@caseh I'm going by sales. If I was going by which I played the most it would be PS3, 360, then Wii. PS3 was without a doubt the best for gaming this gen. 360 was great for the first two years. After that 360 died for me. I never cared for my Wii, so I sold that long ago.

$399 is the perfect price point if you want a significant leap graphically. $299 would just be an underpowered system. I know graphics aren't everything and it doesn't make games good. If I'm shelling out money for something new I want to visually see an improvement if not I'd just stay with my PS3.

Anything higher than 350 will be suicide. People cried about the wii u after saying their "perfect price" and in todays economy people want affordable prices. It took the ps3 to start selling really well at 300 and people still wanted a price drop. So I say 350, give a 500gb hard drive with at least he promise of all the Psn things backward compatible, software will be a huge plus but people aren't going to want to buy if they have to forfeit the hundreds of not thousands they spent on Psn last gen.

Consoles aren't just a graphics card. You have to factor R&D costs which are enormous compared to off-the-shelf pc components. As well as operating systems, part of the reason consoles are so popular is because you get everything you need out of the box. And the hardware is basically gauranteed to hold the industry standard for about the next 10 years.

Basically anyone asking for less than $400 should stick with current gen or Wiiu for the next few years. Just saying.

£300 with some great launch games and it will do well in the UK.

Anything less than £300 would be a bonus. I hear reports of it costing £279 in Japan, but if you add VAT then it'll be £300.

If Sony prices this right, not only will it be more successful at launch, but they'll be making profits sooner; maybe from day one.

If the nintendo wii u is only in your opinion slightly more powerful then the current ps360 with its 2gb memory and makes no profit/breaks even, how will sony bring the ps4 to market at a similar price with more expensive tech?? are you saying the will sell the console at a loss?? can a company who are on the edge even able to sell products at a loss? sony are losing the TV wars to samsung, their mobile phone business has gone too.

So do we expect as any PLC will want and its shareholders a profit to be made meaning 2 things!

Besides Nintendo, the console business model has always been to lose money in the beginning and then make a profit from the console as you bring the cost down on parts. That has almost always been the case.

But times have changed. The next generation of consoles won't be so expensive to make. It's funny that many people saw the leaked documents for the next Xbox, that Microsoft admitted were from them, but most missed the part at the bottom that said they expected the cost to be around $299.

That thing had 3 CPUs and two GPUs. The reason for the $299 estimate was APUs. An APU can have a CPU and GPU on it and cost almost half the price of the separate parts. Neither of these powerful consoles will cost more to make than $400. I believe both will be less than that. But they will cost $400. The PS3 has taught both of them that $400 is the sweet spot for a console launch price.

how often do you see things come out with a cheaper price tag then their predecessor? i would be happy and willing to pay 600=< for the new console. what can $400 buy you in this day and age in terms of state of the art electronics? look at new phones they carry a large price tag and everyone still buys them. you pay 600 and up for the newest ipad, and yet no one complains about the ipad price. do you want a console that can still competes with pc's or do you want a wii u. speaking of the wii u that came out for more then what the wii did and the specs aren't that great in terms of next gen, so if you want a sony console for 400 be prepared to be playing something along the lines of the wii u. if that's the case i will stay with the ps3, but i don't see that happening i see a 600 beast of a console again just like the ps3. sony is pull all the stops and going to rock everyone's socks off.

450.00 given the rumored tech and what we also dont know sounds fair enough. My 600 dollarphat lasted me 4 plus years and i used it everyday continuously so i got my monies worth.
