Ni No Kuni may have re-sparked interest - but quality JRPGs never really went away. Rice Digital round up this generation's finest entries in the genre.
Gary Green said: Namco Bandai heard the call of many fans asking for the PlayStation release of Tales of Graces which was originally released seemingly exclusively for the Wii back in 2009. If you’re acquainted with the Tales series then Graces f won’t be something entirely new to you, yet if you’re a newcomer then you’ll find a plethora of gameplay mechanics and nuances that distinguish this series from other JRPGs. While the game finds itself following the traditional archetype of JRPGs, such as a somewhat clichéd story, Graces has something to offer to both veterans and newcomers alike.
Matt from We Game Daily writes: "Cross Worlds isn’t going away. It’s making a small fortune, particularly in Asian markets, so there’s no reason for Level-5 to pull the plug. That said, there’s no real reason why a full PC/console sequel can’t be developed alongside efforts to support Cross Worlds."
While Ni no Kuni 3 would be cool, if it was like the first game, where is Dark Cloud 3 and Rogue Galaxy 2?
They should've worked with Ghibli to put out a proper movie. Should've also made a Pokemon-esque spin-off rather than make Yokai Watch. If they do make a third game they gotta work with Ghibli!
While yesterday Nihon Falcom announced the latest The Legend of Heroes title for Japan, during their investor Q&A it was revealed that the company plans to re-release The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky for modern platforms - though they don't quite know what form such a re-release might take.
If they released a physical collection of the original Trails of Sky, I would get it in a heartbeat.
I loved Tales of Vesperia.. Valkyria Chronicles was awesome too..
that is a hard i really loved xneoblade, last story, and tales of graces f equally but i have yet to play tales of veseperia, valkyria chronicles, ni no kuni and lost odyssey.
IMHO I feel a large gap in that list persona 4 golden can easily fill!
Really enjoyed Legend of Heroes for the PSP/Vita, hope they localize the new one as well. Ni no Kuni was a welcome surprise for tradionalist in the genre. Persona 4 showed that a great game will always be a great game no matter how old it is.
For me personally i had a lot of fun with the lesser known JRPGs like the Neptunia's, Agarest Wars, Atelier series, stuff like that. The big names like Tales of Graces & Disgaeas were also great.
Hopefully next gen we will continue to see a lot more JRPGs & be at least revelant to be on sales charts more often like they use to be.
WTF... Where's Lost Odyssey?
