Our Games Editor Marc weighs in on the loss of backwards compatibility in the new Playstation.
Sony has recruited Bungie's head of revenue Jaremy Rich to head up its live-service gaming division, Rich has announced on social media.
Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.
I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.
Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.
How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
Sony has patented to add multiple dialogue modes to let players switch between how many conversations with NPCs they want in the game.
Sony is like the only ones outta the 3 that has atuff like like this pop up changing thing in ways.
Genuine Enabling Technology was seeking damages, claiming the tech allowing PlayStation consoles and controllers to communicate infringes its rights.
Sounds like patent trolling they tried the same thing against Nintendo with the same pattern.
Motion and control input traversing over higher and lower frequencies seperate from each other allowing the controller to do both
So to recoup the money Genuine is going to take on Nintendo or Microsoft next. I hate patent lawyers they are some of the worst bottom feeders out there.
It's a very small price to pay for a console that is so powerful and easy to develop for. No matter what disappointment you may feel about this, this is a move to propel the gaming industry forward with a console that developers can make games on without the limits of passed gens
they can't have backwards compatibility unless they have some form of the ps3's cell cpu inside the ps4 that can run the ps3 games. the reason that one model of the ps3 was backward compatible was because it had the emotion engine cpu from the ps2 in it. the only other two options is some form of emulator or online streaming. i don't see why people want an expensive ps4 with a ps3 in it when they can just have a cheaper ps4 and keep the ps3 they are so fond of.
the only case of when it is easily possible was if the ps3 and ps4 had the same cpu but people keep saying they want stronger consoles and that's exactly what they are getting
Sure just shove in PS3 parts into the PS4 and see how much the price will go up.
If i want to play PS3 games i have my PS3 for that so theres no need to worry for me.
Plus if you dont own a PS3 and are getting the PS4 just take into account that many devs will create a PS4 version of a PS3 game. Best example of this are games like watch dogs.
Why don't you just tape your ps3 to your ps4? That way your ps4 can play ps3 games.
with x86 acpu architecture it should be easy to set up epsxe on you ps4. I dont sony will allow this though.
