We know Microsoft will make Kinect 2, and it self cost a lot. So... there are 2 way Microsoft will sell console.

1)Xbox720(Kinect 2 built in) and console is weaker than PS4 = Same price as PS4

2)Xbox720(Kinect 2 built in) and console is strong or stronger than PS4 = higher price than PS4

If they built just Xbox720, and same strong as PS4, price could be same, but we know that Kinect 2 will be built in Xbox 720 which means cost alot, this means they put higher price in market, or same price and weaker console.

PS4 has a similar camera included. DDR5 is a lot more expensive than DDR3. Kinect 1 was never as expensive as people thought it would be. Next Xbox might be using a cheaper GPU which is a lot less. They may be using two of them but it still would be less than the one in the PS4. No One knows the price until we see the actual parts. But there are plenty of reasons to believe the Xbox will still cost less to manufacture.

Pachter did at least get it right when he said the new consoles wouldn't appear until 2013-14.

@dc gddr5 cost more ddr3 but no one knows to what extent and to compensate for ddr3 low bandwidth Ms had to add 32MB of esrsm and those move engines,this could make the cost for both systems similar. The ps4 camera is just two 720p camera duck taped together.

True enough, but until we see the final parts we don't know. Overall I don't think Microsoft's goal is to save a ton of money. The 720 might be more expensive to produce. Though probably not by much. I think MSs goal is performance. And the differences in their design are based on things they've figured out.

Microsoft basically knows that 360's Upper Hand this generation were 2 things....

1. They were out earlier so they had a year headstart to gain a strong ground.

2. It was cheaper than the PS3 so if anyone tried to decide based on pricetag and not Friendslist of Games, they went 360. Especially the arcade model.

I'd find it, even though I don't have much trust or faith in Microsoft as a company, that they'd be STUPID enough to fuck over their Price-advantage that people may have come to recognize for their console brand in a way..... If the tech isn't greater, than the price should most DEFINITELY be lower.

Here is the problem their hardcore fans ie 1st-2nd yr buyers, will likely not give a rat's ass about kinect 2.0.

They want exclusive triple AAA games, and good arcade games, like the 360's library was the first 3 or 4 yrs. Not like the last 3 or 4 yrs, where 1st party support was marginalized and ms was chasing nintendo's wii crowd.

Don't fuck over your core/hardcore market for casuals, because you need the hardcore crowd to save your ass, by buying it early on and help spread the system's reputation.

Kinect appealed to the casual market @300+ they won't be biting, not for the same concept in better graphics. We already saw that with the wiiu, failing to attract the wii crowd.

The 720 will have to appeal to the hardcore 360 crowd, if they want to be remotely successful.

They haven't announced it yet. So far, everything that's been said about the new Xbox is pure speculation. Even with the developers, they're going by current dev kit technology that MS has put out. They could upgrade their dev kits just like Sony did. We just don't know yet. I would say hold off until possibly April when MS officially announces their console, and hopefully shows off the specs for it.

I get the impression from comments I read here that you all seem to think price is dictated by just the specs so next box should be cheaper because its weaker than the ps4.

PAUSE: Now look at the tech of the Kinnect and what tech they push into a controller. This is why the Wii U cost so much even though it will be weaker compared to the other two systems and they are making a loss on each machine sold.

Pachter is an analyst, nothing more nothing less. If you were into getting stocks and bonds, you pay attention to guys like him. He's as big as he is because he was the first one to do that kind of work with gaming companies, which still not many people are doing. Guys like him do things like this for just about every type of stock, electronics, automotive, produce, telecommunications, etc. Now with Pach, they're doing video games. Most analysts, Pach included, are usually more wrong than right, but it's not his job to be right all the time. He predicts what the market is going to be (that's his job), and then the people that he really works for adjust their investments accordingly.

after listening to the podcast in full even though Micheal Pachter is controversial i believe he knows exactly what he is talking about and i don't doubt him for a moment that what he is saying is wrong. the Wii U shouldn't have been called Wii U cause it did confuse the gaming community into thinking that it was a game like the the Wii Fit. they should have went another direction with the name. the games for Wii U are here nor there and like pachter said Nintendo ain't going nowhere but they will not make a profit if the PS4 and Next-box get all the developer support. then onto the PS4 which i believe that will not be over $499 cause that would hurt Sony and they should aim for $300-$400 cause that would then knock the Wii U out of running as the most economical choice and that would turn the eyes of Microsoft closed to the gaming world as being number 1. so pachter i agree with everything you said and we shall see as time progresses what the deal is.

honestly, i don't believe both Sony and Microsoft can afford to go too expensive these days. at the least they will both target $400. coz business-wise that price point would be best compete with Nintendo's $350. they'll probably release something with less specs to go for that 400 price tag (less HDD space perhaps, less accessories). with the tech rumored for Xbox720, and even Sony's specs for PS4, the more likely starting price point would be at $450 at least.

Intel and AMD went on different ways to create 64bit architecture. Intel's Itanium failed while AMD's method was to stretch x86 instruction set for 64bit (this succeeded). Hence the reason why people AMD64 or x86-64bit. If you say Intel 64bit then you are referring to Itanium. Obviously researchers at Sony know the limitation of 32bit being only able to see less than 4gb. A wannabe podcaster thinks he found a 'issue' while PhD with 20 years+ didn't at Sony?
