I loved Tales of Vesperia.. Valkyria Chronicles was awesome too..

Reverent4080d ago

I feel like such a nerd for being as obsessed with JRPG's, anime, and all that stuff as I am lol.

Greyslash4080d ago

Well, I mean, it's nothing to be ashamed about, if I'm not playing games or watching anime at home, I'm somewhere reading manga/comics or playing a handheld. It's good to be a nerd.

DivineAssault 4080d ago

i too must be a nerd then cuz i love them.. Matter of fact, its probably my favorite genre of games.. action/adventure is a close 2nd..

Kalowest4080d ago

Its a "SRPG" that's made in Japan, so technically it is, lol.

knifefight4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

Yeah it is.
One of the best, too.

InsaneChronos4080d ago

No, Valkyria Chronicles is JRPG. If it isn't, then Xenoblade is not JRPG too.

Persistantthug4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

Just sayin.

And I'm Still waiting for Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 on the PS3. (f'in Sega)

Hicken4079d ago

Being strategic doesn't stop it from being a JRPG. The FFT games are STILL JRPGs.

Vagrant Story, Nier, Final Fantasy VII, Valkyrie Profile, Tales of the Abyss, Ni no Kuni, Monster Hunter, Pokemon. All VERY different, ALL JRPGS. The Top 10 list, itself, proves just how different games within the same genre can be. I mean, how much does TWEWY have in common with Resonance of Fate?

Hell, I don't think the Souls games are JRPGs, as they have a decidedly Western feel to them.

Not a bad list, overall. I don't know if I'd have the same order, but I'm having a hard time saying any of the games listed don't belong. Maybe stick a Disgaea in there in lieu of one of the Tales games? Lost Odyssey is missing, though.

animegamingnerd4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

that is a hard i really loved xneoblade, last story, and tales of graces f equally but i have yet to play tales of veseperia, valkyria chronicles, ni no kuni and lost odyssey.

BanBrother4080d ago

Have not played Valkyria Chronicles :(
Tales of Vesperia, Ni No Kuni and Lost Odyssey are some of the best. Pretty amazing.

Is it just me or do fans of JRPG's seem more mature? I'm not saying other people are immature, not playing that card, but I just find the comment sections for JRPG related stuff is usually more civil than anything else. Could also be that most people I know that play JRPG started years ago.

A lot of new gamers miss ojt on this stuff, as they probably think of 'Skyrim' when some mentions RPG.

P.S: I just beat Enchanted Arms again today. It isn't the best JRPG, but I really love some parts of it. I heard the English voices for like 10 seconds and I literally quit'out of the game so I could change it.......DAMN YOU MAKATO!!

Blank4080d ago

IMHO I feel a large gap in that list persona 4 golden can easily fill!

knifefight4080d ago

Probably not on there because it's a port from last generation.

Granted, Trails in the Sky is a port too, but NA didn't get the original version of Trails so a lot of people don't know that.

izumo_lee4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

Really enjoyed Legend of Heroes for the PSP/Vita, hope they localize the new one as well. Ni no Kuni was a welcome surprise for tradionalist in the genre. Persona 4 showed that a great game will always be a great game no matter how old it is.

For me personally i had a lot of fun with the lesser known JRPGs like the Neptunia's, Agarest Wars, Atelier series, stuff like that. The big names like Tales of Graces & Disgaeas were also great.

Hopefully next gen we will continue to see a lot more JRPGs & be at least revelant to be on sales charts more often like they use to be.

TongkatAli4080d ago

Persona 4 Golden is so epic. It was my first experience with that game and it was the Vita version : )

Kalowest4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

WTF... Where's Lost Odyssey?

Bimkoblerutso4080d ago

Yeah, definitely needs to be pretty far up there. Also I loved the Tales games, but I think I'd move them a little ways down the list next to some of those other selections. Xenoblade, Ni No Kuni, The World Ends With You, and Valkyria Chronicles were just...so damned good.

Tales Of Graces Ƒ Retro Review – Holding Out For a Hero

Gary Green said: Namco Bandai heard the call of many fans asking for the PlayStation release of Tales of Graces which was originally released seemingly exclusively for the Wii back in 2009. If you’re acquainted with the Tales series then Graces f won’t be something entirely new to you, yet if you’re a newcomer then you’ll find a plethora of gameplay mechanics and nuances that distinguish this series from other JRPGs. While the game finds itself following the traditional archetype of JRPGs, such as a somewhat clichéd story, Graces has something to offer to both veterans and newcomers alike.

Where the Heck is Ni No Kuni 3, Mun?

Matt from We Game Daily writes: "Cross Worlds isn’t going away. It’s making a small fortune, particularly in Asian markets, so there’s no reason for Level-5 to pull the plug. That said, there’s no real reason why a full PC/console sequel can’t be developed alongside efforts to support Cross Worlds."

While Ni no Kuni 3 would be cool, if it was like the first game, where is Dark Cloud 3 and Rogue Galaxy 2?

phoenixwing93d ago

I thought the dev recently went mobile and Japan only. They shut down their American offices. So don't expect anything for consoles

shinoff218393d ago (Edited 93d ago )

I swear they just announced a few new games.

phoenixwing93d ago

I stand corrected then. Never heard about these games and also i just remember ni no kuni online being mobile only.

Michiel198992d ago

they said a loooooong time ago that Level 5 was working on a new installment but there has been no news since afaik. I just hope that they take more inspiration from 1 than 2, especially when it comes to the story.

thorstein92d ago

Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds is the mobile game you're thinking of.

It looks amazing but I don't like to play mobile games.

Yeah the sequel was okay but had nothing on the first game, especially the battle system.

The story just didn't have that charm and even the twist at the end of the game wasn't really anything cool like Wrath of the White Witch.

Also the fact there was like ZERO mention of Oliver or his adventures in the game, no references, nothing was such weird. It's set a hundred or so years after but still, I'd have expected to seen some throw backs. I think we just got like a temple with his statue in it or something.

goldwyncq92d ago

If you want more Oliver, just watch the movie.

shinoff218393d ago

Fking word. I've been hoping for this for quite some time.

melons92d ago

The premium games didn't sell amazingly, right?

shinoff218392d ago

Not to sure. They should of though. They were pretty good. I like both.

Michiel198992d ago

yeah, especially outside of japan. They should have released on pc at the same time as the ps3 version or a short time after.

Inverno92d ago

They should've worked with Ghibli to put out a proper movie. Should've also made a Pokemon-esque spin-off rather than make Yokai Watch. If they do make a third game they gotta work with Ghibli!

Nihon Falcom wants to "eventually" re-release Trails in the Sky for modern platforms

While yesterday Nihon Falcom announced the latest The Legend of Heroes title for Japan, during their investor Q&A it was revealed that the company plans to re-release The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky for modern platforms - though they don't quite know what form such a re-release might take.

Vits121d ago

If they released a physical collection of the original Trails of Sky, I would get it in a heartbeat.

shinoff2183121d ago

Hell yea. They've been killing it the last few years. Appreciate it

Relientk77121d ago

I hope so! I would totally get it

LiViNgLeGaCY120d ago

They should. They're freaking great games.
