Could the PS4 Have a PS3 Chip On Board?

It would be an incredibly smart move for Sony to provide two SKU's at launch, one with BC; even smarter to make it a limited edition. That thing would be snapped up faster than a 12-year-old at an R. Kelly concert.

No a guru on this, but all that tech is from 2005 so by now it should be able to get integrated at little to now cost right? I think Sony should have something, whether it be Gaikai or PSN where gamers can keep their accounts fully updated to the next Playstation. I personally will keep my PS3 around until it finally goes. Even though I am sure I'll use the PS4 90% of the time (Unless no BC then until I have completed all the PS3 games I want to), I will keep my PS3 for bluray in my bedroom. It's still a center for media and whatnots.

that has been my thought as well. a cell chip used for the ps3 that enables BC for the Playstation 4 has to be dirt cheap at this point.

It would be amazing to have the PS4 capable of playing PS1-4 games. I'd pay extra for that!

I just don't see how they can do BC without having a chip. At least when you have a disc. If its something you downloaded then they could use Gaikai to look at your account and stream the games you've bought. However, I (like many ppl) have a lot of disc based games that I'd want to play everything on one platform. We'll see though.

My phat ps3 was bc so im sure whatever Sony has planned they will go the same route initially.

Well if it aint back wards compatible hopefully a emulator will come out on pc eventually

although backward compatibility for me would be nice, im not fussed about it generally. i will be picking a ps4 for ps4 games. shocking eh? of it increases the cost of a ps4 significantly i would rather not have it unless there are multiple skus offered of which i think would be the best route to follow
