Latest Issue Of Games TM Scores Aliens: Colonial Marines 4 Out Of 10

The latest issue of Games TM contains a review for Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines, and they certainly were not impressed by it.

Ouch... I thought this game mite not live up to the hype but 4/10...

I'll hold my final judgement till I actually get some hands on with it, but personally I was really expecting a lot more from this game.

Just make sure you don't spend money to make your final judgement, because you'll really regret it. This game is awful.

They're trying to play off the nostalgia of the fanbase to sucker people like us in thinking "Oh, it can't be that bad..." but really, it IS that bad.

Hummm... I guess the only game Gearbox Software does well is Borderlands.

Don't forget Brothers in Arms. I loved those games, although the new one is heading in a radical new direction in comparison to the old games. Be interesting to see how that turns out.

On the Games TM score system, a 5 is for a game that performs adequately, or in other words an average game, so they'd saying it was a bit below average.

To me, that equals a game that might be worth picking up when I can get it for £5 to £10. I stress might, depending on what else I hear about it.

It's a shame, but even I admit that as release drew near each new trailer and screenshot was putting me off, and this review confirmed my fears.

my god, i'm preying this game really isn't as bad as they say. i for see alot of fan rage towards Gearbox.

Why do some third party devs fail so hard? just don't bother if you're gonna do a halfed ass job. It just doesn't sit well on your portfolio.

If you look at the game's Wikipedia page, Gearbox only touched upon this game, they're advertising it as a Gearbox game so people get hyped into buying it. But in reality they're working with 3 other developers. It even hides the other developers under "association with"

It's been getting mixed reviews so far, from 4- 7.9 I've seen. So far.... This might be a game that either hate, or love.

Could be a case of early reviews, but I think the skeptics on here are about to be proven right. There was a guy claiming to have a copy last week, and said it was downright unpolished, buggy, and pretty much lacking in fun... he had around 40 downvotes. I wonder how the tide will sway after more reviews come out?

Edit: Ahh, just noticed that this review doesn't bother with the multiplayer aspect. That could make a difference.

Called it: (26 Days Ago) "When the game was initially announced back in 2008, I was undeniably hyped, it was originally a highly tactical, squad-based FPS (Think Rainbow Six in Space with Alien's Horror Atmosphere), you issued commands to your 3 AI Companions, requesting them the weld doors shut, guard doorways, vents, floor panels etc, also, there was a great co-operative gameplay mechanic where if playing campaign with a friend you each command one of the two remaining AI companions, giving the second player equal experience to the host.

However, due to Gearbox's shifting focus towards the recently acquired Duke Nukem franchise and then with development of the much requested Borderlands sequel, this game became forgotten about, and, it would seem unfortunately, in order to release it prior to the next generations arrival, it's been stripped down to a bland, generic shooter."

There are two Sci-fi movie franchises developers hardly ever get right..

Star Wars & Aliens...not since the Snes/Gamecube for Star Wars games that were based on the actual movie (not spin off) and I cannot remember a really good Alien game since PS1 days...

Very disappointed...I was really looking forward to this.

I agree with you on Aliens (the original AvP was great though), but Star Wars: KotOR was awesome for it's time, although you would expect both franchises to translate to games really well.
