PS4 and Xbox 720: next-gen is all about the games

VG247: Starting February 20, all bets suggest we’re finally going to get a look at some next-generation games. But why wait? Let’s ruin the surprise by outlinging what we know of the 2013-2014 line-up.

... and you can bet your bottom dollar Sony will keep making new IPs with great variety across many genres no matter what. I don't know about the other...more Kinect games maybe?

AngelicIceDiamond4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

Or maybe, just maybe MS is creating new hardcore Ip's for the next box as well.

@Sonic The past few years don't really justify ALL future plans for Xbox. MS still plans on releasing new Ip's, 4 unheard of Ip's apparently. This E3 MS will showcase new hardcore titles.

What I'm worried about is how long in the 720's life cycle will MS introduce new Ip's. this gen it was 5 years, I have a feeling next gen will be a very long generation. And MS couldn't afford to release hardcore games for 5 years of the 720's life's span.

If the past few years are anything to go by, I wouldn't count on it.

"The past few years don't really justify ALL future plans for Xbox."

Just judging from the amount of core IP's Microsoft has pushed for in the past few years. And from what Microsoft upper heads are saying. I'm just having my doubts. It seem Microsoft seems far more concerned about focusing on turning the Xbox brand into a casual "family friendly entertainment center" that focuses more on Kinect and Apps than anything else.

http://www.techspot.com/new...

"Xbox isn't a gaming console. Xbox is a family entertainment center. It's a place to socialize. It's a place to watch TV.

It's the only system where you are the controller. Your voice, your gestures, your body.

Maria, you go to your average 15-year-old boy, and he will say "I'll take an Xbox." I want that average 15-year-old girl as excited about the Kinect

Ballmer has already said that PC support is coming. Here he's just reaffirming that the Kinect is Microsoft's answer to the Wii, and the casual gaming market in general."

http://www.tomsguide.com/us...

"According to the company, owners now spend more time watching TV and listening to music through the console than playing games with it."

etc. etc.

Especially with Nintendo out of the way for going for the casuals. I wouldn't be TOO surprised if this year's E3. Microsoft tries to push for more Kinect and Apps in general for their next Xbox. Hence why I'm not too excited for those supposed 4 IP's.

Seems to me that Microsoft wants the Xbox to be the next gen Wii.

With that First party stable they've already got me convinced you know they'll pump out the exclusives like always and start new ip just like every gen

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

ps4 for sure! We will see what MS does. Can't wait for MS & bungie to reveal destiny! I want to see what I will get on ps4. Think they are supposed to reveal it the 17th. I am interested to play my first bungie game..

what does this article saying about the ps3? . shame shame shame on fanboys and girls .

Hicken4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

What are you talking about? Not one comment made before yours- and, as of my writing this, not one SINCE- mentions the PS3. And only one- written AFTER your comment- mentions the 360.

As for the article, current practices and comments by Sony and Microsoft give you some indication of what they'll be about next gen. One of them seems decidedly more focused on the games than the other.

Edit: That still doesn't make any sense. Just because it's one way one gen doesn't mean much for the next.

That said, you could have added the 360, Wii, and Wii U into that comment of yours. But, as you said, "shame shame shame on fanboys and girls." In this case, that refers to you.

BullyMangler4080d ago

the next systems are about the games. so what is this article saying about the ps3 and 360 ?? that those systems were not about the games ??

unchartedxplorer4080d ago

Well obviously its about the games. What's the point in a gaming console if it can't play games!

What, I thought this was dead after Shawn Layden left Sony. I would definitely pick this up if it's true. I have such great memories of playing the MediEvil games on PS1 and I played the PS4 remake. Such a great and underrated series.

A rumored game at a rumored show.. we’ve seen it all

TiredGamer4h ago

Agreed. The first remake was stylistically beautiful and a very noticeable improvement over the original in every regard. And it was reasonably priced and sustainably developed (i.e. not some mega big budget game that was do or die for the developer).

Thanks for the spoilers... :(

RonnySins5h ago

Another day, another remake. Ugh!

SonyStyled5h ago

If you played the original print I can see your annoyance. I didn’t and probably a lot others the past 20 years.

Was it any good? Would you suggest playing the original print of 2, or suggest the remake? Just wondering because I didn’t play the originals as I had an n64 at the time

TiredGamer4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

I played the first remake and absolutely loved it. The quality of life and control improvements were very noticeable. I tried playing the PS1 original and gave up halfway through at the janky controls.

Expect the same for part 2. The PS1 version is janky as heck, but I would gobble up an improved remake day one.

The beauty of this kind of stuff is that I find myself enjoying more retro gaming today, so a relatively low budget classic remake (call it a single-A release) is exactly what is missing from first party releases in the modern age. I don’t want every game to be an unsustainable AAAA endeavor that is just overwhelming in every regard. Truly miss when game releases could be modest-sized surprises and still be commercially successful/viable.

Bring on more quality classic remakes!

Knightofelemia5h ago

Such a good series I also wish Sony would dust off Wild Arms and Legend of Dargoon even the Legend series needs to see the light again.

Omegasyde4h ago

My bets on new Socom and/or Wolverine (since Deadpool 3 is dropping in the summer).

I think one after this state of play will be PS5 pro preorder

SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM!
But please not like Socom 4
