Angry Birds Trilogy Sells Over One Million Units, Despite Costing £30

Jeffrey Matulef: ''Angry Birds Trilogy has sold over one million units worldwide, publisher Ubisoft has announced.

Given the series' ridiculous popularity, that may not sound like a lot, but remember, this isn't the 69p Angry Birds that we all know and love, but rather the outlandishly priced £30 / $40 retail version on Xbox 360, PS3 and 3DS (note: the 3DS version is a little cheaper at £24 / $30).''

You have to have one hand free to play the game.

just admit it.....you like it. I play it on the PSP/PS3 myself.

blitz06234081d ago

I don't. Not even on my phone

badz1494081d ago

I play it all the time and the support that Rovio give the game is 2nd to none, I mean there will always be new levels and new spin off which are all available through FREE updates to keep people playing and I enjoy all these for FREE on my Android phones and also on PC with Bluestacks!

see...FREE! so why the hell do people pay for it when it's $40?? seriously people are way dumber then I thought they are!

kirbyu4081d ago

Not everyone here is an Angry Birds hater. They're just questioning how this game sold a million copies when you can get all 3 games for free.

I think there's a logical explanation though. They're are kids who like it but don't have a phone. And they're are kids who do, but wanted it simply because they heard Angry Birds was on 3DS or whatever.

klecser4080d ago

1) Not everyone has a smart phone.

2) Not everyone has an iDevice.

3) Not everyone has ready access to a computer

Are you people really this THICK, that you can't imagine these things?

badz1494080d ago

but they somehow have a PS3 or 360? in this day and age, if you have a PS3 and 360, you probably have AT LEAST 1 of the things you listed!

The casual market continues to kick the rest of us gamer's in the twig & berries with their ignorance and indifference.

darthv724081d ago (Edited 4081d ago )

that a game cant be simple yet addictive and fun to play?

then again, im sure the 'core' felt threatened by Pac-Man back in the day.

@below..but it ISNT you that is buying it so why does it matter so much?

Obviously not everyone buys the same things but they are buying it for some reason or another. Perhaps they dont have a tablet or phone. Perhaps they like the use of a real controller. Perhaps its their choice.

Or perhaps you just need to not worry about it and play something else that suits you.

SnakeCQC4081d ago

but its available on ios for a fraction of that or android for free

SilentNegotiator4081d ago (Edited 4081d ago )

No, the implication is that getting the price jacked up a crazy amount and people buying it anyway will create precedent on the way things are handled in general in the industry and have major effects on us.

How could you misinterpret that without being in super ultra defense mode?

darthv724081d ago

that's not half bad.

Neither is the game on the PSP.

S.U.D.M...activate!

SilentNegotiator4081d ago

Actually, I played it on the PSP and it's terrible compared to on a phone. There are stages where you LITERALLY can't pull off the same moves because of the way it "clicks" from angle to angle using the control nub.

And fine, "Super ultra defense mode" wasn't clever, but if I had to come up with new ways of expressing incredible magnitude for irrationally defending something for you, I would have to do it for everyone that did it. And then I'd be inventing new terms all day long.

I'm not dogging on the game, I'm upset that people actually paid that price for it, A MILLION PEOPLE!!!!

It's a .99c game on IOS & $40 on consoles......

The game its self is a great toilet game, but in no way worth $40, regardless of how many versions are packed on a disc.

darthv724081d ago

i actually enjoy the PSP version. The controls are better (IMO) because of the analog slider.

It may not have all the levels of the expansion packs but its still fun to play. Even on the toilet (as you say).

Killzoner994081d ago

You see how stupid gamers are these days. They'll spend money on this garbage game and not buy a Vita. I'm at a loss for words.

NastyLeftHook04081d ago

good, we need more original ip's like this. i hope the industry starts adopting this way of gaming. also, angry birds is underrated and deserves more.

Snookies124081d ago

Please tell me that is sarcasm... Underrated? I can't go to a store WITHOUT seeing something Angry Birds. It's EVERYWHERE, like an infection... It's just becoming annoying lately with all the advertising and marketing it gets.

NastyLeftHook04081d ago

no its not sarcasm, i thought ico and shadow of the colossus were original but this...omg it takes the take.

Looks like tentons has been drinking again!

DigitalAnalog4081d ago (Edited 4081d ago )

I agree, I would definitely drop down $60 EACH for a temple run 1 & 2 on the PS3 & Vita @ 1080p. Also, I would be more inclined to pay $80 for a Pocket Planes port provided they give me 1000 in-game cash that would last me 20 min. And yes, I want Infinity Blade port for the Vita with full console price at $60 as well. Extremely worth the money.

Innovation man, I love dem casual games. Bring it on.

Series_IIa4081d ago

Dungeon Hunter Alliance was £30 on the Vita which was basically a port from the iOS...

But let me guess, this is different right?

DigitalAnalog4080d ago

"But let me guess, this is different right?"

No, it isn't. I would gladly pay $60 for Dungeon Hunter Alliance. Personally, the $30 price on the Vita is a steal. Honest. I'd buy one for the PS3 WITHOUT the cross-buy. Cause you know, I support new IP! :)

Rockefellow4081d ago

Boy, you'll be at one bubble before you know it!

Nate-Dog4081d ago

Proof that gamers in general are terribly stupid consumers.

Who honestly found this news surprising? ;)

ZodTheRipper3664d ago

Me neither, I contributed to that success :D

micx3664d ago

No one, but it's nice to hear. :)
Angry Birds surprised me though.

Neonridr3664d ago

yeah, it's hard to justify paying for that game when you can get it for like $1 on smartphones. So I am very shocked to see it was the best selling Vita game over the month of March.

MASTER_RAIDEN3664d ago

Infamous is set to take the number one spot of any next gen game released thus far. Im calling it.

candy_mafia3664d ago (Edited 3664d ago )

Infamous SS is cheaper to buy on PSN than it is in retail stores by $10.

So I'm totally unsurprised it's doing so well :)

micx3663d ago

All Digital games should be cheaper.

Hicken3664d ago

I'll say it again: the PS4 is more geared toward digital. This means it's likely for big titles to see proportionately more digital sales than their Xbox counterparts.

micx3663d ago

That's true, PSN has a better digital support, especially if preloading is considered.

isa_scout3664d ago

Just got the plat trophy 5 minutes ago. Def deserves all the sales it gets. Not as good as the other 2 infamous games but def the best launch window game I've played yet.
