God of War Ascension Demo Impressions

MasonicGamer.com: Sony released a new God of War Ascension demo today and I decided to give it a try to give you my impressions. First up I should give you my personal opinion on the series so you know what I think going into Ascension.

The over the top spectacle is what got me moreso than the raw graphics. I mean, you're fighting a monster on a chunk of road\building that is moving and rotating while you fight, then you're in a prison block held by giant hands, then you're surfing Sonic Adventures style down another crumbling street...all within a demo that lasted me less than 40 mintes. Cant wait for the full game! (Now they just need a Vita GoW)

I thought it felt plenty epic! Plus it's a demo, can't put the most amazing moments there, have to save some for the full game. Love the new grappling and weapon system as well.

Just wait until you see what happens after the demo ends... It will not only be more epic than the most epic moments in GoW3 but it will be one of the, if not the most epic moments in videogames history.

Its a different demo and its epic.By far the best demo I have played in a long time.Looks fantastic,plays smoother then butter and the new grappling is awsome.This series just seems to be getting better and better over the years.Cant imagine what SM new IP will be this E3.

The issue with sound was caused by the game's default setting being set to "surround sound". Switching to "stereo" will fix it. That did it for me anyway.

The game is epic by the way.

The controls feel lighter than the other GOWs which I'm not sure if I like yet, will get used to them though!

Good, but far from God of War 3. Art Direction, Music, level-design, everything feels downgraded excepted gameplay.

The gameplay did seem like the biggest upgrade during the reveal of the Single Player demo.

I will agree that it does not look as refined as God of War 3 in the graphics department. It is only a demo though. I compared the two and you can tell that god of war 3 had a longer development time in terms of graphics. It still looks amazing though. The color palette--- at least in the demo---is what I dont like. Kratos as never looked better.

I know it's blasphemy but I'm just done with God of war. I've played every God of war game released and liked them all but I've more than had my fill by this point. If this was a sequel I might consider buying it just for the story but I really don't need another prequel.

The graphics are pretty amazing and I liked many aspects of that giant boss fight but it's just the same thing over again with a prettier coat of paint. Plus, maybe it is just another symptom of having played too much God of war but I felt no real passion in this demo. The older games might not have been Shakespeare but they really felt driven by a passion to make a truly epic game in line with the Ancient Greek legends and the fun cheesy 70's movies based upon them. This game felt technically well made but just somehow soulless, I didn't feel like anybody involved really believed this addition to the franchise was truly necessary. But hey, enough ranting, by this point you've already read the first line, discovered that I'm not praising the game, clicked disagree and moved on.

I don't care for the disagrees so I'm gonna have to say I actually agree with you here. I'm a huge gow fan & will end up buying the game but it felt rushed compared to 3.

Something tells me the addition of the multiplayer has something to do with this. Still, I can't judge the whole game based on the demo.

If you've played all the God of Wars then I can understand if youre just bombed out on the series. Thats alot of coloured orb youve collected and you'd probably agree its not the game at fault so much, as its just youve simply had to much of it.

I do have to disagree with the notion that the makers didnt really care but. Every God of War has had a new director and every one has tried to make the game their own, leaving their own stamp on the series. They all brought it as far as passion goes.

Maybe watching some of the behind the scenes videos might help to rekindle that excitement again and feel a bit of the love Todd Papy put into it. I always appreciate games and movies more once I've seen the work thats gone into it.

If not, then you probably just need a rest.

One question i have for you. Do u play cod? Cause if u do then you are full of $h1t. Cause if any game is the same it will be cod with the same crap year after year, i love god of war and i don't feel like is the same and also like the prequel setting, yes i play tje demo and beta and I'm playing gow 3 again

I've never owned a Call of duty game in my life. I bought World at war for a friend and played a little of his copy of COD4 but no, never owned my own copy or played more than about an hour of any of them.

I just hope the R1 symbol was just place holders before final code! They just looked wrong and out of place they gave the square x o triangle a makeover so it blends better with the look of the game so why not the R1... Day one for me anyway.. love the series can't wait to see kratos rage kill every fucker he meets the guys off his head!!

This demo blew me away. I love god of war but have not really had this one on my radar as I presumed it was gonna be a multiplayer focused game. Then I played this demo and holy crap; everything has been turned up to 11! Graphics, action, set pieces, violence, gameplay, art direction... Literally speechless
