PS4 developers talk how the DualShock 4 was tweaked

XMNR: Sony is making ergonomic tweaks to the classic DualShock controller design for the PS4 along with adding in new features like the Share button and PS Move tech. During the Jimmy Fallon gameplay presentation they were using R1 for shooting which I found strange considering GG suggested the triggers for DS4. I wonder what they will choose for default setting. Either way there has always been an option.

Hdz544074d ago

I noticed that too. Hopefully going forward developers will map aim/shoot functions to the triggers by default. Some games like Killzone/CoD/Resistance allowed you to customize but most did not.

JoGam4074d ago

I want the shoot to remain R1. Its what Playstation consumers are use too. If anything give the option to map buttons.

Hdz544074d ago

To each his own but I just think it's only logical to map R2 to shoot. What's the point of "trigger" buttons if they aren't used as a trigger in shooting games? I know some gamers are resistant to change but don't knock it til you try it. I know many dual console owners who prefer the 360 controller for shooters and the aim/shoot mapping is a big reason why.

Ju4074d ago (Edited 4074d ago )

Why do people think triggers for shooters need to be on R2? Can someone explain this to me? This is the most annoying thing. You need short reaction time on the triggers and an analog switch will just add to the lag. I don't get it and I hate it when they port those games over thinking they do someone a favor. I never want to see this on PS4 games, tbh. Analog triggers are for racing games and that's that. Go get an xbox if you want analog triggers, seriously.

Bioshock comes in mind, thank God controls were customizable.

Jamaicangmr4074d ago

Exactly as i find R1 to feel much more natural to me. Well here's to customizable controls on all gsmes.

Listening EA?

Genki4074d ago

Probably because they've never handled firearms in their entire lives. Personally, I do like the XBox triggers and think that they're well designed, but I agree with you in that they're better suited to racing games as a primary function, and precision related tasks or mini-games otherwise.

Ju4073d ago

Don't get me wrong. I believe the 360 controller has the better analog triggers (and that's where it ends - awful dpad, and DS3 sticks are much more precise!), but those shouldn't be use to fire in games.

I hated Fallons teenage girl screams, and lack of ability to pick up an FPS and make it somewhat function. He sucks.

DERKADER4074d ago

Yeah it was painful to watch

Root4074d ago

Shame they can't have a host show where the guy is actually a gamer and knows what he's doing.

Using the DS4 as a wheel? Would be great if the six axis has been greatly improved compared to the DS3.
