Toki Tori 2 runs in 720p at 60 FPS on the Wii U

Toki Tori 2, Wii U title which was announced to run at 1080p months ago, will be running at 720p and 60fps.

I think for a game like this 720p is more than enough. Trine 2 looks brilliant and that is only running at 720p as well. I guess the developers would rather aim for 720p at 60fps instead of 1080p at 30fps.

That seems reasonable. I don't really see how 1080p could make such a simplistically styled game look any better anyway. It's like saying an iPad screen with 4K resolution will look significantly better than an iPad with a 1080p screen... it honestly won't. Higher resolutions benefit bigger screens primarily, just as higher resolutions are better for games with extreme realism and detail.

It's all about pixel density and this is why the 480p display on my gamepad matches the quality of my 42" 720p TV. Also I would take 720p 60fps over 1080p 30fps hands down.

It's not really all about the density though, That's why the Vita screen looks better than the retina display.

Seriously the game isnt that amazing graphically speaking which is why im a bit dissapointed that the Wii U isnt capable of running this title at 1080P at 60FPS.

Exactly which is why its a bit strange that a "true next gen console" isnt capable of rendering a 2D sidescroller at 1080P at 60FPS.

Edit: Its a downloadable title for the Wii U from an Indie developer which is probably why they dont have the budget to produce this title at 1080P at 60FPS.

Im not expecting either the PS4 or the 720 to be able to play all games in 1080P at 60FPS but im pretty sure they will be able to handle a game like Toki Tori at that resolution and framerate.

This is why i wont shift from 1080P on PC games, 60fps is very important.

Have a high end card last a while and give nice framerates at 1080p rather than lower, 30 and below is barely playable to me and not good enough.

No it's because by lowering the resolution you can get more graphical detail as well as higher framerates.

Plus wiiu upscales to 1080p anyway,and with it achieving Native 720p when u play in 1080p on wiiu it looks amazing anyway.

@MasterCornholio they added new features, the video you post is old, I do not think they did a video with the new features and enhancements, but they had a choice, I do not know if this article show it, but they had 1080p at 30fps, or they could of did 720p with 60fps

I'd much rather have 60FPS over 1080p most of the time, although in this instance I'm not sure why they can't aim for both - it's not as if the game is throwing around polygons with gay abandon, it's a 2D sidescroller.

Please TokiTori is demanding alot graphically the textures are insane with more Anti Alaising then any ps3 game to date its crisper than crisp basically ps3 could not achieve that game presented that nice END OF.

My guess is it's down to the rather slow DDR3 memory, it can only deliver so much so quickly, meaning it would start to struggle when delivering a full HD image.

The thing is though, this isn't a fast paced game, is it? So 900p or 1080p @ 30FPS could be better.

Maybe the developers felt the game played better at 720p & 60fps vs 1080p & 30fps. Really you're going to blame the RAM for being slow! What about the Xbox 720's RAM set-up? Because both systems are very similar in design when it comes to memory bandwidth. Which clearly you have no facts to back up that either system is slow in this regard.

I love the spinning and downplaying here, a simple 2d side scroller can't do 1080p 60 fps on a next gen console something is wrong.

It is just like mario bros has no excuse, metroid or zelda being 720p that is fine, this isn't.

But i guess we are not "real gamers", since we want good graphics, all this does is set even lower expectations, when you nintendo fans downplay these topics.

Its so sad that so many on here were gloating when they thought all these games would be 1080p nat. On wiiu and slowly but surely that list of games is becoming nothing. But its ok now right? It was the strongest talking point for faithfulls at one point along with Alien Colonial Marines visuals lol. Once again, no one ever claimed that this game would be 1080p 60fps. So maybe the developers did have it running at 1080p 30fps and figured that the gameplay was better at 720p 60fps without losing any visual quality. Who knows but the developers on this reasoning. But what is up with people having such hard ons against hardware? You guys act as if all PS4&720 games will be native 1080p! I'm almost guaranteeing that some developers will choose to put their games in 720p on those systems as well, to stretch the visual quality or gameplay a bit more. At the end of the day, most of us that understand hardware here know that most WiiU games will probably be 720p going up against many PS4/720 games that are 1080p. But if the WiiU games at 720p look close in quality to 1080p PS4&720 games, then who cares in the end...

Wait I'm confused. Are people claiming wii u can not run this title at 1080p 60fps? Or rather the devs didn't feel it was necessary to create the game in 1080p? Maybe it just wasn't cost effective to create it that way. I'm having a hard time with people who claim wii u is weak and that's why it won't run it at the native 1080p 60fps; especially when criterion just announced wii u version will look better than all other versions, built with the PC textures and improved lighting plus running at a solid 30fps, yet toki tori cant? Should anyone care when this if for a game like Toki Tori? I mean I have nothing against the game but that is like boasting about how my computer can run Angry Birds at 1080p at 60fps..

I just don't get the point of even mentioning it, I could understand when it is needed but for Toki Tori do we really need a performance run down analysis...?
