VGLeaks: Durango CPU Overview

The Durango CPU brings a host of modern micro-architectural performance features to console development. With Durango, a familiar instruction set architecture and high performance silicon mean developers can focus effort on content and features, not micro-optimization. The trend towards more parallel power continues in this hardware; so, an effective strategy for multi-core computing is more important than ever.

TheLyonKing4074d ago

Really not sure about it, plus it seems like extra cost for not to much extra power.

But thats my thoughts on it

DoesUs4074d ago

It's basically a stock Jaguar, much like the PS4 variant.

BABYLEG4074d ago (Edited 4074d ago )

500$ Microsoft lay the hammer on next Gen and completely dismantles the competition no matter if the next Xbox is weaker/stronger than the PS4/wiiu. Bookmark this, and come back here. You guys are delusional if you think Microsoft is abandoning gamers.

I can not wait for next Gen for the simple fact that all the people who was talking shit will look so stupid when their almighty powerful game system overestimated the console market and fail.

who else is as hyped for MS as I am. The internet will be very quiet in due time. The rats will crawl back into their hole

Ron_Danger4074d ago

They aren't abandoning gamers since they are still making their usual games for their next console. The problem is with the direction they are heading with their new console (based solely on all the rumors of course.) it seems like they are trying to make an all in one box with their cable like service that is developing. If they really do create an all in one machine, you can't expect them to equally share development focus across the board. After a year or 2 on the market, they'll take whatever service they provide that is the most profitable and make that their main focus. Gamers just need to hope that it's the games portion of their services that remains on top.

otherZinc4074d ago

@BABYLED,
I agree completely.

@Ron_Danger,
Some of you guys say M$ is abandoning gamers, SONY is all about the gamer???
Well:
I dont see Killzone making an 11million dollar movie for The Gamer! I dont see SONY creating a team like 343; MILLIONS spent there!

SONY released info of a Kinect like device for the PS4 at the press conference on the 20th & you guys act like no one saw this. You guys act like no one saw that weak Move demonstration. You guys act like no one saw any of this...Move is garbage & we all know this!

SONY has its core games: Uncharted, God Of War, GT, ant thats it that sells good Day 1 numbers without price cuts that Shareholders hate!

M$ has its core games: Halo, Gears, Fable. Million selling Day 1 dominators.

So what if they dont waste money making garbage that doesnt sell.

BABYLEG is right. M$ is going to bring it! Not with hypotheticals, but with a visual 720 console to show, but also with the functionality that they will speak of.

Ron_Danger4074d ago

Shocking that someone with one bubble assumed my comment was anti Microsoft. Trolls from all camps are really getting out of hand on this site.

smashcrashbash4074d ago (Edited 4073d ago )

Yawn. Another fanboy getting antsy because Sony talked about the PS4 first. 'Don't worry Microsoft is going to bring it and beat the PS4.You'll see *tears running down eyes*. We aren't worried but I think you might be. Ever since the PS4 was announced we have been listening to tears coming from all sides insisting you aren't afraid. 'Microsoft is going to bring a psychical console so that will beat the PS4'. PC is still king.PS4 will suck for sure' Wii U can still beat the PS4. I am sure of it'. It's so nice to see that despite all the trash talk you guys say against the PS4 it still has you concerned. The dragon is weak and you are still afraid.

smashcrashbash4074d ago

Wow someone is getting mighty defensive. Microsoft has games that sell crappy just like every other system. Not sure why people always hide behind Halo and Gears and refuse to acknowledge the games that sell like rubbish or even the Kinect games that sell like rubbish. They do 'waste money' as you put it selling garbage that doesn't sell. There is a whole list of it including Kinect game. It's just fanboys make sure and ignore them so it doesn't disrupt their fanboyish deluded state. As soon as we talk about sales you run behind Halo's and Gears skirts and put your fingers in your ears if we even mention the failed games Microsoft has made.

