I'm Just Gonna Ask: Why Was Square Enix At The Meeting?

Does anyone have any idea why Square Enix even bothered to show up at the PlayStation Meeting? Why did they show off an 8-month-old tech demo?

just to prove that they can run that demo on the ps4 with no problems, which is kinda dumb imo.

EDIT: Square Enix has stated in the past that they want consoles to be more powerful or more ram if my memory serves me right. Sorta implying that luminous can only run in a better equipped console. Square soft used to bring many wonders with their games with graphics that seem to beyond the capabilities of what a console can handle, so hearing them say they want to design games on a powerful console tells me they are no longer the magicians they used to be. *I look at the picture of the magician.....sigh......

@Abash

and that too, which is pretty much a given. How much you want to bet they will do the same with Microsoft just to excite xbox users in the West?

Abash4076d ago

It has more to do with them backing the PS4, it's to get the Japanese gamers as well as Final Fantasy fans excited for the system

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4076d ago (Edited 4076d ago )

I think mostly just sony showing that they have support from devs. But SE was the lamest part of the whole thing.

I hope for more jprgs in the west.

jc485734076d ago (Edited 4076d ago )

yes, one can only hope, but that hope was shattered when Sony brought in Activision to present. I remember when Activision used to support Japanese games in some respect. *Looks at Tenchu and Bloody Roar series. Man, Activision used to be a great publisher before they went COD full time.

for some strange reason I have a vibe that square enix and ms will pull something like ff13 verus at the ms event , ms is sneaky that way , and show cod4 on its next gen.

Godmars2904076d ago

I just wonder if Square is noting this reaction.

Square Enix was there to announce they will have an announcement at E3.

Does Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII have a release date yet? Not saying it will that, but I wouldn't put it past them. Hopefully it's Versus 13.

animegamingnerd4076d ago (Edited 4076d ago )

"watches as lighting returns also heads to PS4 and that is the E3 announcement"

_-EDMIX-_4076d ago

Its regarding the PS4 so....no.

classic2004076d ago

I think they were at the meeting to embarrass sony and them selves, I bet if sony knew what they were going to show on stage they would have pack them up and tell them to go back to japan lol. I laugh so hard when at what they did, give respect to capcom they showed something relevant.

Even EPIC change up there unreal 4 demo for the PS4 but square???

To tease Versus XIII for E3.

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

Profchaos14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle13d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger13d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag13d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Please o please don't turn dragon quest into final fantasy square enix we dont wont that. Dragon quest works well just as it I. Plus you'll piss off Japanese fans to.

jznrpg17d ago

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
