PS4: 4 Ways It’ll Change PSN and the Community

'PlayStation has held the spotlight for the past couple days due to their official unveiling of the PlayStation 4, the DualShock 4, next-gen games and all the new online goodness they have planned. While watching the PlayStation Meeting 2013 livestream, I couldn’t help but think of how their online features could change the ways many have become accustomed to playing online. I have broken down four aspects of Sony’s new network goals and analyzed the impact I believe it could have on us individually and/or the online community as a whole.' - JPS

Nice read, and I'm hoping for the online accountability aspect, I own both consoles (xbox360 & Ps3) and PSN seemed to be the more mature of the two when it comes to online community, now that could all change with every ps4 coming with headsets, but if PSN can stay that way it would be nice......

But of course someone could easily not have Facebook or not use it on PSN as well.......we'll see

unchartedxplorer4079d ago

Yeah, children are at their most mature when they are silent.

SonyStyled4079d ago (Edited 4079d ago )

youd be suprised how many PSN users have mics, but yet dont use them. i never use mine. but for the times i do theres been countless times i would talk to a mute player with no mic on only to have them turn on theirs a minute later. all my friends that have a PS3 have mics too, yet dont really use them unless we are playing together

darthv724079d ago

how many 360 users have mics and dont use them. I hardly used mine as it was more of a distraction in a game with an intense firefight. I wouldnt want to hear anything but the actions on the tv.

When it came to playing uno, yeah id have it on and chat with the regulars i got to playing with. Its a nice option to have but not a requirement to wear.

Double_O_Revan4079d ago

I'm most excited for Gaikai. Being able to play the whole back catalog is Insane. There are many games I missed out on and would love to play but didn't always feel like tracking them all down.

Although I have a feeling games will trickle into the service as contacts with companies are made, like the Wii VC. But once it's built up, it has the potential to be game changing.

DarkZane4079d ago

Except you don't have to merge your PSN ID with Facebook ID.

Even if you were forced to, I can easily put a fake ID with no photo.

Anonymousity is there to stay.

New-Breed4079d ago

Most likely. That workaround was noted in the article. It was mainly a "what if" idea on how online gaming might be impacted if we were all forced to use our real names. Look at YouTube. They want people posting to use their full name. Assuming a person allowed their name to be displayed, I'm sure they're a bit more conscious of what they say.

WeAreLegion4079d ago

About trophies carrying less weight...

Actually, they could disable trophy earning when another player steps in to help you, like they do now when you activate cheats on games like GTA IV or Rock Band. :) It's simple.

The Pathless Console Exclusive to PlayStation 4

A brand new game from Annapurna has been announced at The Game Awards. It is from the creators of Abzu. The Pathless is a console exclusive to PlayStation 4

lxeasy1965d ago

Can't wait to play it on my PC, it looks really good

P_Bomb1966d ago

I could see it being a timed exclusive ala Edith Finch which Annapurna published for Giant Sparrow last year. Either way, they seem to have a good relationship with Sony if they’re doing it again. Giant Squid’s working on it too and Abzu was free on Plus last year.

HOLY SH!TBALLS!!

i want it so hard

I’m so torn on fallout 76 I would love another game similar to new Vegas but it doesn’t sound like it. At the same time it’s fallout and I’ll wanna play it either way but I may skip it if it is going the way of what the “leaks” are saying.I’m just hoping it ends up being more new Vegas style than what these “leaks” are saying.

Garethvk2151d ago

I think it is safe to say it will likely not be like the others. Free to play has been kicked around but likely an online aspect.

--bienio--2151d ago

If it’s online I will skip this:( sadly

Garethvk2151d ago

I think it will be key in what they do with it. Free to play online only is one thing but a game that allows co-op and team play has potential.

kneon2151d ago

@Garethvk

I see lots of opportunity for some kind of co-op game. You could have a team build a settlement, scavenge the wasteland for resources and then defend against waves of attackers.

showtimefolks2151d ago

It's not online because Bethesda current engine won't allow deep online modes

It might have some online aspects but I don't see a online only fallout game

Lighter92151d ago

Let's just wait until E3 until we make a judgement call. It's a week from now. One of the leaks I heard was ghoul-elephants that escaped from a zoo. They can't all be real.

Bobafret2151d ago

Dang, and I was interested in ghoul elephants.

CurbStompin2151d ago

This is a fallout survival game.

