"GamesTM went as far as to say that it’s “almost certainly the best Metal Gear game released this generation.”

They then go on to say "Revengeance will take around six to eight hours to complete"

6-8 hours? and its supposed to be the "best" Metal Gear game this gen, thats ridiculous

Batzi4084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

The completion time:

1- Does not include cutscenes
2- Time resets to 0 if checkpoint is not reached or level not completed

Typical Platinum Games.

SCW19824084d ago

Vanquish to about 7 to 8 and that was perfect for that roller coaster ride. Length doesn't matter if they can pack in as many holy shit moments as vanquish did.

Irishguy954084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

Don't know why you're getting disagree's. That is what platinum games do. Either way it doesn't need justification for being short.(even though it isn't really short) Can't wait to get my hands on this. Best Hack and Slash this gen...and now even going so far as to say it's better than MGS4?

Edit:
@ Dedicatedgamers...why is is so hard to believe? Kojima himself approves of this game. Peace walker and MGS4 are great. It doesn't mean better games don't exist.

Edit---
Stupid argument again. Do you have a favorite game rjdofu? Yes? Do you like games more than others at all? Yes? Then realize how bad the argument of comparing video's games quality is. If someone doesn't like Hack and Slash, it would be understandable if they like Cod and hate Rising. If they like Hack and slash too..they should be able to compare how much they like each game

brish4084d ago

@SCW1982

I downloaded the Vanquish demo and originally got owned by it. Eventually I was able to beat it after several tries then discovered there was a score, and time associated with beating it.

Comparing how I did to others I realized that I didn't do so well. So I tried to improve my score.

After a while I was able to finally beat it quickly and I looked at the clock and realized I had been playing the demo for over 5 hours!

I bought the game!

Vanquish is an amazing game. Metal Gear Rising was put in good hands!

rjdofu4084d ago

@Irishguy95: MGS are not even hack & slash, what's the point of comparing them?

EVILDEAD3604084d ago

Go Platinum.

Can't wait to play this. Vanquish derseved so much more praise for what it tried to do.

Ritsujun4083d ago

Hellsvacancy plays too much COD.

morganfell4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

I played the demo and if the demo is a sample of the game as it should be, then the fact is it does not stand as the best Metal Gear game this generation.

That award did and still does go to MGS4, a landmark achievement in gamemaking and player experience.

I am not saying MGR isn't enjoyable, but the game is eclipsed by not only MGS4 but Peacewalker as well. If you classifiy the HD versions of MGS2 and MGS3 as being this generation then you can add those to the list.

Personally I felt like I was playing a combination of Vanquish meets Binary Domain meets Ninja Gaiden.

NewsForSnowflakes4084d ago

Metal Gear Solid 4 can be complete in under 3 hours and that game is a masterpiece.

LightofDarkness4084d ago

MGS4 was even less than that (excluding cutscenes). I had to beat it in under 5 hours to get the Big Boss Emblem, if I recall correctly.

dedicatedtogamers4084d ago

Better than MGS4? Better than Peace Walker?

Methinks GamesTM is just trying to get the hits from fanboys now that this Metal Gear is *cough*multiplatform*cough*

ALLWRONG4084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

You sound kinda bitter that a MG game is multiplatform.

MaxXAttaxX4084d ago

I don't care that it's multiplatform. But to claim that it's better than any MGS game this gen, let alone comparable in the first place, is ridiculous.

kenshiro1004083d ago

...He's bitter over a game that has nothing to do with the original series.

Seriously?

Either way, I'm glad that this game is being well received. I enjoyed the demo and will definitely put together some money to get it later on.

ALLWRONG4083d ago

"that has nothing to do with the original series"

Now you sound bitter.

Every early review say game is good. Usually devs lets best reviews go out first. Uusally bad reviews comes last, same thing with movies.

x5exotic4084d ago

#mr.garrison RETARD ALERT!

How long the game is doesn't mean sh!t. Skyrim is well over a 100 and it was mediocre.

Old McGroin4083d ago

"Skyrim is well over a 100 and it was mediocre."

Agreed. Skyrim felt like having a second job, it had 0% fun.

MoveTheGlow4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

I loved the expansiveness of Skyrim, and I loved the design and quick gameplay of Bayonetta and DMC3. There's a place for both, and there's a place for Revengeance too - Platinum has kicked butt before, and they'll kick butt again.

This is where I don't get the resistance to this spinoff. DMC, a reboot of the entire Devil May Cry series, comes out by a team who doesn't know 60fps from Honey Boo Boo - yes, fire away! As Cave Johnson said, "GET MAD!"

