Sony PS4 Game Price Fears for UK

Are you excited about the upcoming PS4 yet? Sony hasn’t committed to an official release date yet, but they have said at least that the PS4 will be arriving during the 2013 Holiday period in the US. Another crucial piece of information that we haven’t heard about yet is pricing, but retailers in the UK are already starting to have their say on individual game prices.

They're not going to be £70, that's just silly.

Godchild10204061d ago (Edited 4061d ago )

If they are priced at 70 dollars in the US, you will see a lot of people waiting for a price drop to purchase games and less people buying at release. I would forget about buying my games digital as well.

That would mean Nintendo's home console again will have the lower priced games this coming generation when all next gen systems are released.

HarryMasonHerpderp4061d ago

Well $70 would be £45 so it could happen since that's only £5 more than we have to spend for a brand new game in the UK.
If the games were priced as £70 though it would be roughly $100 for a game in the US and I don't see anyone spending that much on a standard videogame.

Nimblest-Assassin4061d ago

Jack Tretton flat out said games will be from 99c to 59.99

Why are all retailers putting the price at 100 dollars?

I wanted to pre order watch dogs, infamous and AC4 for PS4... but everyones price is 99 bucks

Its ridiculous

shoddy4061d ago

I already pay $69 for games in Canada due to tax.

That's bad enough.

supersonicjerry4061d ago

I already wait for price drops most of the time as it is now. I buy maybe 2-4 games day one in a whole year 60 for game is just to much and especially when most of the games this gen where mainly fps.

RememberThe3574060d ago (Edited 4060d ago )

Lets be clear, Tretton didn't state games will cost $.99-$60. He used those prices to explain the kinds of games that would be available for PS4. He never said "games will be 99 cents to 60 dollars."

But like Godchild said if they charge $70 they're not going to get the first day/week/month sales they've been seeing. Hopefully they know that.

ajax174060d ago (Edited 4060d ago )

I'm not going to pay anything over $50 next gen. I can wait for the prices to drop.

yeahokchief4060d ago (Edited 4060d ago )

I don't see what you're all so worried about.

Games currently cost $60 plus tax and i'm getting them ON RELEASE DAY FOR EFFECTIVELY $33 via store credit, credit card cash back and deals the store had on buying gift cards at a discount earlier in the year.

THIS IS CHEAPER THAN WHEN I BOUGHT PS2 GAMES FOR $50 BACK WHEN I WORKED PART TIME IN HIGHSCHOOL 10 years ago.

Looking at the math... If we have a 2.5% rate of inflation and games were $50 in 2003 then games should have been $60 starting in 2011 and they should be $65 by this year not including tax, but the problem is that a lot of peoples' wages have not gone up whereas CEOs are now making 100s of millions per year. THe highest paid CEO in Chicago makes more in 1 hour than an average worker makes in 1 year. No exaggeration.

Games have never been as cheap as they are now because of the competition Amazon has brought to the brick and mortar retailers.

If you shop around you'll still get good if not better deals than what games cost in the past. You only get screwed if you:

1. Don't shop around or dealhunt in advance (thank you cheapassgamer.com)

2. Don't preorder

3. Don't wait for pricecut if you skip release day

4. Don't wait for Blackfriday Madness for whatever you didn't have time for earlier. I still haven't finished last year's BF backlog...

I don't mind $65 games on release if that means they'll rip us off less on the DLC. Profits on DLC must be crazy. It's all digital so there's no need to pay people to handle anything. They should ease up on the DLC prices if anything. Enough with the $15 PSN games before they go on sale.... That's where the prices are steep right now.

MuleKick4060d ago

$70 for a PS4 game vs $60 for a PS3 game seems to be fair to me. I don't see why everyone's up in arms about $10.

A trusty online retailer with pre-order prices. These look realistic, http://www.shopto.net/ps4

Hope this helps.

Psn8004060d ago

I won't pay £70 a game I really can't afford it .

Calm Down Sunshine4060d ago

They're already £59.99 on the playstation store... (Crysis 3 as an example) Which is ridiculous.

So I can see them pushing to £69.99 for PS4 games sadly. Which is even more disgraceful.

smashcrashbash4061d ago

They can't make prices since they don't know what they are yet. So how can they be worried?

BitbyDeath4061d ago

Didn't Sony already say that games will be at max $60US?
Why continue a dead rumour?

smashcrashbash4061d ago

Because they have to keep it going or they will have nothing to talk about. Sony said games will be $60.00 and they won't block used games etc. But they still have to milk the rumor for all it's worth and pretend that that it is still in play. That is mostly why people keep talking about invisible consoles and how there is no PS4 and all that crap. They were so eager for the rumors to be true that they are still in denial that they aren't

Lucreto4061d ago

Its way too early. These are place holders until actal prices are given. They are just following the $10 increase from generation to generation.

sourav934061d ago

from £40 to £70 is not a "$10" increase. It's a $40 increase. Anyways, the price isn't going to be that high. Someone from that retailer probably heard about EA CFO's comments about $69.99 next gen games, as was too stupid to understand that he said "dollars" and not "Pounds".

bryam19824061d ago

How much is the minimum wage in the UK?

JBernardo4061d ago

Don't know about the UK, but in Portugal it's about 400€, and yet, a new PS3 game costs 70€... Anything more than that would be disasterous! I already buy my games from Amazon UK for GBP35 @ launch.

sourav934061d ago

@bryam1982 The minimum wage in the UK at this moment for adults aged 21 and up is £6.19/hour.

But the minimum wage shouldn't come into this. For the current gen, games which cost $60 in the US cost £40 here. So inflation and earning power has already been adjusted. So when there in an increase in one place, the 'factor' of increase in the second place should be identical.

Skate-AK4061d ago

Means nothing. Amazon has AC4 for $99 PS4 copy.

kudakadere4061d ago

errrr you are aware that £70 is USD $105 ..right .

rainslacker4060d ago

The point is that they are placeholder prices, and AC4 is priced at 99.99 for the PS4 on amazon.

They had Wii U titles at 99.99 when they were first announced as well. It's common practice so they don't under price the product, because they always honor the lowest price.

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM94d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck94d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati94d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos94d ago (Edited 94d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88126d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183125d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie124d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.
