7 Reasons Why Touch Gaming Might Be More Than Just A Fad

The gaming scene is changing (evolving?). No more is it limited to gamepads and keyboard-mouse configurations. Touch-based games, hate it or love it, is now a big part of gaming, maybe even bigger than your orthodox forms of gaming (consoles, PC). Call it ‘casual’ gaming if you’re a PC/Console nazi, but you’ll have to agree, touch based games are serious business now. Many have come to despise or simply discard touch-gaming altogether, because of reasons such as “its not what gaming is” and “only the thick/shallow enjoy touch”.

Because it works and does not detract from any other function of a conventional gamepad.

I disagree. I could never see myself playing a game that requires any kind of precision on a touch screen device.

That being said, I do very much enjoy old, turn-based RPG's on touchscreens. Final Fantasy 3 is a great example of games that work extremely well on touch devices.

I wasn't referring to a touch only device. I was talking a bout a touch screen/pad on a traditional gaming control (wi U/ps4).

of course for touch only devices it works well for simple experiences

I've literally played hundreds of DS games and can confidently say touch screens controls when correctly implemented alongside traditional controls allow for a higher degree of precision.

Touch gaming by itself is weak and unresponsive, and can only work well with extreeeeeemely simple games.

If, however, it is added to a controller with real physical buttons like the PS4 is believed to have, then it can provide significant advantages. The power of touch-screens is their programmable nature. Devs can do whatever they want with them, adding new ways to control certain elements of the game or simply more buttons.

Touchscreen gaming has come a long way and offers a wide variety of games ranging from simple to challenging. You can't dismiss touchscreen gaming as only being simple as its simply not.

I like touch screen gaming when done right. The DS started the touch gaming at first.

I'll never use a touchpad for a shooter or racing game. I downloaded GTA 3 on iPhone and it was a disaster I couldn't control the dam cars or anything. I'll keep my controller and use touchpad only to hit buttons or draw things and that's it.

- No, hey, man, if we're gonna wear uniforms, man, you know let's have everybody wear something different.
- Yea, that's it. Yea, we want something where everybody wears something different, man, but the same, you know?

I don’t play Call of Duty, but every time I see something for it I’m like, “what the fuck is going on over there?” “Pay $80 for Kong’s robot fist!” “Shoot people as history’s two most famous potheads who don’t like guns in real life!”

Relientk775h ago

Ah yes, all the kids who play CoD will totally know who Cheech & Chong are
