion,im a noob in dmc4 but those videos showes how insane the gameplay is and how fast you have to react to button input.

So, that said, until these games start declining in quality is noticeable amounts, or the awesomely fun gameplay starts losing it's edge & getting stale, I really see no reason to change anything. Just look at the recent news of Dead Space 3's cancellation for evidence of what happens when you try changing a formula that is already a great success.....kaboom, nobody buys your games no more, as you have taken out the heart & soul of the game. That's why the new DmC is so great, as it keeps the spirit of the game intact, yet, makes the game fresher & more appealing to old & new audiences (even though some clowns are going gaga over the hair color change & his less over all Elton John attire). This is how fickle some fanboy gamers are, you change things as irrelevant as hair color, or clothing, & they scream, call blue murder & refuse to even play a potentially great game (in DmC's case, it is a great game). So, change up "bigger" things, like gameplay, story, & other such features that are more detrimental to a game series & you could end up in EA's shoes with future games of that IP cancelled....
Take 1 of my ALL time fave game series, Resident Evil 1 & 2, 2 is one of the greatest games EVER in my eyes.....so what do Capcom do, they change it up with RE4, which gets overhyped, accolades, which it doesn't deserve at all, as a Resident Evil game, I don't know what game it is, BUT IT IS NOT A RE game in any sense, apart from the fact they use Umbrella's name with some new g@y a$$ virus, that turns a town of peeps into red eyed, redneck, members of a cult. Ridiculous story, ridiculous everything. So, then they make RE5, RE:OPC & RE6, all of which are abominations as opposed to RE2, hell even compared with that RE that came out in Dreamcast's heyday, & then eventually on PS2 (which the name eludes my usually good memory).
So, GOW should never really change in ANY drastic ways that will perplex & alienate long term fans, like myself. All I need, really, is new awesome story developments, & that trademark, kick a$$ & take names gameplay, graphically improvements (& HUGE visual upgrades with PS4 & PS5 obviously).

I think this is the last we will see of the stereotypical "God of War" game...that is, I think for their next installment, they''ll be wise to change things up a bit.

Next-gen is going to offer up ALOT of surprises. With the bar raised on what systems are capable of, I am willing to be next-gen games will evolve into something we've never seen before. Namely, art styles will change (since realism in graphics have nearly peaked) and gameplay is going to draw from the popular/well-reviewed social and portable/tablet games we've seen recently.

Next-gen is definitely looking good.

um.. played GOW1.. thought it was ok, but way too many worn-out-riddles and stuff. played gow2 and thought that the leveldesigner did a good job but where were the coders?? very cheap, very uninspiring, very unnecessary. the gameplay: 1:1 the same old.
gow3 i never bothered to touch. and i am shocked how undemanding modern gamers are. ascension will be exactly the same with an added dreck of multiplayer. eh,... mkay.. people want to be bored to death as it seems when i read the remarks about the gow-boredom..