BTW Kinect is garbage too. It's just that Microsoft people were more gullible to fall for Microsoft's con that's all. Kinect games sell like crap and Microsoft uses it for nothing but stupid gimmicks. If you saw Kinect doing what Move was doing with MM you would be cheering them on and attacking anyone who said otherwise but since it is Move you come trash talking it.People cheered on every crap Kinect claimed it could do but no one even cares anymore. No even wants it for the next gen. Did you even look outside your fanboy bubble and see that not even hackers who claimed that Kinect could be hacked to do all sorts of stuff are even doing it anymore? Sorry to bring you back to reality but Kinect is crap too. It's just that Microsoft conned you into buying it better then Sony did with the Move. And talking about not seeing or remembering don't think we have forgot Microsoft's promise to use the Kinect for things besides gimmicks and how it is more accurate then a controller. We are still waiting for it to replace the controller and for the gimmicks to stop. Just because you believed every lie Microsoft told doesn't put you in any position to critize the Move.

Dragos754074d ago

"it seems like they are trying to make an all in one box with their cable like service that is developing."

And sony is doing the exact same thing. They just don't talk about it as much. Sony even bragged that nextflix on PS3 is used more than any other device. Sony wants that living room too. It makes sense because out of the two they are much more of an entertainment company than MS is.

Ron_Danger4074d ago

What you say about Sony is true to some extent. The difference between Sony and Microsoft heading into the next generation, though, is that Sony is sort of partnering themselves with services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, whereas Microsoft created a new studio who's sole purpose is to work on their new "cable" service.

Sony has never been shy about they're multimedia services. The CD player in PS1, DVD player in PS2, and BluRay in PS3 were all selling points to each system. Sony have stated (and clearly shown in their Feb 20th conferance) that they are not changing their focus on gaming. Microsoft on the other hand has yet to make a clear statement on their stance as far as a focus on next gen gaming. So for now we can only speculate and hope that they'll continue their gaming focus, but as the days go on and more (rumored) info comes out, it's getting harder and harder to believe that the next Xbox will be gaming first.

And I'm not disagreeing with you, just want some form of good conversation.

FrigidDARKNESS4074d ago

Dual cpu and gpu with 8 x64 four per cpu. This completely blows the orbis away cant wait to see BF4 on the Durango running on a souped up version of DX-11.

SlyFoxC4074d ago

pretty sure that the 720 and ps4 have the same cpu and gpu...

DoesUs4074d ago

Sly, it's nigh on the same CPU. It's going to be rather disappointing to the MS supporters when the actual machine is unveiled.

SlyFoxC4073d ago

idk i just looked up the CPU in each and here we go

PS4 CPU
- contains 8 jaguar cores at 1.6 ghz arranged into two clusters
- each cluster contains 4 cores and a shared 2mb L2 cache

720 CPU
- 8 cores running 1.6 ghz
-each module of 4 cores has a 2 MB L2 cache resulting in a total of 4 MB of L2

Huh....that sound like the exact same cpu to me....

the GPU for both are exactly the same also...

greenpowerz4074d ago

VGLeaks seems to be getting lucky with rummored specs.

VGLeaks Orbis was almost dead on before Sony changed some of the specs at their reveal.

http://www.vgleaks.com/worl...

Some of these things in that link were dead on just days/weeks befoer Sony's reveal

720 Seems to be a multi taking champ #1

Bumpmapping4074d ago

Same CPU as the PS4 next.

SlyFoxC4073d ago

@greeen

that is the same CPU as the ps4 which is what i was trying to tell Frigid

it takes 5 seconds to search this stuff...

http://www.vgleaks.com/worl...

http://www.vgleaks.com/worl...

Both are from the same site so my guess is that we have basically two of the same systems with different ram and different names.

doesnt matter to me tho im getting both

jmac534074d ago

Microsoft built the Xbox brand on core gamers. I doubt that they will let that branding slip away.

Xbox Is Not Your Friend

After laying off almost 2,000 people, Xbox finds itself in a position at odds with the community-first image it has cultivated for itself.

kotaku.com.au
TwoPicklesGood4h ago

lol I’m not a big MS gamer but Sony and a number of others have laid off ton of people as well. Where are the ridiculous articles about them not being your friend? Gaming news is such a joke and these sites wonder why they have to beg for money/patreons or flood with 5x more ads.

