With the reveal of the PS4, Sony clearly has a beautiful piece of new hardware prepared to launch this holiday, but reminiscent of the PS3’s reveal the game Killzone once again comes to the forefront of a conspiracy that Sony is showing off tech demos that their games can’t live up to.
Now, I won’t get into the argument of if Killzone 2 really pulled off equivalent graphics to its tech demo as it is still debatable, but that time has passed. The currently relevant argument is: was Killzone Shadow Fall running in 4k?
So, apparently there is a joystiq interview with Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida where he says that the PS4 will output 4k video, but not games. Yet, this article has no link to the interview, no quotes and is only three lines long. http://www.joystiq.com/2013... And yet in the full interview with eurogamer he states “I think these games were running at 1080p, but I'm no tech person.” http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... (end of interview).
Had that been the system architect stating the PS4 will not run 4k games, then it may have been confirmed, but it wasn’t and we still have these to deal with: http://www.flickr.com/photo... These are 4k images from the game as it was being demoed uploaded by the PlayStation blog team.
If those 4k screenshots are bull shots, then gamers have just been seeing a tech demo all over again on unconfirmed hardware. I personally believe that this was just a slip up on the blog team’s end and Sony was trying to keep 4k games a secret for E3 and pull the wool over MS eyes and let them think they have an advantage. But, if that is not the case have we just been “tech demoed” all over again?
Either way I am personally happy they will include 4k video support for sure, as I got plenty of usage out of my rig and my PS3’s blue ray capabilities at 1080p and plan to at least do the same for 4k. I know that they want to wait until E3 to unveil the actual box likely due to the things that need to be implemented for 4k support like HDMI 2.0, 4k blue rays, and HVEC. But this needs to be clarified directly by Sony or GG.
My biggest problem is, if the hardware can’t push 4k (which I’m sure it can), why would they release screens and demo the game at that resolution after the backlash they had with Killzone 2? Unfortunately, we may not get the answer until E3.
TSA's Miguel argues why you need to play Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4 now.
Fallout 76 hasn't received a massive update to the camping system yet and it's about time that it happened, especially with the player base rising.
Gigantosaurus: Dino Sports is coming, as the prehistoric sports party game looks set to launch on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC
They're not going to run games at 4K. It takes thousands of dollars in PC hardware to run games at even just 30 FPS in 4K.
Don't understand how one could think the Killzone thing was reminiscent of the Killzone 2 CGI at all. It was demoed on stage, and then demoed a day later on the Jimmy Fallon show.
I don't see how this is so difficult to understand. 4k games are not possible on PS4 specs! The gpu isn't anywhere close to being powerful enough. 4k is 10 times the resolution of 1080p. Just because the shots are 4k doesn't mean the demo was rendering it in 4k. Killzone in 1080p with a locked 30fps is a much more practical expectation.
I doubt even 9th gen will be able to do 4k to be honest, it's just too much of a jump.
lol....4k is NEVER going to happen in games on ps4 or nextbox unless its a 2d sidescrolling indie game with nothing on screen....the ps4 cpu is 1.6ghz and the gpu is an old mobile chip....seriously guys....
we'll be lucky if 90% of ps4/nextbox games stay at NATIVE 1080p for more than a year, devs will have to start cutting fast to keep up with graphical advances
it happened last gen
alan wake was 960x540
resistence 3 was 980x576
almost all cod games on consoles are 1024x600
halo games before part 4 were 1024x640
yet all launch 360 games were mandated by ms to be 720p
same thing will happen this gen with ps4/720
games will be native 1080p for a year or so, then 900p, then 842p///etc///etc
Oh god more 4k rumors. I have a more powerful system than the PS4 and I can not achieve 4k. One thing I do not like is that they will be pushing graphics instead of performance. On PC if I do not hit 60fps at max settings (Very rare) I lower a few settings. Performance > Visuals. 30FPS is not good enough.
