To be honest, these rumors are getting wayyyy out of control. I am getting sick and tired of these rumors about both PS4 or Orbis and Xbox 720, Next, 8, 3 or whatever the heck they'll call it.

I can't wait for Feb 20. I am dead sure that SONY won't disclose all the technical details regarding the ram, processor. Maybe some but not all but that'll at least put PS4 rumors to rest for a while.

And I wish that M$ would come out and announce something too.

Some of these rumors are just too crazy. I don't even want to think about any console manufacturer asking us to "stay online" to play games and to keep certain accessories plugged in for a game to work. These types of decisions are going to destroy PS4/720 and even the whole console gaming experience. And I think people at SONY and Microsoft are smart enough to know this and probably laugh their asses off when they read all these rumors circulating online.

If you know anything about game development for any of the big three then you would understand the tightly controlled nature of a dev kit. You would understand the restrictive and illegal nature of allowing unauthorized access to a kit not to mention selling one. He still has his account on Ebay.

Do you actually believe MS would allow a real Durango dev kit to be sold to the public? His account would have been suspended and he would have been prosecuted 100 different ways to Tuesday. All Kotaku has accomplished is making themselves more of a butt in journalism than they were yesterday. The people at Gaf are having a field day.

The part where it gets tricky is how he said development software was included. He claimed his first auction never went through do to copyright claims by MS.

Anyway a developer or someone who knows a developer could be quite sneaky by listing a durango kit that was built off parts from newegg and then including a C++ app.

Kinnect me please... He did have the dev kit on ebay, but that was the 1st version, as stated per EA they have the third veriosn of it and most likely receive another for final dev and tool adding for easier compatability.

Never going to happen as long as MS is handling all the match making servers(with the exception of EA games). They may not be dedicated, but it still cost a lot of money to handle hundreds of online games, without the Live fee MS would have to shut games down and indie devs wouldn't be able to afford online play in their titles. A lot of people don't seem to realize this, but on other consoles or steam, devs and publishers are renting servers out of their own pocket. It's the only reason I don't complain about paying. And they make too much profit from it of course.

HDMI 1.4 supports 1080p at 60fps, which is enough for 1080p 3D at 30FPS.

Besides the new consoles will likely have the latest HDMI spec which is supposedly coming this year.

60fps @ 24hz makes no sense whatsoever. Besides that is not the limit of HDMI 1.4. HDMI 1.4 can support 4K at 24fps, but at 1080p it's up to 60fps.

Kinect 1 was never really the issue. The problem was the USB inputs on the original 360s. The ports couldn't support enough throughput.

It sounds intriguing. Nice specs, I must admit. But I am with AngelicIceDiamond. It seems a little bit forced. I know why they do it: to gain major support. You can only do that if you can guarantee everyone has one.

I didn't like Kinect in the first place. As an add-on, yes, but mandatory? Full Kinect games are not my thing, and where it "adds" features, again, those seem to be forced, or gimmicky. This will now force every developer to come up with at least some feature to justify Kinect is "supported" by the game, no matter how stupid it will be.

The installing is transparent, so I wouldn't be worried about that...but if I'd want to "waste" HDD space, I rather buy the game online anyway. If I'm gonna go buy a disk I'd rather not fill up my HDD. I have a 500GB in my PS3, and guess what, it's full...did never imagine that would happen so fast. But like I said, the only reason I like that is because of the convenience that I don't have to get up and find the game disk...at the same time, one MassEffect DL is 12GB...takes a night.

I am curious how this thing runs. It looks like a nice box. But I fear MS is overloading this thing a little. Consoles were supposed to be lean and mean. Not bloated. I can build me a media center for that.

But specs wise it will be a tight race. We'll see. I'm more a PS guy, and if Sony will be up to the task I'd still go with that. Both will be freaking fast, so it'll be a tougher decision this time.

Some of that info isn't from any source, it being a developer or a insider trader. Some of that info is from the leaked MSFT 720 docs that MSFT had a legal partner removed from most websites. Those specs are old MSFT internal plans that were leaked in the docs.

This dam thing is going to be a beast. Powerful enough to multi task all of MSFT's software products. A Home theater PC hybrid for sure.

MSFT is going to go all out with the new marketshare and money from the success of the 360 to back them up. Being greedy with 360 price cuts to take the massive hit with the 720 price.

The new 360 subsidised payment plan is a precursor test for the 720 due to its more than likely steep priced based on its advanced hardware.

Only cool thing I could see about Kinect like this would be as media player and child safety feature. You can already put safety locks in place but if Kinect could recognize people better you could theoretically put time constraints on a child's play time or deny them access to certain features (inappropriate web/app content/camera images), or even have online purchases require the adult to be present.

Granted I don't see it happening but it would be technically possible and some of the few features that would make sense. It all comes down to what they think about as Kinect isn't really bad technology just not designed or used specifically for xbox's original audience.

There will be people suing Microsoft left right and centre for charging them for additional users who may have been sat in the same room but not participating in watching the movie. Well for some reason they put a USB 3.0 in it, but then a 50MB a second hard drive. A hard drive so old they had to go back to 1999 to order it. According to the article, the hard drive is only 50MB a second.

You are playing a game whose disk is already inserted i your xbox. But now you want to play a game that you downloaded of the xbox live and is stored on your hard drive. Streamless switching between the two titles not having to quit one, lose any progress or anything of that sort.

My guess is it's like the Vita or Cell Phones as the article says.

You can play Halo 5, stop mid game and check a how to guide for Halo 5 on youtube, and comeback without ever having to cancel out of the game or needing another device. It's just a goof feature to have.

