Harlem Shake Taking Game Developers by Storm

LoreHound.com writes: "Everyone needs a little break from the day now and then. There’s few better ways to relax, unwind and recharge than to flip through a few YouTube videos, which is exactly why some of the most ridiculous acts ever caught end up going viral. The latest craze? The Harlem Shake. This one may have already jumped the shark – thanks Dr. Oz – but game developers need a break as much as anyone.

Developer after developer have jumped in on the action to entertain fans and bust out some sick dance moves complete with props."

My old stomping ground is Harlem. I'm more than annoyed that the name of an old and existing dance can be stolen, turned into a new craze and take everything by storm, yet nobody is the wiser. Now everyone thinks this is the "Harlem Shake." My question is who made this up and why would they put Harlem in the name? Serious question. This whole thing confuses me.

Where the meme came from: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

These guys bit off of Filthy Frank, and a lotta people thought they had started it: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

raWfodog4081d ago (Edited 4081d ago )

I was thinking the same thing. That ain't the "Harlem Shake".

This is the real joint:

Of course everyone knows this already...

My_Name_BTW_Is_Dante4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

That's obviously a fake. THIS is the real one.

optimus4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

@fodog...this is true, i remember rap videos would do this waaay back when Bow Wow was still Li'l...although i think back then it was called the Harlem Shuffle...
The none-sense people are doing today was being done by Ellen on her show years ago but obviously someone somewhere attached a name to it and threw it on you-tube, in the same way of that other stupid fad called planking when it was just people laying down all over the place.

FamilyGuy4080d ago

Yeah this is my first time seeing this, when I read Harlem Shake I thought "That old dance P. Diddy use to have kids doing do?"

Another dumb meme for lots of insecure people to latch onto so they can communicate to one another...

Plus this came first and is much better:

Gazondaily4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

Why so serious?

Mate it's just people have a laugh. Where does the insecurity come into it? I think it's brilliant. It's just people messing around and letting loose; you should try it some time. Or not....its up to you....

Oh and I'm sorry, each to their and all but you really prefer that video with a bunch of naked men shaking on a bridge lol? Okaaay then!

KwietStorm_BLM4080d ago

I don't know about any insecure nonsense, but my problem is this is NOT the Harlem Shake. The Harlem Shake is a dance that started, surprisingly in Harlem, over 10 years ago. Its so old that people don't do It anymore. But what irks me is the fact that something can just have its name stolen and recreated into something completely different.

-Gespenst-4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

I'm talking about people in general, not just these guys. People just talk in memes nowadays, it's interminable. Nothing interesting to say and so desperate to be up on what's trending, meme's are perfect for this. It's just spoonfed, shallow, unsophisticated humour.

The video's meant to be funny btw. I suppose it's not much different, but it's edgier. It's disguised as an informative segment about a tourist destination, but then *SPOILER AHEAD* it gets overrun by naked men humping everything to the sound of the main theme from A Serbian Film.

And god, this "Why so Serious?" nonsense. Again, just talking in memes. Regurgitating super popular phrases from films spoonfed to them. People are just so lazy. Content to let the current of whats trendy drag them along without a single critical thought about it. In fact, "why so serious?" just nails it. People don't take anything seriously these days. Everything's fodder for the next meme- everything just gets hollowed out and made into an utterly empty, moronic joke. I blame consumerism, and the combined force of the internet and television. Everything's as unreal to people as the things they see on their screens.

In fact what I'm really ranting about are meme's in general. I'm only doing it here because this is like the fifth or sixth time Harlem Shake has intruded upon my day.

-Gespenst-4080d ago

Kweitstorm - Yeah that's annoying too. There's a passion and a beauty to dance, but this latest crap is just empty parody. It actually verges on the offensive that someone would reappropriate the name for this vulgar tripe.

Shadow Flare4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

That was quite an enjoyable rant that.

Have you ever heard of roflcopter? That would wind you right up. It's when you're Rolling On the Floor Laughing (rofl) and spinning in a circle on the floor like a helicopter
