Is A New PS Vita Model On The Cards?

MasonicGamer.com: Sony could be planning to announce an upgraded New PS Vita Model very soon.

The supposed new model will be 4G, and a FW update will be released along the device with tons of new and requested features, including new ways to organize apps in folders.

There are plenty of games, more than I can play actually. And this year we already know of three from XSEED, plus all of Sony's 1st party stuff - Killzone, Soul Sacrifice (can't wait). Phantasy Star Online 2 should be out soonish and Gungho will likely bring Picoto Knights and a few others over. Furthermore NISA hasn't announced any Vita stuff yet and there are a tonne of JRPGs sitting in the East that I'm sure they will pick up.

Now, moving on. More to the point of the article, I'm hoping for a larger screen - not pixel density or resolution, just another inch or inch and a half. Been piddling about on some of these 7 inch tablets or 5.5 Phablets lately and while they certainly are mostly bad for gaming, the size is nice.

Oh, and a bigger, better battery is a must. A proper gorilla glass screen instead of that cheap plastic one would also be appreciate. All the outputs (that should have been in the first iteration, HDMI out particularly) are good. Finally, REMOTE PLAY. You can do it with ANY PS3 game on a HACKED PSP. There's no reason why the Vita shouldn't be able to do this. If they check off at least 1/2 those features, I'll upgrade.

i think the problem isnt the games, there is a quantitative amount of games on the vita already. Problem is the quality of the game. in other words, people are waiting for that killer app. sadly it hasnt appeared yet, so far i think killzone mercenaries is.

Damn straight, who would want to have a separate bill for 4G on vita in addition to your regular cell phone bill unless you just want to get raped by AT&T. Just lower the price to $200 and it should see increased sales in the same way as the 3ds did when they wised up. Besides it only costs $150 to make a vita. Also, we need bigger memory cards.

If true could they include internal storage. Its 2013 and we have machines with no storage now? Or include 8 GB 4 is a joke. And a 64 GB option.

For me personally I hate OLED screens. I wish they went with IPS screen LCD but that's preference. So I can live with that. I want one but I don't buy tech earlier as future versions are always better.

Be happy? If they did then this device would be an extraordinary fail. So Sony should be happy they didn't use a low resolution yet in 2013 qHD screens are kinda low resolution anyway.

OLED cons (there's variance per unit but it's pretty common):

Vertical Lines
Black Splotches
Oversaturated Colors
Black Clipping/Crushing
Poor performance in high ambient lighting
Questionable whites
Questionable lifespan (dig around XDA, GNotes turning yellow after 6 months)

At least the it has power efficiency.. Very important for a portable device.

I hope the next VITA has a better screen.. if OLED improvements completely overtakes the higher end LCDs for mobile devices ACROSSS the board, sure, use that.. if not.. stick with a nicely calibrated and brighter IPS LCD.

Only thing it really needs is a better camera. If they make it smaller that'll just be a waste. I rarely use my 3g since everywhere you go there's wifi. So I couldn't care less about 4g. The poor lense on the camera though... gotta go.

Better battery life, built in memory( maybe 1-2gb),and better camera would be nice to have. If all it adds is a hdmi output then i guess that would be cool, but dunno if its worth trading mine in plus paying extra for it.

the Video out is one of the features I want the most! and with this, Dualshock 3 connectivity.

With the PS4 showing up on the 20th, they should make it like the wii U, that you can stream your game on your vita. I would buy one right away.

More rams tend to equate to faster load times as well. At least that happened with the RAM increase with the PSP 2000/3000 from 1000.

No. So stop asking, it was proven a thousand times those stupid patent photos are just the Dev kit PS Vita's.

So what other source are you journalists pulling this from because the only rumor that had any good credibility to this was that patent which was proven to be fake and just the patent for the dev kits.

I can't stand the logic in this, 4G would drain the Vita so fast, people already complain about it's battery life then on top of that having a separate 4G plan just for your Vita really? When you could simply tether the thing through a previous 4G connection you probably already have.

Thinking about that I highly doubt Sony will want to make any sort of contract with AT&T again, they screwed themselves probably out of millions wasting their money on 3G models.

There is nothing that points to any of that making sense for Sony to just randomly make a 4G vita all the sudden, a year after the first ones were released. Like I said it will be good 2-3 years before we see any new versions of the Vita and they will probably be the same just slimmer. Or they will make one with internal storage later on or something.. 4G would be a huge waste of resources for them right now, I just don't see it happening..

I will gladly eat my words if they release something so stupid especially right now of all times.
