GTA V: Xbox 360 version to have 10 discs?

Now if this quote doesn’t raise an eyebrow even “The Rock” would be proud of I don’t know what to tell you. This is still coming to multiple platforms correct? C’mon you know you thought that too.

Sounds like Rockstar, based on the latest news that released a little while back is making their biggest open-world game to date and not only their biggest GTA game, but biggest ever. GTA V bigger than RDR, GTA III: San Andreas, and GTA IV combined? How in the OPEN-WORLD (lmbo) is Rockstar going to pull this off? Let me bring it back a little to put things in perspective.

Interesting article, but I think it'll be 3 discs max, like L.A. Noire.

How they do that will be impressive considering it's supposedly larger than several of Rockstar's games combined, the scale and impressive detail in the world, and the improved graphics.

You guys got it lucky these days. I remember playing the Secret of Monkey Island 2 on the Amiga and having 11 disks!

And it was completely random too. Like you'd start on one disk then have to more to disk 7 and then disk 3 etc.

Anyway i font think the size of the map will matter. They can easily fit it on one disk. Just look at Just Cause 2. Even the cutscenes aren't that bad as Rockstar tends to just render them in the in game engine. LA Noire probably would have been one disk if it wasn't for the new facial tech. But who knows, its a valid concern and will be interesting to see how it ends up

This is just stupid, I will be surprised if it has more than 2... but it may fit on just one.

L.A. Noire needed 3 disk because of the facial animation. Graphics and such are not that large in size. Compression is also a lot better now then it was when GTA 4 released.

I'd say 2, or at the most 3. The Xbox 360 has a slightly larger size since the update a year or so ago. I think they hold close to 9 gigs each now? So I'd guess 2, maybe 3. Which isn't too bad at all.

How would this work with 10 discs. The game is an open world... If you go back to a different city do you reload a disc? Unless mandatory install.

I think no more than 4 disks would be reasonable, though I'm wondering if Rockstar would be able to take the same approach Halo 4 and Forza 4 did. They both came with two disks, the 2nd one you would install and never had to insert again.

Has anyone ever considered that Rockstar may even re-use some of the texture assets in other parts of the world/map? They don't have a unique texture for every single item in the map.

If I recall correctly, Avalanche relied upon procedural generation tech for both Just Cause 1 and 2. I can't remember to what extent, but it certainly would have given them more space for other in-game assets. There's also the repetitious nature of jungle environments making everyone's life easier. I get your point, though.

Since the PS3 is the lead console for this game and knowing it will only ship on 1 blu ray disc; this is a massive no brainer.

1- I don't see how people actually believe that GTA5 will be on anything more than two or three discs at the extreme most, let alone ten.

2- I don't see how getting up off your chair for a couple seconds to swap a disc once every few days is such an inconvenience. Even more so considering it likely takes less than one minute to do so considering most people have their games on a shelf close to their console and tv.
