PS4 May Bring Back PS Vita

The Playstation 4, to be released sometime this holiday season, may breath new life into the Playstation Vita.

Killzoner994063d ago

The Vita is doing fine now. Trust me it ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

Dragos754063d ago

Actually it's not. Never has been.

Mustang300C20124063d ago

Actually it isn't but I guess people are still in denial. Been saying this since before it launched and yet cod and Assassin has come and gone and now the "PS4 will save Vita"

"The image won’t mean much until we get official sales data next week – we don’t know how much stock the retailer had in the first place, after all – but it at least shows that the handheld is finally starting to move units in its home region. Let’s hope that the price cut prompts a mini resurgence for the system over the coming months."

LMFAO that is your proof that the VITA is doing well? Not a single sales number, unknown how much stock retailers had AND this is ONLY Japan.

yeahokchief4063d ago

In Japan they just announced a price drop with a TON of japanese rpg games.

It will do very well in Japan.

You're not noticing it picking up in the states yet because we haven't gotten a price drop. A lot of people picked it up over black friday when it was $170 because that deal sold out. There is demand for it, but not at the $250 price point yet.

Wait for Soul Sacrifice and Killzone game at least to complain.

I personally don't really want one. I kinda do, but im cheap and i don't need a handheld.

Just hope they don't release a new version of it with L2/R2 since it will allow ps4 games if you buy one...

The vita is not doing well at this point.

Sales projection has been slashed http://www.gamespot.com/new...

As I recalled, it only sold like 160,000 units during the all important Black Friday in the US last year, which is just not good at all.

Let's face it, the smartphones and the iPads of the world are really a factor here.

And why will the PS4 help the revived the VITA? The system will most likely be $400-$500 at launch and the near future, I don't think gamers are willing to throw in another $200 just so they can get remote play.

Dragos754062d ago

"I don't think gamers are willing to throw in another $200 just so they can get remote play."

That is my view of the whole thing too. Sony is really stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. They are already taking loses on vita itself and they sure are to take loses on PS4 at launch. It's really a weird situation when a console has to give a portable a boost, but i guess we will see how this turns out.

Sanquine904063d ago

No, the price drop in japan has done it's job. Already a retailer has said it almost sold out of vita's. Damn sony lower it in NA and Europe. We all have seen the black friday 200$ vita being sold like hotcakes:D

Give EU and NA @ Vita/8GB Memory/ AC liberation or Persona 4 the golden for 200 $ euro

LOGICWINS4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

"Give EU and NA @ Vita/8GB Memory/ AC liberation or Persona 4 the golden for 200 $ euro"

I don't think Sony's smart enough to do that.

@OpenGL- Thats just a stupid little feature with the intention of taking a dig at the Wii U. It has very little practical use. I'm very interested in Gaikai though. That opens up many possibilities for the Vita.

@Cupid_Viper_3- Nope. Sony isn't smart enough to bundle Persona 4 with the Vita. I wasn't referring to a cheaper price. You jumped to conclusions. Nothing you wrote has anything to do with my point.

Cupid_Viper_34063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

@Logic
"I don't think Sony's smart enough to do that."

So you think that a company who's been in business for longer than you've been alive, doesn't know that a cheaper product will sell more?

It's never a simple matter of dropping the price and selling more units. When a manufacture makes a product, especially a console, they've already have a set budget, and a set number for the loss that they're willing to absorb to keep things balanced. Lowering the Vita's price and selling more units would only look good in you and the media's eyes. But Sony would be taking HUGE losses and that would force them to make cuts elsewhere, meaning rushed games, and cancellations left and right.

I mean cmon, think things through for a second before you type.

Edit: "Nope. Sony isn't smart enough to bundle Persona 4 with the Vita. I wasn't referring to a cheaper price. You jumped to conclusions. Nothing you wrote has anything to do with my point."

So bundling Persona 4 with the Vita + a memory card and selling it for $200.00 would not be a price cut? How in thew world did you come up with your name?

Sanquine904063d ago

Aaahw if they did that (A) I would buy my third vita ( Why 2 vita's you say? Why not zoidberg? Kidding, i have 2 vita's for 2 accounts Japanese and EU account,

"I don't think Sony's smart enough to do that."

Wow, just wow.

LOGICWINS4063d ago

@Cupid- I made a general statement:

"I don't think Sony's smart enough to do that"

I was referring to Persona 4 being bundled with the Vita, not the 8GB card/price cut. You assumed I was referring to all three facets of the bundle(P4: The Golden, 8GB, price cut), when I was only talking about one(P4: The Golden. You jumped the gun.

I think the Vita will need it's own original software to succeed. Remote play with the PS4 will be an added bonus but I can't imagine paying $200-250 for a handheld just to play my PS4 games on a lower resolution display around the house.

Cupid_Viper_34063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

You think it needs its own original software like:

Soul Sacrifice
Spy Hunter
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Gravity Rush
Little Big Planet Vita
AC III: Liberation
Hot Shot Golf
Smart As
Unit 13
Black Ops Declassified
Resistance: Burning Skies
Ragnarok Odyssey
Silent Hill: Book of Memories
MotorStorm RC
Mortal Kombat
Street Fighter X Tekken
Fifa 13
Persona 4 Golden

Games like that? yeah, it definitely needs them, and that's exactly why you can walk into any store and pick them up.

Here's a list with almost 100 more games as well, http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

OpenGL4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

Most of those games are inferior versions of titles already available on the PS3 aside from Gravity Rush. The Vita doesn't need miniature PS3 games from no-name developers, it needs its own software that cannot be found anywhere else. Maybe if Sony's best studios were actually working on Vita games (most of them aren't) those titles would mean something.

A lot of people are of the opinion that handheld games should be easy to pick up and play quickly for convenience, not miniature console games.

Also the fact that you're listing games that averaged 33 on metacritic in your library of "must have games" shows the Vita is struggling
http://www.metacritic.com/g...

LOGICWINS4063d ago

The fact that you believe that Mortal Kombat, Spyhunter, Fifa 13, and Street Fighter X Tekken is original Vita software puts everything you say into question. Not to mention that more than 75% of the games you listed are pre-existing IPs.

Cupid_Viper_34063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

I think we can stop debating as it seems that things have already taken a "non-sense" turn.

For example: "Most of those games are inferior versions of titles already available on the PS3 aside from Gravity Rush."

Yet I listed 18 games, and 11 of them can ONLY be found on the Vita.

So thanks for the debate, but it's best we stop stop here.

Edit: and as for you "Logic". Clearly everyone who plays games would know that Fifa and Street Fighter aren't exclusive to any consoles. But they're are clearly some of the most popular games that people would want on a handheld. meaning that the Vita so far has presented something for everyone, from Shooters, to sports, to RPGs.

75% of the games are existing IPs....So? It's new handheld on the Market, what did you think was going to sell it? Franchises that people have never heard of?

sway_z4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

Vita is doing okay...only 1 year old, and according to some it's doomed.

Besides the awesome titles coming to vita this year, the PS4 will extend its use to the point where some may purchase Vita just to remote play PS4 games from the comfort of their bed.