MGS Rising Revengeance, a resuscitation attempt on a nearly-dead spinoff, gets picked up by an insanely solid team, and we get the same anger? Pfffft. And 6-8 hours for a hack-and-slash game is excellent, because if the gameplay's solid enough and there are a few extras to earn, it's a multiple-playthroughs kind of game. Just like Bayonetta or DMC3. I'll be playing this one for sure.

Outside_ofthe_Box4084d ago

No way it's better than MGS4. By playing the MGR demo alone I know that the story won't match MGS4's quality. I did enjoy the Rising demo however and I'm not even a fan of hack and slash. I'm definitely going to pick this game up.

IAmLee4084d ago

I was looking forward to this until I played the demo..

StrawberryDiesel4204083d ago

so you were hoping to buy a shit game and got an amazing demo so you're no longer looking forward to it?

4084d ago
rezzah4084d ago

When did time ever represent experience?

Unless by your logic the best games out there are those which never end.

coffinxnails4083d ago

they could always add 8 FUCKING HOURS of cutscenes like mgs4 to make it feel longer

wishingW3L4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

how can he even compare games that are in completely different genres? What if I don't like stealth games or hack & slash...?

floetry1014083d ago

Probably the most misguided comment ever? Short length doesn't suddenly make a game garbage.

*ahem*

MGS4, Journey, Vanquish, God of War 1-3 etc. etc.

Yah, those can't be masterpieces apparently.

hano4083d ago (Edited 4083d ago )

If a game is bad, I don't care how long it is.

If the game is good and not long I wouldn't mind. 6-8 hours of goodness is better than 20 hours of artificially prolonged gameplay.

However, let's see if this game is actually that good.

Old McGroin4083d ago

"They then go on to say "Revengeance will take around six to eight hours to complete"

6-8 hours? and its supposed to be the "best" Metal Gear game this gen, thats ridiculous"

Not so ridiculous when you consider that MGS4 was 98% cutscenes. Bad cutscenes.

Batzi4084d ago

Getting the game regardless of what score it gets.

Crystallis4084d ago

Agreed, 7-8 hours is about right for a hack N slash.

Kevlar0094083d ago

What's important is replayability. If the kills are stylized and engaging enough, what's stopping you from doing it again?

Hanso4084d ago

me too
it has already Platinum Games Seal of approval :D

Kevlar0094083d ago

Platinum Games is certainly one of the best developers to come about the last five or so years. And the fact they've made great titles for each of the Big Three is something we can all respect

4084d ago Replies(3)
rbailey4084d ago

Definitely getting the game no matter what but to say It's the best Metal Gear game released this generation is crazy. Where does that leave Metal Gear Solid 4? Perhaps the reviewer decided not to play that game.

DigitalAnalog4084d ago

He said "Almost". There's a difference you know.

MrAnderson4084d ago

I hated MGS4, and I loved 1 & 3, and I enjoyed #2. 4 was nothing but long cut scenes, some crawling on your stomach, and a lengthy "follow that guy" sequence that took up the entirity of act 3.

giovonni4084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

I agree MrAnderson. The length of Cut Scenes killed it for me, and I'm a big fan of metal gear since NES days. I wanted the game to unfold through game play and telecom talks like previous metal gear games. There were even moments when I felt I didn't need to know certain information.
I agree with you. I find the game to be a good game, but not the greatest game I've played based around balance of story, controls, plot twist, etc. I would give that to Bioshock,

fsfsxii4084d ago

I think the cut-scenes were for the story you know, it would have made since if you stated that you don't understand the story :)
True fans of MGS series enjoyed MGS4 no matter what, and that game is the best game this gen, at least to me.

giovonni4083d ago

I understood the story fully, however there was no need for certain information to be so long. for example, the mission briefings, really? Even the guy who unlocks your weapons. He opened up to sneak like he was Barbara Walters. He even gave you a long back story of the bosses you killed is there a real need to know almost 20 minutes worth of info on every boss? Trust, I am a huge fan of metal gear,I just want it to go back to unfolding through game play, and telecom talks. not long Cut scenes

Imalwaysright4083d ago

"... was nothing but long cut scenes, some crawling on your stomach, and a lengthy "follow that guy" sequence that took up the entirity of act 3."

That is exactly how i felt playing MGS4. It has better gameplay than the previous games but we can barely put that gameplay to test.

Rampaged Death4084d ago

This is very positive. Thoroughly enjoyed the demo.

ElementX4084d ago

I remember when this was announced there were tons of haters because it was also coming to 360.

