Aliens: Colonial Marines Review | X360A

X360A: "Building a game around James Cameron’s 1986 sci-fi classic should be the recipe for a tense, action-packed shooter bursting with atmosphere and scares. Instead we get one of the biggest disappointments in recent years. Aliens: Colonial Marines is a shameful, at times broken, and consistently woeful waste of potential."

Looks like SOMEONE didn't pay their review dues...

id argue that a game with this level of quality to get a 4 is a more than a paid for review.

Its a 0/10 for me, its not a game....its not finished, its a disgusting festering mutated abortion, lines of aborted code floating around wondering what to do with itself while it pauses for a moment and you bemusedly shoot it in the face and put it out of its misery.

Well I liked it on the ps3, yeah it had some issues and it did turn out to be a generic fps but i Thought it was a good game, the only let own for me was the ending which I thought was ver poor

It's funny, I played it on PS3 and I think it's actually being TOO unfairly rated too. It IS a generic FPS through and through, but it doesn't offend the senses like some overhyped stuff we've seen in recent years.

It does a job, nothing more, BUT for me as a massive aliens fan it does have the atmosphere, the music, even Michael Frikin Biehn popping up (voice). So it was actually enjoyable but at the same time 'meh' and I see a lot of bad design decisions and wasted chances. Having an NPC with you too much is an atmosphere killer. Go it alone in a game like this for max tension.

The problem is the gameplay wasn't great, you know the shooty shooty parts, but for me I enjoyed just being in the environments anyway, visiting locations from the film and being in that universe.

This is probably why some think it's ok and others hate it. If you do NOT like aliens at all you won't like this. If you love the movies you may enjoy this but it won't set your world alight.

I think it was probably a 5 or 6 out of 10 game not all this 2 out of 10 we are seeing. That's some BS right there (almost as much BS as the preview screenshots HAHA!)

The environments died in the middle of the game too. The first mission and the last two missions had fantastic environments. The rest of the game was terrible. A lot of cut and paste areas, it looked like something pieced together with stock assets in an already made engine.

It'd be better to have sparks flying, or random events (like they did later in the game). The environment on its own should scare you, and it didnt AT ALL. Look at Dead Space or Doom for good atmosphere, you can't say Aliens came anywhere close to that until the last few missions.

I'm not saying there isn't POTENTIAL in this game, but thats all it was. It was like a rough draft to great ideas and instead of actually developing those ideas they went "meh just throw that out there"

Roundtable: Games That Should Have Received a Sequel

Too many games aren't given a second shot. We at VGU choose which games we would love to see receive a sequel.

The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.

The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.

Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.

I still play AvP on PS3 to this day. That game had fun multiplayer too.
