Aliens Colonial Marines for Wii U is Better – PS3, Xbox 360, PC Are Last Minute Versions

Why is the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines is Delayed? And could it be possible that it is the better version that everybody was expecting and wanting?

I agree. The only things that could reasonably be improved are the graphics, specifically lighting and fog effects. I doubt animations and AI would improve.

The thing is, from what we know about the Wii U's GPU it SHOULD be able to do the lighting and fog effects like we saw in that infamous "demo". Some people call the Wii U seven year old tech, but it's not really. That GPU is two years old at most and heavily modified by Nintendo. The one place it should shine is in lighting, particle effects, and tessellation.

Will the Wii U version actually have those effects added back in? If the PC version released with them I would say it would be more likely. It really depends on whether or not the Wii U version is a thrown together afterthought or if for some reason Sega deemed it worthy of extra TLC. I'd say don't get your hopes up.

Do you realize that when you say that the gpu is heavily modified, its usually towards gimping it right? they'll disable rops, texture units, cores, etc. Usually they do this to save money, so dont go thinking its a better than usual 4000 series

We were trying to hype this game because everyone was hyping this game. The game itself was being anticipated by everyone. Wii U owners were hyping the fact that Randy Pitchford said it would be the best console version. Turns out the game is crap regardless. But Wii U owners weren't touting the game after we learned it was a big pile of crap. Only when everyone still thought the game was going to be amazing.

Of course we are going to hype something when the game looks good from the "demos" (which turned out to be doctored) and when we were told that our version was going to be the definitive game.

Sales of a system have to start somewhere. It is not like PS4/720 are going to have 30 million in 4 months. Not only that, but the gamepad is also what makes it the best version. The PS360 don't have the gamepad, and the Wii U does have more power than PS360. So one of only a few ports that developers are taking the time to take advantage of the Wii U. I say good. I rented the PS3 version of Alien, and it is not that bad, but I am picking up the Wii U version.

Well Zombi U did get some terrible reviews but it got some decent ones as well so the game isnt that bad.

However the majority of the reviews for Aliens are terrible so its pretty obvious that its a crap game. You really should accept that not every game on the Wii U is going to be great which goes for any other console as well.

Are you serious? The majority of the reviews for ZombiU are mixed to positive. It has a 77 on Metacritic with an even higher user score.

You're also admitting that you've based your assessment on Aliens strictly on reviews as oppose to your own perception. At least I have the decency to hold my tongue on how bad it is until after I've played it. I question your validity strictly because you've never played it and therefor probably don't fully understand why others have said it's crap.

On top of all of this there have been some mixed to positive reviews for Aliens and on top of ALL of this, the Wii U version is handled by a different developer separately from the other three. So 1) there is at least a chance that the Wii U version could be better, if only slightly (a chance, I'm not saying it's set in stone, so don't take my words out of context) and 2) there's still a chance I may like the game regardless of version.

I constantly bring this up, I actually liked Duke Nukem Forever for what it was and never got the hate for it (seriously, who complains about two weapons and rechargeable health in DNF and then praises them in Halo and CoD?). I'm halfway expecting the same thing here.

What was so bad about it exactly? It was a moderately decent shooter with some okay gags and stiff controls with some archaic design. I'm not saying it was a GREAT game. In fact it was the farthest thing from perfect. I'm just saying I don't see where all the hate came from. The game was decent at best and forgettable at worst. It wasn't worth half the stink people made about it.

If you cite the development process then you clearly don't know much about it. DNF wasn't truly developed in 15 years. The final build of the game may have been in development for 2 - 4 years because they kept having to start over from scratch multiple times since development began.

I'm REALLY glad someone typed out a comment like this. You should always base your assessment off of your OWN impressions, not that of reviews or general word of mouth.

Regardless of what I think of any game, I would implore anyone to really try the game out before judging it for the simple fact that there's no guarantee you'll just agree with the reviews.

But people should stop reading so much into review's and try games out for themselves. Played Skyrim, 96 Metacritic, I think it sucked. Played Playstation All Stars, 75 Metacritic, I think it's a lot of fun.

On saying this though, I have very little faith in Aliens Colonial Marines being any good, just looks like you're better off with Aliens VS Predator from 2010..

Skepticism doesn't mean you have to say 'no it won't be good', it means you think it probably won't be good with a chance it might be a bit better.

We'll see more evidence as time goes on. Some game site will break the embargo with their Wii U review simply because there are so many and it's a big issue many are interested in for quite a number of reasons.

The Wii U version of Aliens Colonial Marines has a different developer than the PS3/360/PC versions.

PS3/360/PC - Gearbox who outsourced to Time Gate Studios (Developed Section 8)
Wii U - Demiurge Studios

With a different developer the Wii U has the potential to be better than the others. I guess we will know more when it is released and reviews are posted.

I stand by that Metroid Other M was a fairly terrible experience. It has adequate at best gameplay combined with an egregiously bad story and forgettable characters.

The cutscenes would not be as large an issue if they had at least provided the option to skip them. The last thing I needed in a Metroid game is being forced to see Samus being an emotional wreck so long into her career. If the game had been a prequel, more than half of what was wrong with the story would have been far more acceptable. If the game had used the nunchuk, moving around in a 3D space and using missiles would not have felt so damn broken.

