Jimquisition Previewed, Preordered, Prescrewed

Preorder culture expects gamers to trust developers more than ever, but how does that work when they inspire so little faith?

The "take cash now, provide content later" tactic is currently serving companies well, but with recent disappointments like Aliens: Colonial Marines demonstrating how falsely advertised a game can be, one suspects it's a plan that cannot last. It certainly shouldn't be allowed to go on.

Another awesome episode.

I had such a busy day, I forgot it was JimDay!

Thank Jim for Jim.

I'm not usually a fan of Jim Sterling and I don't agree with DNF necessarily being a "stinker", but in this instance I think he's definitely onto something as far as what's wrong with the industry right now.

I think a lot of people misconstrue Sterling as someone that doesn't like games because he's overtly "harsh" towards triple A titles. The man is just completely honest. He evidently loves the industry and The Jimquisition just goes to show how much he really does. Another great episode.

LOL the ending...

HAHAHAHAHA

Whale Song of Sorrow.

(not a comment on Jims weight, but his singing ability. big people are just as awesome as small and medium people.)

I seriously LOLed at that ending.

The worst part ( at least in my eyes ) is always those review embargoes. I don't know I find that in some sense it hurts the game and perhaps reputation in the instance of Gearbox along with it's game Aliens Colonial Marines. I don't know if they could have done things differently had no such thing as a review embargo been enacted but certainly the fuss would have made them move perhaps?

Perjoss4077d ago

I guess the embargos are like a strategy for releasing a lot of hype for your game pretty much all on the same day at the exact time of the companies choosing. On the other hand companies that know their game sucks will only remove an embargo as late as possible to stop people cancelling pre orders etc.

Myst4077d ago

Yeah that's why I really hate them. Sometimes the pre-order incentives seem rather good so you want to; but often times it's hard to tell if that game will actually be good.

100% accurate, as always.

Roundtable: Games That Should Have Received a Sequel

Too many games aren't given a second shot. We at VGU choose which games we would love to see receive a sequel.

The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.

The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.

Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.

I still play AvP on PS3 to this day. That game had fun multiplayer too.