Profchaos3h ago

I think the sentiment is corporations are there to make money they are not out friends that are harsh and cutthroat when lt comes to the bottom line so why do we proclaim our love for any gaming company from the rooftops when they wouldn't care about us unless we are buying the next thing.

We need to beore objective with how we view these "teams"

Gridknac2h ago

This is the absolute truth. The only part of you these companies, ALL companies, want to be friends with is your bank account. They don't care what they have to say, who's job they have to cut, or what shady underhandedness they must engage in. Bottom line is all that matters.

Vits1h ago

Because people unfortunately make these companies and products part of their own persona, so when they are scrutinized, they see it as an attack on themselves. There is some neuropsychological research around this phenomenon, but it basically has the same effect as religion. It helps foster a sense of community that humans need to feel comfortable. So that is not happening unless we have a sudden surge of people actually understanding how they work and taking control of themselves.

Magatsuhi1h ago

While it's true Sony isn't a friend either, let's not pretend that they're even in the same ballpark as MS's anti consumer practices. Sony is not a friend but atleast they're not an enemy like MS.

derek2h ago

@twopickles, were you not paying attention? Sony was heavily criticized when they laid off people weeks ago, more than Microsoft did with their massive abk layoffs.

Gamingsince19811h ago

I want to know who thought Xbox was community first anyway lmfao

ChasterMies52m ago

That’s Whataboutism. Sony and other game companies didn’t pay more than $80B to buy up publishers. Microsoft said in court that it wasn’t going to have redundancies and fire people. Microsoft told Xbox owners that they would have a AAA on GamePass each quarter. But here we are with Microsoft Game Studios shrinking. Consolidation doesn’t benefit the consumer, and no company has consolidated more than Microsoft.

BehindTheRows48m ago(Edited 47m ago)

Exactly. They love their SonyToo instead of looking at everything in its totality. You spend $80B to buy up so many pubs/devs, you damn well should have something to show for it.

That said, this article is old and someone is clearly looking for clicks!

z2g17m ago

I’m glad you see the thru the reality distortion field so many on this site don’t. My brother-in-law was just let go from PlayStation (here in PV/LA) literally just weeks ago after taking the job just 2 months before. He quite his previous job that was doing just fine to work for Sony.

Christopher8m ago

I agree that every corporation is part of the problem, but bit perhaps in the future have more of an argument than a whatsboutism? It makes it sound like your only issue is that people are complaining about Microsoft.

cthulhucultist2h ago

ok here is a reality check. Tech companies have been firing thousands of employees the last couple of years.

I find it odd that the percentage of employees sacked from MS

QUOTE
"Microsoft announced approximately 1,900 job cuts across its gaming division, including Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and Xbox. 8.6% of its colossal 22,000-strong global workforce. "

is worth writing an article condemning the company, when Sony Interactive fired 8% of its workforce (900 people approximately).

https://news.crunchbase.com...

Is the writer concerned about the percentage of the workforce fired or the number of employees?

Lets not forget that Unity laid off 25 percent of its workforce (1800 people) and Discord laid off 17 percent of its employees.

You also have to take into account the AI issue reported in the article. MS is heavily invested in A.I. They have invested in Open A.I (chatgpt 4+Dalle 3), in Abu Dhabi’s G42 and in French AI company Mistral.

These LLMs have already replaced thousands of jobs as A.I usage becomes more common

https://www.cbsnews.com/new...
https://www.theverge.com/20...
https://tech.co/news/compan...

This is the new reality. Even nvidia CEO said that games will fully A.I generated.

https://www.pcgamer.com/sof...

Nevertheless, no company should be ever viewed as "your friend". MS had numerous anti consumer practices in place and the same is true for Sony (not only in video game space) and Nintendo (60$ dollar games without permanent discounts, remasters of 10 year old game with full price, no console price cuts, expensive joy cons which are prone to drift, to name but a few).

Popsicle2h ago

Must be. Thought it to be common knowledge that no corporation is your friend.

thesoftware7305m ago

Hahaha, I was thinking the same thing.

Silly nonsense that applies to all companies. Do people really think these companies care about them? we are consumers, and they track us by $$$, not our character, personality, family, or this over-inflated console war.

rippermcrip2h ago

Xbox had a community-first image? Since when?

