The build of this controller reminds me of a sportscar. Like the curves of a matte black ferrari. It's a pretty controller, much like when the 360 controller was announced. Can't wait to own a few of these.

I believe it was confirmed to be a touchpad only. Also in the pics you can see it's slightly textured and it doesn't look like glass. It's a pad.

@wintersun The touch pad kinda looks like the back of the vita. I hope it doesn't scratch as easy as the back of the vita. The front of my vita is beautiful, but the back is horrendous.

I think it won't scratch so much. Considering it's position only your fingers should be touching it. It would have to be of VERY low quality material to scratch from fingers.

I thinks its a simple headphone socket, next to the charging port for the controller (which would have to be on the bottom since the move light bar is on the top)

The new design approach reminds me of the GameCube controller in the sense that the GameCube controller was very comfortable to hold. They've clearer tried to make the dual shock 4 more ergonomic, can't wait to hold it. I'm interested to see how that touchpad will be implemented. Someone must have a good use for it.

When I first saw the leaked pictures of the PS4 controller it reminded me of the Dreamcast controller because of the screen :P
I can definitely see what your saying of how it reminds you of the Gamecube controller, it was a great controller fits in your hands nicely. One of my favourite controllers :)

DualShock has been around for so long now that making any bigger changes then what they have done with the DS4 would seem odd.

DS4 seems like a great improvement over DS3.

Extremely unsightly. Looks more like a toy, no branding, awkward shades of black, colour is reminescent of older tec. Looks cheap and cluttered.

EDIT: also the touch pad is really disturbing as it is central, being completely blank.

I don't like concave joysticks either. I always found that my thumbs would never be touching the comfortable part of the joystick while actively playing on the Xbox controller; however, my thumbs would occasionally slip off of the Dualshock. I think this design fixes both of those issues. By having a convex bubble inside of a concave depression, your fingers seem like they would stay on better while still touching the main part of the joystick. As far as I am concerned, conceptually, they've taken the best of both worlds.

If you can see, the controller has the same texture on the R1 n L1 as the analog sticks. Same with the d-pad. :)

Jesus Christ I just realised what we are looking at here in the first screenshot!!! Everyones been asking why that touchpad is curved. Look at the gap between where the curve ends and the controller begins. Then ask yourself why the pad is clickable... Got it, yes? IT FRIGGIN' FLIPS UP!! We haven't seen the screen yet, just the top.

I also wonder why there is a dedicated options button on the controller itself. Replacement for start/select? Maybe that'll be the "bring up the map" button now?

The connection is like the one used in the PSP for earphones; they go together though, so you can't connect two different things. It allows volume and mic controls. There are a lot of Sony products that use it. (Don't know about other brands).

The options button will replace start and select. The way it will be used is unknown yet. Maybe it will be like holding the PS button on the PS3 which brings out the system menu.

The DS3 has always been a crap pad, everyone outside of the moronic Sony fanboys knows this. Its why there are FAR more 3rd party PS3 pads shaped like the 360's. However this controller looks to fix a lot of the issues the DS3 had. Crappy triggers and poorly placed and designed joysticks. Cant wait to see the PS4 in person.

I expected more...way more than just a poorly excuse for a "new" controller", just better graphics, and online features which will be used by 10% of the people who actually buy your system...if it will be at a resonable price which I don't expect since the RAM is GDDR5..

I really like the look of DS4. Of coarse it will be a little odd at first, but a new console will allow my subconscious mind to absorb the different dimensions of the controller. The fact that it is a non-glossy finish is a plus, much grippier texture combined with larger size, nice. Interested to see how the speaker is utilised, in MGS4 I wore an ear piece so that Otacon (I know he's not real) could talk and provide battlefield data staight to my ear. This could be a similarly immersive tool. As for the triggers I have been using the little clip ons for my DS3's for years, why don't more people?
