Microsoft has 150 people in Santa Monica creating content for its 46 million Xbox Live subscribers

Microsoft’s Xbox project, largely forgotten in last year’s Windows and Windows Phone race to eight, is back in the spotlight. Today at the D: Dive Into Media conference, Microsoft let loose some fresh statistics concerning its console, and also revealed how heavily it is investing in creating content and experiences for its living room device.

Microsoft has sold more than 75 million Xbox consoles. Those with an Xbox account average 87 hours per month on their console. There are now 46 million Xbox Live subscribers. 38% of users are women, and 51% have kids. So, males are still the majority, but the Xbox audience is more than a third female, and majority older

OOOoooooo.....Santa Monica
and not "Santa Monica Studio"
-_- nice try with that title...(rolls eyes)

koehler834079d ago

Santa Monica is a huge tech hub. What's the problem? Do you need them to name all 150 people individually?

portal_24080d ago

Of that 46 million, I wonder how many actually have Gold.

IronFistChinMi4079d ago

46 million. Key word being "subscribers".

Riderz13374079d ago (Edited 4079d ago )

Lol it's not 46m Gold members. When it says "Xbox Live Subscribers" it includes silver members (Who are the majority), as well as Gold.

BlmThug4079d ago

@Rider 46 million is how many have gold. Quite a few months back, MS announced they have over 40 million Gold Subscribers so it's understandable that number is now 46 million.

@BlmThug - Talking about this broski?

"Ballmer said that of those 66 million Xbox 360 consoles, there are 40 million users who have signed up for an online Xbox Live account."

SIGNED UP FOR AN ONLINE XBOX LIVE ACCOUNT

Sorry to rain down on your parade.

Hicken4079d ago

If it were 46 million Gold members, they'd say that. Silver members also count as subscribers, do they not? Hell, even I have a Silver account I've used for Rock Band a handful of times.

nukeitall4079d ago

I think MS has in the past said more than half of their XBL subscribers are Gold members.

That alone is almost a billion dollars in revenue annually.

BitbyDeath4079d ago (Edited 4079d ago )

Posted this in another thread -

46 million = Silver and Gold.

http://attackofthefanboy.co...

For comparison sake last year they had 40 million silver and gold

http://www.ign.com/articles...

Last count (back in 2010) showed 12.5 million paid so it may be as high as 20 million today.

Its 46m GOLD subscribers the rest are silver. Riderz is bring up outdated sources. The information has been updated to 46M GOLD subscribers.

Every account made on Xbox starts as a silver or "free" member (With an option to get a free month of gold). MS doesn't count silver.

portal_24079d ago

No, you are all wrong:
http://www.microsoft.com/en...
"The Xbox LIVE community has grown to 46 million members"
Hence paying + non-paying.

Jakens4079d ago

MS wants 46 million live members on next gen and has only now started thinking about how they can do it. Some soccor ball for my avatar is not enough.

Jakens4079d ago

I have hopes for MS too, you know. I want them to do well. I really will buy their next system, even if I'm not totally into all of it. They got me...

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4079d ago (Edited 4079d ago )

ok I am happy for xbox gamers..

Garrison4079d ago

"I need closers dammit!! Close the Sale!! CLOSE the sale! lets get that money!!" - dude running the place.

"You there! Make sure the Ads hit them until their eyeballs HURT!"

Dms20124079d ago

Well, that is the ignorant, low information view of Microsoft.

Xbox 360 Turns 18: Three Cheers to Live, Halo, and Red Rings

The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.

darthv72145d ago

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

isarai145d ago

The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.

TheBrainZ145d ago

So many brilliant games. I still have one stored somewhere.

LG_Fox_Brazil145d ago

I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces

I remember when Live turned five and they had special edition controllers made and everything. Kind of wished they would do that again for the 20th.

Orchard516d ago

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows90516d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos516d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows90516d ago (Edited 516d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.

Profchaos516d ago (Edited 516d ago )

Today would of been the perfect day to drop halo 2 the original bc version free on gwg.... If only