Microsoft Seemingly Closes Bethesda France

As part of its plans to cut 1,900 jobs, Microsoft has reportedly shut down operations at Bethesda France, letting go roughly 15 people

Microsoft should have left them stay 3rd party

GamerRN12h ago

If they are let go, they can be whatever they want. They ARE 3rd party now... 🤦

Barlos10h ago

Yeah, they're also jobless.

GamerRN3h ago

They can form a company if they want, they are just as jobless as if "Microsoft had left them as 3rd party".

peppeaccardo4h ago

"MIcrosoft leaves Bethesda do what they know how to do best" ... close! Oh the irony ....
(Citation from a week old article)

ChasterMies57m ago

I think Microsoft and other game publishers are letting people go because they think ai will replace them. Doesn’t matter how much profit they make. They were always going to be let go.

PassNextquestion14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Bethesda France was made up of roughly 15 people... they couldn't of being doing much

Bethesda France mainly did publishing and marketing within the region

blacktiger12h ago

that's a shame for you to say that, i'm sure Elite loves hearing what you just said.

Profchaos14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto14h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos14h ago

Possibly guven all the leaks we know the Xbox brand is really struggling in the region.

Yi-Long11h ago

Well, if your consoles and games are barely found in any stores any more, of course you're gonna struggle finding consumers ...

XiNatsuDragnel13h ago

Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo

Profchaos11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I think it would have been better for all parties really especially gamers

TheColbertinator12h ago

The recently purchased Activision French offices might take over all the licensing and marketing for Microsoft in France from now on.

Xbox's Preservation Step Sets A Much-Needed Example, Especially For Nintendo

Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"

purple10111d ago

Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”

Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever

Nice one ☝️

Zeref11d ago

It's better than what Nintendo and Playstation is doing. It might not be perfect but at least they are TRYING. Unlike the others.

DarXyde11d ago

Trying? Take off the blinders for a moment, mate.

1. A failure to preserve games is just that: a failure to preserve games. Don't try to sugarcoat it: NO ONE is doing it properly. Better than awful is nothing to write home about.

2. At the time of this comment, isn't it the case that you need an internet connection to play Xbox games even if you buy physical discs that are hardly in circulation anymore? I don't have a Series X and I can't verify, but I think that is correct. I'm fairly certain you can at least play PS5 games at version 1.0 (not much of a win really when many games require day one patches). I think Microsoft's all digital, licensing approach is by far more aggressive than anyone else's. They really try to push you to game pass where you lose your entire library by umm.... Skipping a month of payments.

I don't think anyone is doing it right whatsoever. Don't get me started on Nintendo, who goes after anyone looking to preserve their games better than they ever would with extreme litigation.

Don't be a simp for any of these companies. Get it together.

PhillyDonJawn11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

@DarX never speak on Xbox again. You lost all credibility with your internet connection comment. Smh you have 0 clue and misinformed yet speaking on something you don't no squat about.

Einhander197211d ago

What has Sony done exactly? You guys keep deflecting to Sony but I am not actually seeing any results, and ai am certain nothing that you can come up with even comes close to what Microsoft has done and what they have tried and failed to do, like tie all your disks to your account on xbone.

Microsoft removed their whole indie section when they moved to the xbone because they were going to only allow games on the service that came from a publisher, id@xbox started after xbone launched and it only exists because Sony embraced indie and Microsoft was forced to cancel their plans and reverse course.

And every single game that was part of games for windows live including disk games (I have gta 4 on disk that won't work) so hundreds of games that use that DRM no longer work unless the company themselves patched it out which of course very few did.

MrBaskerville11d ago

Not trying. Tried. they killed of the backcomp program years ago. They set something up again, but sounds like it's more of an attempt to save the current library on whatever they are planning next. With luck they save everything and more, but let's see. I could see them killing off parts of the OG xbox and 360 libraries. Can't imagine that they would allow us to play Forza 5-7 in the future.

With that said, I do like what they've done and really wish they could have done more.

shinoff218310d ago

Zeref

So killing off physical media is trying what exactly. Ms don't really give a fk if you think they do your kidding yourself.

