Review- F-Zero Wii U Virtual Console

Until July 2013 Nintendo is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Famicom by releasing "classic" titles for the new Wii U Virtual Console. As an added bonus, you can get these games for 30 cents during the first 30 days of each title's release. This month's release is F-Zero. Is it worth two bits and a buffalo nickel? Find out as wiiuonly's "King of Video Games" takes Capt. Falcon's car for a ride.

That game is difficult, in fact the whole series is damn difficult. I hope Nintendo Supports a new F-Zero, about as hardcore of a racer as you can get. F0:GX for GC had amazing visuals, would like to see this series get re-animated, especially to take advantage of HD

ZeekQuattro4079d ago

No kidding. I was taken aback by how hard the game can be. I totally forgot about it.

riverstars864079d ago

Why are Wii U owners sooooo happy about this, who gives a crap, use an emulator and play it for free. Lol

SonyNGP4079d ago

Hell yeah man piracy all the way! /s

Kevlar0094079d ago

First its interesting that Nintendo would put F-Zero as part of its celebration. The dream for some fans is that Nintendo makes a new F-Zero for the WiiU

Second, it's 30 cents and not everyone uses emulators (and it's not like we're running around and yelling as loud as we can)

stragomccloud4079d ago

Because sometimes when you like something, you want to pay for it to show your support. Afterall, our gamer dollars are like votes for the kinds of games that we like.

Of course if it's not available by all means emulate.

Nintendo won't let me buy Lufia, Lufia II, or Seiken Densetsu 3 or countless GBA games so... emulators and roms it is!

Of course the moment they actually allow me to buy their products I will oblige.

karlowma4079d ago

Buying this is playing it on an emulator :P

Man up and find a SNES. Best console ever.

kirbyu4079d ago (Edited 4079d ago )

Wouldn't you have to pay for an emulator? (if I'm wrong it's because I've never used one)

It's 30 cents for a terrific game, legally, on a console the company that made it made as well.

So, it's essentially free anyway, you won't have to worry about getting arrested when you play it, and fanboys won't get mad at you.

optimus4079d ago (Edited 4079d ago )

As of right now i have punchout, super punchout, super mario world, super metroid, and a few others along with some genesis games on my tablet...no i didn't pay for them, and no i'm not worried, and i don't care if fanboys get mad...quite the opposite actually, people think it's pretty cool, it makes them smile and gives them fond memories...so i did my good deed for the day. :p

@optimus
Is there a single person on the face of the Earth who agrees with me on anything?

MrKingofVideoGames4079d ago (Edited 4079d ago )

I agree with you. The game is 30 cents 'fer cryin' out loud (32 with tax). No left over points or online wallet money, an honest to goodness 32 cent charge to my credit card. Plus we have Super Metroid coming down the pike, too. One of the greatest games of all time and a game that would set you back at least $30 for a used cartridge. As far as emulations go, F-Zero on the Wii U Virtual Console is one of the best I have seen so far. Nintendo even listened to the PAL market and gave them the faster version of it to boot. But I digress, we also saw people complain about the free games Sony offered after the PSN hack and whenever PSN Plus gives away games they already have (Yup, I paid for "The Walking Dead" before the 1st 2 episodes were given away too). Can't anyone be happy about anything? For just one day? How's 'bout everyone directs some of their love of money into love for video games?

Nevers0ft4079d ago

I prefer the convenience of being able to play it on the Wii U Gamepad and for 30p it's a no-brainer. Don't get me wrong, I have a Wii and PC both with SNES emulators and the complete Romset... But that wont stop me buying the games on Wii U that add more to the original experience for ridiculously cheap prices.

i don't get it why people get excited about titles from the stoneage?? does the brainwashing machinery of nintendo really such a good job? i wish people would stop supporting purchases of abandonware.

mamotte4079d ago

"PS4 is fully backwards compatible"

¡¡¡BEST IDEA EVER!!!

kirbyu4079d ago

Because these are good games.

You need to get Super Mario Bros. as soon as possible. It's a ton of fun.

Nevers0ft4078d ago

Because new doesn't automatically equal better? If so, the original Star Wars trilogy would like to have words with the prequels ;)

I can still get several hours enjoyment out of old (non-Nintendo) 8bit games such as Frogger, Dig Dug and Galaga. Don't get me wrong, there were a LOT of turkeys released but you don't need bleeding-edge technology to have fun - if you did, I'd have replaced my right hand with a Fleshlight years ago.

Ex-Nintendo designer says no new F-Zero due to Mario Kart, low sales & high costs

F-Zero has been a dormant franchise for a couple of decades now. In fact, if it weren’t for the obvious appearances that Captain Falcon has been making in Super Smash Bros. games, you could get the impression that Nintendo has forgotten all about the series.

Have a new F-Zero hit within the first 2 years of Switch 2 and watch it sell away.

Immagaiden294d ago

Can’t believe Nintendo chose a remaster for Cruise N Blast over F-Zero GX

GhostScholar294d ago

I wish they would see the license then.

Knightofelemia294d ago

Maybe Nintendo should learn to drop the prices on their games if they want more sales. I have seen games that are 4 years old on store shelves at full price.

Rockstar293d ago

I've had treasure tracker for the switch bookmarked since it was released waiting for the price to hit my sweet spot of 30 bucks...still waiting...

blackblades294d ago

We haven't seen a lot of franchise's from Nintendo. Mario will always stay as the shit stain of Nintendo. Mario games are fun and Kirby but some times you get tired of seeing Mario everywhere literally everywhere. They are playing it safe.

It's Time for a New F-Zero Game

F-Zero is one of Nintendo's most neglected franchises, but the high-speed racing title could stand out from Mario Kart and utilize modern graphics.

Vits474d ago

We are probably only getting a new one when Miyamoto dies.

ZeekQuattro474d ago

There's a rumor GX is being ported over but we know how that goes.

Minute Man 721474d ago

No....the last one sold like 20k or something lower that a limbo pole

z2g474d ago

It is, but it’s a bummer it would most likely be held back by Nintendos weak hardware

Top 20 Soundtracks From the 16-Bit Era

In the 16-bit era, game devs and composers could finally change the type of tones used in the music, simulating a wider array of instruments and creating a whole lot of great soundtracks in the process.

It wasn’t easy picking out the best of the best because there were so many great ones. Even middle-of-the-road soundtracks seemed to deserve a bump if the game was just that damn good, and so many from that era are that damn good!

Here's the Ghetto Gamer list of top 20 soundtracks from the 16-bit era.