As far as gaming it's decent for playing Halo, then moving on to play Gears with your friends without having to close out of Halo, so you can start back in the same spot once you're done with Gears.

But this makes me thing that the games will install completely to the HDD, or else there's going to be a need to switch disk. Not all games will be 50GB, but now that both MS and Sony have Blu Ray there will be a lot less compression going on which means most games will be 10+ GB, and that HDD will fill up quickly.

They need to be compatible with 1+ TB HDD in the future.

The thing is, if games are expected to look near as good as even PC games from last few years the size of game installs will actually be closer to 20+ quite often so it will fill even faster. 10gb is almost unheard of nowadays on the PC and a few break 30 each year (not just MMOs anymore). If true its only 500 and full installs it won't last long at all. I bet though MS will sell you 1tb+ soon after though ;)

Well, that's not gonna work for games if we want games which use the maximum of RAM available. 4 or 8GB is quite a bit.

Unless it is limiting this somewhat, if you switch between games this needs to be saved to the HDD. The Vita can switch between games, but it can't run them at the same time. It can, however, run a game and some apps. My guess it is dependent if that said app can share resources (network, RAM) with the game, and the game does not allocate those exclusively (there, for example some games switch of WiFi - which will disable Skype, for example).

I can see running some "apps" (or services) with the game, but not 2 games at the same time. "Save states" for a games, I can imagine, yes. But not running them at the same time. Console games unlike phone games, run in a fixed environment and like to use every possible resource they can get. I'm curious how much RAM will be available out of the 8GB.

- BTW: Swapping 4GB GDDR5 is faster than 8 from DDR3 (LOL, but bottleneck is the drive, anyway). Just saying. (not serious). I'd expect this to be a common feature of both next gen consoles. Vita already does that, so why wouldn't the console do it (works with messaging, email, skype, etc).

I think that we have to look at it more as being part of the console and not just an accessory. You may not necessarily have to use Kinect to play the games. But, Kinect is a part of the console itself. May have to have it plugged in to use the console, but that may not mean we have always use it when playing something.

I really like the idea of the installs.
You can put the disc in and play instantly. While you are playing your first 10 minutes of the game, the install happens in the background so you don't even notice.

So it is installed (wit all the benefits) and it plays instantly. Nice idea.

I don't get this, If a game is installing in the background it is currently reading from the disk. If you are playing a game at the same time then you are also currently reading from the disk so as it hasn't installed yet to be able to read from the HDD. As far as I'm aware a disk can't be read twice at the same time. I smell a rat on this one.

Sigh.....seems like we cant get away from rumors from an "unnamed source" these days. Seems to me that it'll be better to wait and hear what the next Xbox has from Microsoft, not someone who wont even identify themselves.

To those bashing the next Kinect, we know the next Xbox will release with it, get over it. The Wii U launched with a Gamepad that has a camera on it, and the PS4 is rumored to launch with the next PS Eye which is supposed to support voice commands and the like as well.

I'm more interested in finding actual facts and those wont be revealed until the companies decide to do so.

You do realize if he identifies himself he can get himself in trouble legally. Plus the fact that he tried to actually sell a dev kit puts gives him some credibility, no matter how stupid it is of him to try and sell that kit since it could land him in trouble.

Well the fact that he has an Ebay account and Paypal, Microsoft could have easily let people know who he was if they really thought he had some real information.

I'd stick by what the official documents said more than some random person claiming to have these things. I didn't believe it back then, I don't believe it now.

His name is obviously known and Microsoft doesn't really seem to care or take it seriously.

I could list dev kits on Ebay, take them down before the auction ends and say Microsoft intervened too. It doesn't mean I'm legit.

The only thing I'd have a problem with, is the charging per person to watch a movie. Although I doubt it would affect me as I live in a 2 person household.

My current Kinect is always on, so no change there, but it occasionally picks up a noise from a program I'm watching and pauses/rewinds it. They need to improve that.

App-juggling sounds great and I hope that's true. Sports/driving game + Music app = win.

Can't wait to see full game multi tasking in action but it also raises questions. Each game requires an install which you can currently also do on the 360, but at the moment you are still required to keep the disk in the drive.

If Durango can multi task games does this confirm that once a game is installed you won't be able to sell it/let somebody borrow it? otherwise how can it multi task retail disk based games?

I assumed multi tasking with apps would be a launch feature (pause a game, check facebook, check a web page, watch a couple of episodes on netflix and then switch back to the game etc) but I'm very interested in multi tasking between games. I like the idea of being able to spend a couple of hours in something like Skyrim and then flick over to Halo for a few online games at the touch of a button and then head back whenever I want, with no going back to the dashboard or anything in between. Kinda like changing channels on TV.

so most of the ram is going to be gobbled by Kinect, game swapping, and other apps running concurrently. Same amout of onboard ram as the Wii U although faster. A 60 or so percent faster gpu, and an 8 core cpu running at 1.6. It sounds good, tho expensive for the kinect. And like MS will be blocking used game sales afterall

Im a Playstation user and Id never buy an Xbox, Im quite open about that. The thing is I dont want MS to fail, their success this generation have pushed Sony to improve their offering. Would we have PS+ if not for live? The upgrades to the OS? However big a fan you are give MS credit where its due, they helped shape the PS3.

Microsofts stance next gen is important for us all. If they insist on things like mandatory kinnect, a focus on casual gamers and multi media usage over hardcore games then how much of an impact will that have on Sony?

I stand corrected ... The Gamecube controller will work with the Wii for "gamecube only" games, and the PS2 controller will work IF you have the PS2 to PS3 converter adaptor. So you really it doesn't just work with it. regardless... I stand corrected.
