Rainstorm814070d ago

I wonder what new IP will rise up for Sony this gen like GoW, Crash, & Uncharted did before?

Exciting times ahead

remanutd554070d ago

Im really happy to see a game like Knack getting announced on the ps4, love me some platformers!!!

nikoado4070d ago

Denny :“Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, GT6, and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic Assassin’s Creed, GTA,”

Wait..did he just let slip GT6 for the PS3?

Omar914070d ago

Thats exactly what I said when reading this.

nevin14070d ago

But you cant play those games on PS4?

Donnieboi4070d ago

I'll be getting DriveClub for ps4. And GT6 for ps3. PS4 will get GT 7 whenever polyphony damn well feels like making it.

nevin14070d ago

@TongkatAli

True, but most likely it will be

1. limited
2. low quality compared to running on actual hardware
3. Fee to play

TongkatAli4070d ago

Nice Crystal Ball you got there.

porkChop4070d ago

So basically GT6 is confirmed for the PS3. Surprised that the author of the article didn't point that out. I mean, GT6 hasn't even been announced yet.

I get the Vibe that a lot of Sony Employees just aren't really big fans of Jim Ryan and are dropping like flies after long careers of dedication to the brand. Shawn Layden was the first sign of that out the gate.

danny8181483d ago (Edited 1483d ago )

Ps5 presentation is prolly a sign of the lack of passion. Maybe not passion but guidance. There was a lack of guidance in that presentation and it’s delivery. Many fans were awaiting news and the way it was presented was a misfire

throne1483d ago

that presentation was actually for GDC so it was never going to showcase anything big, the ps4 GDC presentation was actually the same.

danny8181483d ago

@throne
Why would you want to present your hottest product for the non consumer tho?

KeenBean3451483d ago

I mean this guy was at Sony for 25 years, he probably just wanted to move on and have a new challenge. I wouldn't read too deep into this one

Dabigsiebowski1483d ago

@keenbean345 I'd believe that if he wasn't the only one.

throne1483d ago

or his post became redundant since the restructuring is fusing different branches of playstation together into one

Obscure_Observer1483d ago

"Shawn Layden was the first sign of that out the gate."

He left at the same time as Atsushi Morita, former president of SIE Japan retired.

rainslacker1483d ago

Or, you have all these execs who are known to be very qualified at their jobs, overseeing a division of Sony that helped with the complete restructuring of Sony from the brink of bankruptcy, and being downgraded fiscally, not having a lot of opportunities being open to them, because the success of PS hasn't gone unnoticed among business types who are starting to recognize the global nature of gaming, and how many commonalities that gaming has with many other industries.

Sony has seen it's share of execs leave over the years. It's not really all that uncommon. It wasn't until this gen where it suddenly became something to pontificate on as if it somehow meant something diabolical was going on, or that there were these huge divisions within the company.

rainslacker1482d ago

Sony not PS what? He oversaw European studios. PS was a huge part of Sony's turn around.

Seems like either a lot of the old guard is getting let go for a different regime or they're getting poached left & right given the success of the PlayStation 4 generation. Hopefully it will go well for everyone involved.

rainslacker1483d ago (Edited 1483d ago )

Maybe a combination of the two really. Management changes happen all the time. Some may have left because they were vying for Ryan's job, and didn't get it. Some may not agree with the direction PS may be going, or Ryan wants to take it. Many probably have offers from other companies, and they're just riding out their non-compete to take up a new position. Top execs can't usually just publicly go to another company right away, nor is poaching something that is publicly discussed, but most of these execs probably already have another job already. Mattrick probably had his job over at Zynga months before he announced he left MS, and he likely made a deal with MS to get out the door with minimal non-compete time. Other people that have left Sony announced 6 months later where they had moved on to, and 6 months is a typical non-compete time.

Execs aren't likely to leave due to philosophical differences like some are suggesting. Their job is to implement policy. Help make it where they can, give advice when prudent, but overall, execs like these do what the company needs them to do, and business is business. The fan boy notion that these guys are having a tantrum and feeling under appreciated so are leaving because they aren't fulfilled at their job anymore is rather presumptive, and really idiotic.

timotim1483d ago

A lot of PlayStation leadership and developers are retiring, moving on and going elsewhere it seems like. Maybe its just me though. Whats clear...the people running PS4 when it launched are going to be the same people launching PS5.

NewEnds01861483d ago

After 25 years I would want a change also. I don't know the circumstances of this situation, just giving my opinion.

Bathyj1483d ago

For all the doomsayers saying these people are all jumping ship speaking as someone who had the same job for 27 years since I was 16 sometimes you just want a change. I've been in the same industry for 30 years. This week I started a new career. It's only the 3rd job I've ever had in my life and I'm happy to not only be starting something new, but also to be leaving the baggage of my old job behind. If you haven't worked for one employer for that length of time then you don't know what it's like. Not to mention it's anything like my situation he could have received a years salary or more of accrued benefits which is a great safety Net and launchpad to try something new.

rainslacker1483d ago

I couldn't imagine doing the same job for so long....especially the one I had at 16. Was a dishwasher, and going into adulthood, I wanted to be a chef. Very early 20's, grew tired of food service, then went into IT. IT is one of those jobs where you're lucky to get 5 years at a single company. Grew tired of that after about 10 years, and went into game development, because that was more of an option as I became older as education became more available. Now, I've been doing that for almost 10 years, and I'm happy with it, but i know that my current employment will eventually end, and I may move onto something else.