They left out how bad the FOV was.
Even a Bad FOV game can still be good but this one was not.
The Aliens jumping around all stupid was even worse! no fluid movement and the death animations were so bad. I saw an alien die and his corpse do a jump! SERIOUSLY IT JUMPED AFTER IT DIED!
It seems true that this game was thrown out in the hopes people would waste their money on a crap game like this.
If you think its a good game by all means buy it.

WII-U may be technically better than current gen consoles (not by much) but it's nowhere near as 'good' as any modern/decent PC - witness the DX10 mod + enhancements.

It's a decent/average game with a killer license and nice atmosphere. I have enjoyed playing every minute of it because I had no pre-conceptions going in.

That was the biggest run-on sentence I think I have ever seen. Nobody was brainwashed here. Wii U owners were optimistic of this game because Randy Pitchford said that it would be the best of the home console versions. He may still be telling the truth as we will have to wait to see the Wii U version for ourselves to see if it in fact the exact same game or if it has any enhancements for the Wii U version. The fact that it's an entirely different developer gives me a little hope that the game could be a little better than the PS360 versions, but I am not holding my breath for it.

Regardless, let's actually wait and see when it releases. No point in arguing about something we have no clue about is there?

This "tester" did not mention that and as it has not been released, the game is likely still under development. So, even if it didn't have some problems they could be fixed before it was released.

I don't see how it could be, from what I've heard/seen everything about the game was between bad and terrible. The Wii U is more powerful than the PS3 or the 360 which means they could improve the graphics a little, the textures, lighting etc. Maybe do something with the multiplayer but even then they're not exactly going to be able to make the story and the gameplay any longer/better. I wish the game was better on the Wii U or even better on all consoles but it can't be salvaged unless they start again which they won't, it's a shame I had high hopes for the game.

According to a Sega Tester its the worst. Also Gearbox used the funds that was suppose to be for this game instead they used it to make Borderlands 2.

No one here knows what is really going on. What we know is from a bunch of sources, and so far that's the only one to claim otherwise. Someone has some splain'in to do, we just don't know who.

Supposedly that guy never verified who he was, and then deleted his account. He said some things that contradicted what he was saying, but he also in other ways sounded very legit. Sometimes he threw a 'they' when it should have been 'We' out there, and stuff like that.

Fools would be two fold, those that hear enough and still buy it, or those that think they have wrongly and cancel a pre-order or make up their mind.

Right now, for the Wii U version, a clear minded individual cannot make up their mind yet, but they are skeptical and keeping a watchful eye after the other version being a debacle.

At some point we might find out it sucks, and at that point those that still buy the game would be foolish imo.

The game doesn't launch tomorrow, thus there is time to still figure out more as time goes by.

People get the whole point of analyzing things wrong. It's about seeing things as they truly are, not about how we want them to be.

I expect the game is probably trashy, but do I know that. No. Nothing has been shown to prove it is. We know the story of the other version is crappy, but part of that was simply in how it was presented with cut scenes missing and certain areas removed from the game, etc. That might not be the case with the Wii U version.

You have to know what you do know and what you don't know, about the pros and cons.

What's likely isn't certain, neither for the positive or negative. All we know is the game is being made by a different dev. It's later. It wasn't built with PS3/360 specs (especially ram) in mind.

We have subjective things like multiple people stating it's the best version. We have the rumor that the 'kick ass trailer' was really Wii U footage, which while not quite up to the demo footage, is a helluva lot closer than the PS3/360/PC version was.

Then on the other side we have that reddit leak guy who wasn't confirmed. Might not be true. Might indeed be true. Might indeed be partially true because the guy might be real, but might not know as much as he thinks he does...i.e. he might be partially wrong about some stuff, but right about other stuff.

The OP of that reddit post was about the entire situation, the Wii U version got a small blip. He might have just saw the minigames in action. So maybe those minigames suck and the Weyland mercs are there and other stuff that keeps it somewhat crappy, but other aspects are decently better.

So really we don't know much concretely, heard lots of rumors of which the validity of might be both high and low, and thus to we can guess it will suck, but that's all we can do.

No one knows what a coin flip will turn up as, in every coin flip, someone is guessing. When we see a review, that's when we'll get real info, and hopefully the person doing it has been following the plot lines so they can give us the answers we seek.

How are the PS360 and PC versions last minute? Aliens Colonial Marines was announced in 2008, way before the Wii U was released or even announced.

What I think happened in reality is that Gearbox threw Colonial Marines to the side and worked on it when they weren't working on anything of their own or anything that would have made them a much larger profit. They acquired Duke Nukem Forever, released Borderlands in 2009, Duke Nukem Forever in 2011, Borderlands 2 in 2012, they're finally releasing Colonial Marines? Why has it taken them this long to get the game out if it was any sort of priority at all?

If they didn't put any effort into the PS360 and PC versions announced years ago, then you're probably guaranteed to be disappointed about the Wii U version.

I feel sorry for Sega hiring Gearbox to do the game for them. If this wasn't going to be a priority for them, then they shouldn't have ever taken the job. Colonial Marines seems like it was nothing more than a cash grab for Gearbox.
