Cheat Code Central's Shelby Reiches writes: "Your computer (or console) is probably a better gamer than you are. Ideally speaking, it can do millions, if not billions, of calculations in the time it takes you to do a single one and, when both you and computer are given a set of rules and the ability to manipulate variables within them, doubtless the computer will be able to consider your possible moves far more rapidly and accurately than your fleshy brain can ever hope to. It also has the advantage of knowing what you’ve pressed immediately, and what the result of that input will be."

This is a fun game and it will be interesting to experience it in V.R. Play through a brand new story as you fight to gain a foothold in the perilous Overlands, battling the elements and the many colossal creatures that reside in the forest.

People complain about AI in some games, while giving a pass to others. Lately the AI in Aliens: Colonial Marines has been much maligned, but I'm playing the Mass Effect trilogy and am amazed at how terrible the AI is. So far I have to say I think ME is pretty overrated in most ways. Going by ME and Dragon Age: Orgins, I'd say Bioware is a very overrated developer in general. I was more impressed with Alpha Protocol that I am with ME, so far anyway.
Interesting article. Although, I disagree with his point about AI becoming obsolete in the near future due to the amount of people who would rather play against real players as opposed to a crafted intelligence. Next generation with the upcoming PS4 and the next Xbox will open up new doors for AI programming; there will be much more processing power to be used, and a more powerful AI can be designed. Not just difficult-to-defeat AI, but actually smart AI. Forming strike patterns, distractions, ambushes, learning the player's tactics, weaknesses, etc. That's what I expect in the next generation, at least; assuming developers don't get any lazier and keep rehashing the same dumb AI that's been around for over ten years. AI programming in video games has plenty of room to evolve. I'm think I speak for everyone when I say a truly smart and formidable AI would be welcome.
