An open letter to anyone considering making a James Bond video game

With Skyfall's release on DVD, The National Post's game columnist argues that it's time to reimagine what a video game Bond should be.

"...We’re drawn to James Bond because of the man he is. But how has nearly every major Bond-branded game released in recent memory treated this fascinating fictional fellow?

As an arm with a gun."

I don't think you'll ever get a good Bond game especialy with Activision holding the rights to it now

However

With NaughtyDog focusing on cinematic like games I would like their next game to be a James Bond type game, like what Uncharted was to Indiana Jones.

The Main hero - James Bond
The boss - M
Female companions - Bond girls

It could work if they did it right and the best part about it is if they started with a young talented singer, ND could do their own "Bond Themes" for the games. If it becomes popular enough by the third game they could get a well known singer to sing the third games theme.

Just saying it would be a great idea in my opinion, you might not get a good James Bond game but least we'll get the next best thing.

They did a good job with Goldeneye on the Wii.

But the thing is, dev companies, from EA to Activision felt that Goldeneye on the N64 sold because of the Bond license; It didn't it sold because it was a great game, that happened to have the Bond license..Big difference.

Many devs fall into this trap. The license is always secondary, dependent upon the quality of the game.

Root4088d ago

See I just saw the Wii Goldeneye as a cash in, taking something popular and trying to sell a game by using nostalgia.

It didn't feel like Goldeneye, it never even came close to feeling what I do when I play it on my N64. I mean Daniel Craig was the Bond for starters

Anyway hopefully someone will do a Spy type game...I hope it will be NaughtyDog though

Gr814088d ago

Actually play the game? I can see how it may be viewed that way, but honestly it was a quality game. I appreciated it because it WASN'T trying to be a remake of a classic N64 game, but a totally new and fresh take on it.

Root4088d ago

Yeah I played it and was turned off from it

You don't take a classic game like Goldeneye and try to do your own thing to it. It's a slap to the face

Whats the point calling it Goldeneye when it isn't Goldeneye

007: Bloodstone was very good. Give it a go if you haven't already. Hidden gem imo.

'I mean Daniel Craig was the Bond for starters '

Yes, he's Bond for the next several years. Only an idiot would think they wouldn't make a James Bond game with anyone else but Daniel Craig as Bond.

Oh sorry, it's Root talking. Forget I was here Root. Carry on.

Who cares when he became Bond, it means that Pierce Brosnan would of been Bond back then.....so why didn't they use him then

Oh yeah didn't think about that did you

@Mike

LOL you can talk I said the same thing to you on another article because you do exactly the same

MikeMyers...AKA The N4G hypocrite

RuperttheBear4088d ago

'Who cares when he became Bond'

The people making the films, and who own the ip.

In other words, not you.

Naughty Dog could do it justice I think.

tigertron4088d ago

I'd quite like a game like EON, although Bloodstone was a pretty decent game, it didn't feel as polished or as good as EON.

I would love an EON version of Goldeneye with Pierce Brosnan. Obviously not an FPS, because we already have that on the N64, and an insult in the form of Goldeneye Reloaded with Daniel Craig...

ChocolateGiddyUp4088d ago (Edited 4088d ago )

Agreed muchly, except for the Timothy Dalton thing. An RPG-ish Bond game sounds amazing.

I just wish these people adapting the movies into games would actually watch the damn movies first. From Russia With Love was an okay game, but it was glorious for a James Bond nerd when they stayed close to the film. When Red Grant stepped off the train alive, I got pissed off and quit playing.

007 Legends just looked depressing.

Naughty Dog doing a bond game would so incredible!
Sony make this happen!

Swiggins4088d ago

Yeah, that's not gonna happen...ever....at all....

stage884087d ago

Calm down, Debbie Downer. Just because your console wouldn't get a look in...

Plagasx4088d ago

I wish we could get another game like Everything or Nothing and Nightfire :(

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
