Aliens: Colonial Marines Demo Allegedly Lied To Customers

In one of the biggest surprises in the last few days, the recently released Aliens: Colonial Marines is receiving almost universally negative reviews across all major websites. It is practically unheard of for a AAA title to receive such universally bad press upon release with all but a handful of reviews displaying either middling or extremely negative scores. What is more surprising however is the apparent duplicity in early promotions, and the stark contrast in actual content.

the demo was miles above the final release and nowhere as good as to say it was prerendered

this is a scam

a gameplay demo represents the softwarein its current state, its not a target render or a cg video. the final version HAS to match the gameplaydemo or exceed it.

this is called false advertising of false product quality.

how would you feel seeing a smartphone made out of high qulaity components and once it arrives its made completly out of cheap plastic.......

At the time the Demo was made...it wasn't a lie. After it the game was rebuilt and the demo became redundant.
Gearbox have to set their ****ing priorities

Borderlands 2 was their priority over Aliens, and imo, its the better trade-off.

Still disappointed with this, and I have sympathy for those who pre-ordered this crap.

The game went from "high" PC settings to low settings, it just doesn't look like a close to maximized current gen title, especially given its reputation (the demo looked amazing). The added textures, lighting, and shaders looked to have gotten stripped from final release, like they made the demo then realized they didn't have the funding to continue it a decided to keep the lower quality consistent throughout

It's a shame false advertising seems to be legal in the gaming industry. Otherwise this kind of stuff wouldn't happen.

i played this pc game maxed out on a decent rig.
it was crap,nothing like what that demo was.

how can games comapnies complain about piracy,2nd hand market etc etc.
yet be allowed to fraud consumers,its wrong.
glad i got a downloaded copy as my final demo before buying from shop.
as usual using piracy as a demo has saved me money.
wont play this game for free

Was there actually a playable demo or is that just a demo shown of the game, but not released to the public?

If not, how do you know its nothing like the demo was? Those sequences shown in the demo, are they in the final game? Or is it totally different?

The only differences I see are the graphics, which is really not that important at all.

If those same sequences from the demo are in the final game, then it's pretty much the same game, only difference is the graphics. Yes they are worse, who cares?

What matters is the gameplay different? If those sequences in the demo are not even in the final game, then THATS a problem and is damn right false advertising.

the two in my opinion go hand in hand, one is enhanced by the other.

A game to me really cant be a great game unless it is visually appealing in some sort of way.

But yes this game has horrible textures which no AAA developer has any excuse for when modders can retexture skyrim and make it look immaculate within a few months.

But the games problems dont end there, the story is juvenile, the controls clunky, the animations completely unfinished and glitchy, the Ai broken, the dialogue and voice acting embarassing....

gearbox is incompetent with these side games (not borderlands) such a shame.

i think this as to do with the amateur developing teams gearbox assigns for these games.

Even Raven Software from Activision provided better games than Gearbox lately without counting Borderlands of course.

The demo was probably scaled down to fit console limitations because surely a PC could handle those graphics shown in the demo...

I thought something was wrong or missing when I started to play the first mission, I was like: WTF is this??

Then I saw the demo footage for comparison....

I hope GB/SEGA or whoevers fault this is, take a hit/loss, and rethink things.
