IGN - Crysis 3: Giving Meaning to the FPS

IGN - ust how human is Crysis 3 going to be? According to various interviews from developer Crytek, this game will attempt to subvert meat-headed norms in first-person-shooters, and aim straight for the player’s emotional reactor core.

But it’s no easy thing to give an FPS real heart.

Crysis 3 is a violent video game offering apocalyptic fantasies of neo-fascistic corporations unhinged by the grim consequences of tech-timeline chaos-events, thrown together with jellyfish alien incursions and megalomaniacal boffinry. All this is folded into Discovery Channel visions of verdantly corrupted metropolata inhabited by warriors, not so much grizzled by combat, as smelted to mechanistic extremes.

Killzone 3 is the best looking shooter this generation, followed up by Killzone 2.
Crysis looks great, but generic and unoriginal when it come's to art and level design, wile better then Crysis 2.

JedMan19854079d ago

I have to very very much disagree with you. When you look at the tecture in killzone up close, you can see that it is all blurred out. That's how they made it work for this generation of consoles. Plus the PS3 and Xbox 360 both support directx 8.1 to 9.0. Crysis 1-3 support 9-11 on the PC. Killzone has nothing on Crysis.

wumster4079d ago

@DigitalSmoke

Come on dude. There is no way you think Killzone looks better than Crysis on PC.

You think Killzone isn't a generic shooter?

Allsystemgamer4079d ago

Sorry but you couldn't be more wrong.

http://www.gamespot.com/for...

There's tons of comparison there and kz3 has some o the blurriest textures possible. It's "art style" also mimics that of gears or war an pretty much every other modern game. They're great games but not the best looking shooter.

If your going by art style then halo 4 takes the cake. It has it's own look that no other game has.

plaZeHD4078d ago

We are talking about PC

InTheLab4078d ago

@allsystemgamer

You got it backwards dude. Killzone had its art style long before gears was a thing. Killzone 2 is the second game in the franchise....sbould be obvious with the 2. Further, gears even bites Killzone's story of who's really the villain.

As for the op...agreed on console but at medium settings, crysis 2 kills anything on console. One the posters mention d something about blurry textures as if its not the same on crysis. The difference is, most objects in KZ are actual things with physics and not painted on indestructible objects like the infected people in Crysis 2.

givemeshelter4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

@digital Smoke

Seems you only game on consoles...That remark gave it away

@InTheLab

Crysis 2 on the PC is a different animal altogether then its Console counter part. When you enable all settings, there is simply no console game that comes close to Crysis 2 on the PC. As for physics? That may apply to the console version but not to the PC version. Moreover KZ2 and KZ3 do not even use HDR or real time lighting.

MysticStrummer4078d ago

Jesus, PC people, make up your minds. Do PCs have generations or not? DigitialSmoke said "Killzone 3 is the best looking shooter this generation". Obviously he/she is talking about consoles. Such unbelievable insecurity on the PC side of gamers, if N4G is anything to go by.

"Crysis 3: Giving Meaning to the FPS"

This is why it sold bad on console. They need more mindless shooting like cod. This game should have been left on pc. Greater things would have come of it.

Dentenshi4079d ago

Most generic shooter this gen.

Tyre4079d ago (Edited 4079d ago )

It is THE LEAST generic shooter of all time, what a trolling comment. You just haven't played the Crysis Series, liar. Definitely the best shooter serie of this gen since 2007, everybody should start playing Crysis 1(digital download on PSN/XBL/Steam or pre-order Crysis 3 & get Crysis 1 for free) or just buy Crysis 3 and play 1 & 2 on a later date.

DigitalSmoke4079d ago

Crysis 1 was epic because it was open word.
Crysis 2 went another direction and got completely linear, you're trying to say that Crysis 3 is back to its roots?

I didnt think so.

Tyre4079d ago Show
givemeshelter4078d ago

Actually Crysis was more linear, however it was more open then most FPS shooters as you could finish certain parts of levels differently. It was linear, however more open then KZ2 and especially KZ3.

MysticStrummer4078d ago

Bioshock is much less generic than Crysis

dodo1014079d ago

Graphics looks great indeed.
But after what they done with crysis 2 ill skip the 3rd!

JedMan19854079d ago

All these console gamer's are so trapped with-in a world of no site. They think that a console game has better graphics then a "Directx 11" PC game? lol

thehitman4078d ago

I heard Dx11 wasnt even working when Crysis2 shipped and most PC gamers dont even have the specs to run Crysis3 at rates that would be huge improvements over consoles. With that said even if the game looks any better doesnt mean it plays better so you shouldnt be trapped with-in a world yourself.

MysticStrummer4078d ago

PC gamers compare their games to consoles more than console gamers compare their games to PC. You're trapped in a world where you think better graphics mean a different game altogether. PC versions can be better, BF3 is a perfect example, but it's not mainly because of the visuals.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

SonyStyled129d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa129d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno129d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast128d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial128d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!

Yep. Wait a couple of years and get this level of performance on a RTX 4070 or 4080 at a much lower price.

Killer73nova1276d ago

And wait a couple more years for rtx 5070 or 5080 at a much much lower price

Yung-T1276d ago (Edited 1276d ago )

That headline is a tad misleading.
The rig stated in that YouTube video is extremely high-end (ryzen 3950x oc, 32gb etc) and utilizing special water-cooling solutions, loops with pumps etc.

This rig easily costs 5k+ and a normal pc with a RTX 3090 wouldn't get close to these framerates or sustainable temperatures.

Aggesan1276d ago

Who has a "normal" pc with a RTX 3090?

Yung-T1276d ago (Edited 1276d ago )

There's still a difference between a high-end GPU+CPU and a custom-made water cooling system including a Waterloop&pumps etc though, it allows for much higher performance due to the better temperature management that would fry the GPU&CPU with normal builds.

lonewolf101276d ago

That's why people need to read the articles, most headlines are just to get you to click.

Rainbowcookie1276d ago

You would think yes, but honestly does it happen often 🤣 enough

I_am_Batman1276d ago (Edited 1276d ago )

Most of the threads of the 3950x were barely utilized and none of the games that were tested allocated more than ~12.5GB of system memory. Gaming at 8k is pretty much as GPU bound as you can get so you won't need a water cooled high-end CPU or 32GB of memory.

Psychotica1276d ago (Edited 1276d ago )

How does the cost of the PC make the headline misleading?

Father__Merrin1276d ago

Mega powerful video card but the games you can play on that card are all available elsewhere. I want to see compelling pc only goty material titles ASAP

Psychotica1276d ago

And where else can you run them in 8K or even in 4K with the same level of performance?

averagejoe261276d ago

Who cares? Nobody has 8k screens and the majority don't even have 4k screens.

This push for pointless high resolution is ruining progress. Give us better framerates, lighting, physics, etc. Stop wasting power on needles 8k.

lonewolf101276d ago

@averagejoe26

There are people with 8k monitors though.

Bender65021276d ago

And still we can't escape 30fps.

JCOLE131951276d ago

I mean given the fact the games are running at 8K it doesn’t surprise me...

MrDead1276d ago

DLSS 2.0 no doubt has a big part in this too, The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding run like a dream on my 3080, 4k ultra set to 60fps no drops or stutters and the system runs very quiet. Playing Borderlands 3 on badass settings, Red Dead or Division 2 on 4k ultra all run great (Red Dead has a few drops below 60fps) but my PC is working a lot harder on games that don't utilise DLSS, my room warms up nicely when playing those games.