Tetsdah1482d ago

Very reasonable outlook.

He's been with the company for 25 years, so the possibility of him wanting a change in routine and/or got a much better offer than what Sony willing to offer. This likely is the case for a number of their larger figureheads that left. Infighting and disagreements with current leadership could be a factor as well. The impact we won't know until seeing the direction of Sony proceeding after ps5.

A large part of why Sony being so scrutinized under the microscope is due to how successful they were this generation. Imo, a majority of doomsaying is sensationalized and from people who want to see Playstation fail next generation. I'm not going to say it is impossible and absolutely nothing is wrong at homebase, but the likelihood is very small.

and that's why PlayStation is the undisputed king of the world. the rich diversity of top quality exclusive games is gold level.

Imp0ssibl32122d ago

The real PSVR will be next generation though. On PS4 it isn't great

ApocalypseShadow2122d ago

But the "high fidelity vr" you get on that other system is awesome right?

Keep bringing them great games Sony. And I'll keep buying them.

WickedLester2122d ago (Edited 2122d ago )

And yet it brought me 2 of the best VR experiences I've ever had in Resident Evil 7 and Moss. Power isn't everything. Great game design trumps raw power every single time. It's nice if you can have both, but if I had to choose one over the other it would be great design.

Venoxn4g2122d ago

so bad for you.. (sarcasm).. Me and many others will continue to enjoy it..plus it looks even better and more clear on PS4 PRO

trooper_2122d ago

That's your biased opinion speaking.

uth112122d ago

i don't see how anyone could play Wipeout in VR and say it isn't good VR

MuddyWaters2122d ago (Edited 2122d ago )

Apocalypse Shadow,
"But the "high fidelity vr" you get on that other system is awesome right?"

Actually it is, you know Insomniac, the people who are making the killer game Spiderman? Well they are also making a killer VR game. It's called Stormland,

https://venturebeat.com/201...

There's also a ton of other great VR games like Lone Echo, Project Cars 2, Fallout 4, The Talos Principle, Wilson's Heart, Robo Recall and many more. The controllers are better, the headset has better tracking, the roomscale is much larger. You get the point. Or were you trying to take a jab at the Xbox One like so many others do here who are constantly consumed with the warrior attitude?

I have a PS4 but not PSVR. I have tried it many times at my friends. GT Sport is an awesome game but for some reason PSVR makes me feel sick and that game is very limited for VR functionality. Wipeout is great and they have a new game coming called Astro Bot Rescue Mission which looks very cool. But you really need to tone down your Sony is the best attitude and accept gaming all around

I would like to see more first person or third person shooter exclusives.

DialgaMarine2122d ago

Well, you’ve got TLoU2, and possibly another UC, to cover TPS. I agree though, at least one new FPS exclusive would be nice. That, and make another multiplayer focused title.

Alexious2122d ago

I'd be fine with Killzone 2 Remastered, to be honest. The multiplayer in that game was exceptional. If they made it 4K with checkerboard and with HDR support...

CaptainOmega2122d ago

I personally want a new IP or a reboot.

Socom would be nice.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2121d ago

Syphon Filter or Socom. What the hell is Sony waiting for?

ApocalypseShadow2122d ago (Edited 2122d ago )

I want syphon filter to come back. And an announcement of 8 days being brought out of moth balls. I really wanted that game before it was pulled in favor of eyepet because they thought they had redundancy in 3rd person action games. How can you have too many good action games? If gamers are buying them, keep making them new IPs.
https://youtu.be/GhnuysG50W...
https://youtu.be/jXD0Fjz2S3...
Yup. Still want it even after watching the videos.

BLow2122d ago (Edited 2122d ago )

Naughty Dog may change that with their new IP. They mentioned a long time ago the games they wanted to make. They mentioned 3 types and we've gotten 2 so far. The Last of Us is the second and is still going.

Just imagine for a second what ND could do with a First person shooter. I mean we have so many of them but I'm sure they will somehow still manage to still wow us. Time will tell.

I feel you one this type of game as well. There are millions of them(not first party wise though) but one in the hands of ND can give me goosebumps. We shall see....

Back to cave...

Omegasyde2122d ago

I would like another scifi FPS siliular to resistance fall of man

Or even better make resistance fall of man, but have it start from beginning tineline just with another character a “side-quel”

Flewid6382121d ago

Eeew. First person? Most overused perspective in gaming.

I'll pass on playing as a smartphone in a in a wheelbarrow.

Sony is so diverse compared to their competition

KaiPow2122d ago

Sony could certainly use their own Octopath Traveler.

DialgaMarine2122d ago

More than likely OT will release on PS4 eventually, plus I’d rather Sony not waste any of their first party efforts on a 16-bit graphics style game. It’s far better when they’re making use of the hardware.

Prince_TFK2122d ago

Don’t keep your hope up. Nintendo publishes OT.

DialgaMarine2122d ago

Noted. Thought it was published by SE. regardless, I’d still rather Sony didn’t devote any of their first games party to that particular graphical style. If they can do the multiple character stories element with graphics that make use of PS4 hardware, that’d be cool.
