Half-Life VR For Oculus Rift Looks Epically Amazing, New Video Showcases Head & Gun Tracking

DSOGaming writes: "Nathan Andrews has released a new video, showcasing his Half-Life Oculus Rift mod. Half-Life VR adds full head tracking and weapon tracking to Half-Life 2 in preparation for the Oculus Rift dev kit launch. In this video Nathan Andrews is using two hillcrest trackers, the same ones John Carmack used in his E3 and quakecon demos of the early rift prototype. This is full 360 degree, 1 to 1 tracking on both the head and weapon, there are no gimmicks or constraints between where you aim and your field of view. Nathan Andrews mod appears to be also compatible with FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod. This looks epic, so go ahead and watch it. VR is almost upon us!"

I really wonder how much this is going to cost? If the price is right and if it works as well as they say it does I might get it!

Pandamobile4089d ago

The consumer version will be $200-$300 last I heard.

adorie4089d ago

This looks so promising.

KUV19774089d ago

I really don't believe that. Right now the official developer price is $300 with 'only' a shared 1280x800-Display, that is 640x800 Pixel per eye. They plan to improve it for the retail version which will up the price a bit, plus they have no competition whatsoever. I believe they will end up selling it at $500. They will want to make some money from it. It will still be cheap for what it offers. I just hope next gen consoles will be compatible with it. I'm kind of glad now that I have a comfortably big space in the living room.

Pandamobile4089d ago

Their aim is to have it between $200-$300.

“We're trying to get the best parts, and after that we turn that over to our lead engineer Jack McCauley - he was the lead engineer on all the Guitar Hero games - and it's his job to get on to the factories to give it to us for whatever we need it to be. He knows exactly how you hit that market. It'll definitely be affordable. Nobody is going to buy a $1000 head-mounted display, but a $200 device? People will buy that. I mean, our developer kits are $300, and I actually think our consumer version is going to be cheaper than that - almost certainly. But even at $300 it's really quite a bargain.”

BullyMangler4089d ago

looks like it gonna cost less than 400 schmuck$ .

this is way healthier than "play sitting", not to mention the EMF pollution emitted by the goggz . .

will revolutionize Hunting games forever .. .

e-p-ayeaH4089d ago (Edited 4089d ago )

look at the guy standing and spining around like a complete idiot lmao.

this looks a complete joke to me.

Pandamobile4089d ago

I really don't think anyone gives a rat's ass about your opinion when this product is being backed by some of the biggest names in the industry.

papashango4089d ago

So valve and epic supported kinect?

News to me

N0S3LFESTEEM4089d ago

Kinect looks far worse... ps3 has a glowing lollipop... and wii has the waggle. Compared to those this looks bad ass.

Plagasx4089d ago

Keep thinking like that and we'll never move forward.

PhantomTommy4089d ago

This really makes Kinect and Move look like an absolute joke. Awesome stuff!

Pandamobile4089d ago

Yep, leave it to a small team in the PC hacker/modder community to create something more groundbreaking and awesome than two billion dollar enterprises.

UltraVegito4089d ago

Next Gen consoles really need to support these.

This has some potential.

N0S3LFESTEEM4089d ago

If these ever did take off it has the possibility to challenge the TV market. Imagine if cable companies started utilizing it on sporting events.

I can't fk with this list. They missed on alot of games probably before the writers times. Also I know people loved some portal but I was never a fan.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name41d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno41d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno41d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure41d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

Have to say it does look quite nice. Not a fan of frame generation though but can easily be turned off.

That suit looks amazing. We really do need a proper new valve game. They were front runners on creative innovative technology. That actually made a difference.

Playing HL2 for the first time and witnessing the animation and physics was literally stunning.

Number1TailzFan242d ago

The sad thing is the physics and world interaction are still pretty good today, because hardly any other game bothers in those areas.
