Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed this earlier today when speaking to Endgadget. While the PS4 will have limited backwards compatibility via the console's cloud-streaming services, it won't transfer your game data and thus you won't be able to transfer your library of PSN games.
Shuhei Yoshida chats with FINAL FANTASY XVI Producer Naoki Yoshida.
PlayStation boss Shuehei Yoshida wants the gaming industry to continue to chase its creative dreams.
Shu I agree but right now Sony themselves are working on more than 5 live service games
He’s been at PlayStation since the beginning, and seen the games industry transform beyond recognition. He talks unlikely successes, AI, and gaming’s future.
... and should make a huge dent in the confidence people have in digital-only purchases... :(
Yet another reason why I might leave Xbox and Playstation and go for a 'Steambox' next gen. At least with Steam you'll be pretty much guaranteed that your games will still be playable 15-20 years from now.
Hmm I really hope they don't make us rebuy those titles on PSN. This is just one of the many reasons why I hate digital content.
We'll most likely be able to stream them, but Sony better transfer those purchases rather than make us rebuy them.
There's only one game I can think of when I read that title and that's The Walking Dead, how will season 2 know my actions from season 1?
Hopefully your PSN account will still recognise what purchases you have made and make them available over Gaikai.
wtf?? that doesnt make any sense... even on the wiiU with a completely different online system(and a limited one at that) i could transfer my wii downloads.