Plasticgearsolid4084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

It never was just coming to 360. Microsoft played a clever trick on saying at E3 the following 10 games (not positive the on number) are exclusive and metal gear rising was immediately announced right after there 10 exclusives, to blend in with the lump of exclusives. Kojima never mention PS3 during the event because it was the Microsoft press conference they never mention the competitor. After Kojima stated in many interviews that the project was indeed multi platform. Microsoft just did a good job on alluding it to seem like it was exclusive

Plasticgearsolid4084d ago

Wow when i replyed to his comment his "also" was at first a "just"

rezzah4084d ago

Don't know why you got disagrees because that's exactly how it happened.

The appearance of exclusivity, only to find out later that it was multi-platform.

SAE4084d ago (Edited 4084d ago )

It's normal reaction from fans. No one can blame them. Even i who love the old version and this version still think that it would be a lot better if it was a ps3 exclusive. Focus on making one version instead of 2/3 versions would help it a lot in every aspect. But i get over it. Same with ground zero but that one looked so amazing and i even doubt it's a ps3/360 game..

Can't wait >.< !!!! TNTNTTN

BitbyDeath4084d ago

Ground Zero is getting a lot more praise because it is a real MGS game as opposed to rising which is just a hack and slash.

It's like how FF changed directions, we don't want that we want the real game.

Metal Gear Solid Can Work Without Hideo Kojima

There are more good non-Kojima Metal Gear games than one would realize. Scientifically, three examples prove a trend, and in this feature are three excellent Metal Gear games that Hideo Kojima did not direct.

I hope so, still cant forget MGS Survive , the first MGS game without Kojima involvement and it was a complete failure, the thing is Kojima way of thinking is outside the box and that's why their games 99% end up unique, original and a almost instant classic. MGS series are full of intricate things that somehows connects to each other, Lalulilelo, the Patriots, Outher heaven, Foxhound, PMCs , heck even Kojima manage to insert DARPA in there lol, a US government Defense Agency. So is really great MGS3 Remake is reviving the series but without Kojima who knows of the end result, I hope Konami have another or more developers insight their studios who can also think outside the box.

senorfartcushion319d ago

It actually can’t. But it won’t matter.

Kojima is Metal Gear the same way that Christopher Nolan is The Dark Knight, or David Lynch is Twin Peaks: The Return episode 8. Artistry is the creation of a thing from your own thoughts and feelings. Take away the original artist’s thoughts and feelings and you have a new thing entirely.

This isn’t going to stop the mega corporation creating a fake version and spending millions TELLING customers that it’s made with the same thoughts and feelings. The masses will buy the idea the same way the corporation will sell the idea.

just_looken318d ago

I guess everyone forgot metal gear solid rising was tossed to platnium games with a story script and that is it.

Z501318d ago

Kojima was involved in Rising tho

just_looken317d ago

kpjima just did the story everything else was platnium games look it up.

Hence i said script

neutralgamer1992318d ago

i think the bigger issue is whether or not Konami is actually interested in fully funding AAA games development. Even this remake is done by a studio not really known in gaming industry. Quality remake/projets vs cheap cash in quick releases. Which way will Konami head. I am a huge MGS fan and i feel like Kojima did long time MGS fans dirty with how made MGS5 and it's story elements

senorfartcushion318d ago

Remakes and remasters provide a gateway through to producing AAA games faster and cheaper.

RaveTears318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Actually MGS Portable Ops which was technically the first canon MGS game that Kojima wasn’t mainly involved with it. Kojima was only the producer but not the writer and director.

Konami did other MGS spin off that were successful but that because Konami put effort. Just along Konami is not lazy and cash grab, they can a MGS game without Kojima.

i mean sure, but he made it the thing it is today and why people love it so much.

i think its not easy to replicate.

Flawlessmic319d ago

I doubt it could.

Say what you want about the bloke, but his games are uniquely his.

I don't think anyone makes games like kojima does, for better or worse.

Could mgs continue without him, yea maybe, but it would lacking his genius so wouldn't be the same.

Soulsborne319d ago

Well , he already created it. They just have to recreate it? Not like its a new concept or IP. Trash article.

Terry_B319d ago

Yes. It only needs motivated clever people.

Why We Need Metal Gear Rising 2

Demand for a sequel is about to skyrocket, like the good ol' days of 2013!

In case you're living under a suspiciously rock-shaped object, the recent PlayStation Showcase revealed that a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 will be coming, alongside a Master Collection of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3. While it is a remake of an existing game, there's a great deal of significance to it, considering the last time a game in the series came out was back in 2018 with Metal Gear Survive (and the less said about that, the better). Konami's decision to pull a Konami and feud with series creator Hideo Kojima has long left the fate of Metal Gear uncertain, but this recent announcement has led to all bets being off as to where Metal Gear can go from here.