-Foxtrot2151d ago

Bethesda - "SavePlayer1"

***6 Months Later***

Bethesda - "Online Fallout"

Whut???

joab7772151d ago

It’s a service game. Look at the money ESO is making. Why make another ES right now? It will be some type of survival mmo of sorts is my guess.

3-4-52151d ago

I've never played a fallout game but I've known of them since the 90's. Always kind of interested me but never enough to play.

I actually am interested in this one.

Not sure why people are so opposed to multiplayer fallout, I think it's a great universe to co op in . Now if it's PvP functionality, not so much. plus it doesn't sound like this replaces the existence of a fallout 5 down the road, and I wouldn't doubt if another developer is working on a new Vegas line spin off. Let's just breathe, and see how this turns out.

Garethvk2151d ago

I would like a multiplayer version.

getbacktogaming2151d ago

A traditionally single player franchise is releasing a new game this time with a multiplayer focus... It doesn't matter what Bethesda does in the future; right now a bunch of people are naturally feeling disappointed.

Cmv382151d ago

I hate change as Much as the next person, and yes single player games matter, but if this industry doesn't have diversity and franchises door change things up every now and then things become stagnant and die off.

getbacktogaming2151d ago

Fallout has plenty of room to evolve as a single player... Bethesda just wants a piece of the multiplayer pie.

OneLove2151d ago

People need to get over it. It seems like a spin off and it's just the Sony fans mad that multiplayer is the real money maker.

IndieFolk2151d ago

Yeah, because "people" were totally expecting a sequel that soon. /s

They just made something "people" were not waiting for, then if "people" aren't interested in it, they should just skip it and wait for Fallout 5 within 5 years as they were doing before Bethesda announced 76. SMH.

IamTylerDurden12151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

I'd rather a New Vegas style game than an ESO "Fallout" edition. If they want a mp Fallout why not do New Vegas 2 but with drop in/out co op? Make a Fallout side story like New Vegas, but with co op similar to Borderlands.

Fallout does indeed have an interesting world, but so did Elder Scrolls. Do we really want Fallout turned into a f2p, MT ridden style game?

Cmv382151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

And that idea sounds great, that could be similar to what's going on here. My point is people are panicking at the very thought of multiplayer. Let's condemn if bad not based solely pin multiplayer.

KwietStorm_BLM2151d ago

People are opposed to multiplayer anything. There are some gamers who strangely despise anything online related, and there are some gamers who say single player games aren't worth the money. For some reason it seems more and more rare to find people who just enjoy both, on the internet anyway.

DerekTweed2151d ago

No friends to play online with?

(Not you. The people who hate multiplayer)

Garethvk2151d ago

That is what so much is focused on now. You have game that are designed as eSports first in their design priority.

Gwiz2151d ago

That and streaming,it's the ultimate advertising.Just look at sports and advertising in general.

Garethvk2151d ago

So true. You have all sorts of talking head celebs popping up who do not even play the games just talk about them.

FinalFantasyFanatic2151d ago

But how many of these games are competitive enough to be eSports? If I remember right, Dissidia NT wanted a piece of that pie and it kinda flopped. Even newer games like Street Fighter aren't as balanced as they should be for competitive play. People can stream for the sheer spectacle which I'm fine with (especially single-player games), but it's hard work and alot of time to get a game down pat for the purpose of making it an esport.

cfc832151d ago

I though a fallout MP would be impossible ?

Garethvk2151d ago

We will see in a week but it will be interesting.

FinalFantasyFanatic2151d ago

I can see it working best as a co-op like Monster Hunter, not sure how PvP would work without frustrating players though.

Tobse2151d ago

Make Fallout like rust and see how they climb in the Top 10 steam Charts

No it doesn't! It's still a technical marvel and it's narrative and themes are great! Most are having a blast with it and really there's just a very small minority that is upset with it!

terstomp2158d ago

Enjoyed the game, the story, the attention to detail and the music. Very immersive indeed.
(Reminder, slavery/exploitation knows no colour.)

TheOttomatic912158d ago

Uh there wasn’t really any thematic concern at all.

Lightning Mr Bubbles2158d ago

79% on metacritic is a travesty. I know the type of game it is not for everyone and some crazy reviews gave it 4/10. But anyone who enjoys story in games knows this is one of best games of the year so far, if not the best.

I beat the game and I already miss the characters, I know it's an open ended game but I wish they would find a way to make a sequel.