Profchaos10d ago

They are not trying this team is established for forward compatability the team is. It interested in preserving Xbox or 360 games.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 10d ago
isarai11d ago

Is that why Hellblade 2 is digital only?

Zeref11d ago

Just because it's digital only doesn't mean you can't preserve it. Just put it on an external and you have the exact same functionality of what a disc does.

MrNinosan11d ago

Guess you're trolling, but if you actually think that's how it works, I'd recommend buying some braincells.

mkis00710d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Volitile vs nonvolitile data. A disc will not corrupt either. A drive can be corrupted.

Einhander197211d ago

This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.

No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.

Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.

Einhander197211d ago

Anyone remember xblig which Microsoft removed their whole 360 indie section removing hundreds of games from people?

11d ago
11d ago
Zeref11d ago

Do you know you can put your games on an external and preserve them that way? There are no benefits to discs. ZERO. Idk why some of you are still obsessed with them.

DarXyde11d ago

Because games like Persona 5 exist. It's STILL V1.00. On Playstation, that's a win because 1.00 is installed on the disc—no need to download anything.

If a game does not require any updates, it's all on the disc.

Extremely low bar in the modern era, of course. It's not much of a win by any stretch.

But for now, physical media does have a purpose, at least on Playstation.

Einhander197211d ago

That is factually not how game licensing works, try plugging your hard drive into someone else xbox, It's not going to work, and it won't work if the licensing servers ever go down.

Einhander197211d ago

Anyone remember games for windows live.

I have around a dozen games, some on Steam itself that will not work because Microsoft shut off the licensing servers.

BehindTheRows11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

I do. I STILL have games (Gears of War being the big one) I cannot access because Games for Windows LIVE is total garbage and no one has held Microsoft accountable.

Zeref11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership.

Chevalier10d ago

"You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership."

Damn how many times do people got to explain your idiocy to you? You can take a copy of Persona 5 like someone used as an example and play that game on ANY console WITHOUT logging in which means I can lend the game to a friend without internet and they can play my game. Can you lend your hard drive to anyone without logging in for them to play? NOPE. That is a huge difference and if you think otherwise then sorry you're an idiot.

Tacoboto11d ago

"No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft."

Ubisoft is literally erasing games people bought from their libraries... My PS1-3 discs are useless on modern hardware. Nintendo's re-published and resold almost their entire Wii U library, and the eShop is completely dead with no BC mechanism in the Switch software. Microsoft publishes everything they make today day one on Steam and Xbox/Windows. Sony only brings to PC the titles they think you might want some years later and Nintendo won't even design a functional long-lasting joystick.

You're absolutely trolling and not serious if you think Microsoft today is the worst offender.

shinoff218310d ago

Yay steam

Not everyone fks with computers though. The disc is still the best way as a console player. Period.

Tacoboto10d ago

How do Sony and Nintendo feel about these discs from 2001-2013?

Don't be stupid, you know Xbox is the best at this today.

Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?

crazyCoconuts11d ago

Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.

Xeofate10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

That is not their plan, their plan is to transfer users accounts to the cloud.

Phil Spencer himself said as much a few months back, plans could have changed but I think people are reading way too much into one statement where Phil said he would allow Epic on xbox because he wants to be able to sell xbox games directly on other platforms. Aka, instead of selling Sea of Thives through PSN he wants to have an xbox store to sell his games on PlayStation without giving PlayStation any money.

Again, it's extremely unlikely that Phil plans to put PC on xbox and licensing would prevent them from just giving out other publishers games purchased on xbox copies of thier games on PC, Microsoft does not own their games.

crazyCoconuts10d ago

The thing that doesn't align with the cloud strategy is the giving up on exclusives. You'd still need strong exclusives for cloud streaming - it's still a "platform" , just with a lower upfront hardware investment. I feel like they've learned what PS learned with PSNow long ago. We're not ready to stream games and it's only gonna lose them money to try at this point

FinalFantasyFanatic10d ago

I would love that, I'd buy up some of the Xbox games if they could run on PC, like the Rare Replay, Lost Odyssey and Dead or Alive Ultimate, probably a pipe dream though.
