Why I Don’t Like DmC Devil May Cry – Reader’s Feature

GameCentral Reader: ''I recently borrowed and completed DmC Devil May Cry. As a big fan of the series I gave this reboot a chance, unfortunately I must say that in my opinion DmC is a step down from the original series. When I say that I mean the two areas that the original Devil May Cry series means the most to me: the gameplay and the characters.

In the realm of gameplay I loved the original Devil May Cry series for its smooth, creative, chaotic, over-the-top gameplay where you had to work for that SSS rank by switching weapons and styles on the fly, you could tackle any enemy anyway you wanted as long as it was stylish enough''

As much as most reviewers are trying to promote and defend this game, its time they accept that it was poorly presented. That not only did Capcom and NT failed to attract new fans, but they alienated too many of the old.

just-joe4091d ago

Exactly, What most people seem to over look is that NT openly expressed their dislike for the franchise as well as Dante and the former Developer (Platinum). They went out of their way to say that their game was better and if you didn't like, "fuck you, shut up" they'd say.

Baka-akaB4091d ago

True , but imo we dont even need to look at external stuff like interviews , judging the game is enough to know it is not worth it and good enough

just-joe4090d ago

@Baka-akaB Granted, but as the saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

MEsoJD4091d ago

I was a fan of devil may cry 1 and 3. That said I thought DMC was a great reboot and look forward to more.

TheBlackSmoke4090d ago (Edited 4090d ago )

8.4 average from 403 reviews submitted to n4g. Metacritic only counted 58 reviews (360), so there's a lot of non corporate, independent sources who liked the game.

Stop making excuses, if its just not for your tastes then fine but its not a bad game no matter how many times you repeat yourselves over and over.

And once again, if you haven't played it then your review of it means nothing. If you played it and didn't like it then fine, but we all know you guys have a biased agenda with it and wouldn't give a fair review anyway.

@just joe, stop with the hyperbole. Find the video where NT say they hate DMC and where they tell you to "fuck off" with your opinions, it doesn't exist, you and others have fabricated and twisted every piece of information to fit your arguments. get a life, its been out for nearly a month now. Dont you have other games to moan about?

Godmars2904090d ago

You're missing the point: I don't want to buy the game.

I've watched gameplay and cutscenes, played the demo, and I don't want THAT game. Why you're trying, why you think, you can shame into doing otherwise is a futile exercise.

SpiralTear4091d ago (Edited 4091d ago )

This is a serious question coming from someone who has yet to play the new DmC.

If the game had absolutely nothing to do with Devil May Cry, and was a brand-new franchise entirely, would it still get comparisons to Devil May Cry from the gameplay aspect? What I'm trying to ask is whether the gameplay really is like older Devil May Cry games, and if so, in what ways?

I'm still very divided on whether I'd like this game or not, and getting some feedback from those who've played it would be appreciated.

By the way, I read the article and just would like some other opinions.

Baka-akaB4091d ago

Well it would be called a clone but with a completely diferent spirit and focus , that's pretty much the extent of it .

Something like Darksiders drew far more from the old DMC titles , combat mechanic wise , and yet arent often compared to it .

jc485734091d ago (Edited 4091d ago )

I still see Heavenly Sword in this game more than DMC in general.

wishingW3L4091d ago (Edited 4091d ago )

that's true. DmC's combat is like an improved version of Heavenly Sword's. The similarities are uncanny even when it comes to character design (Kat and Kai, anyone?).

Hicken4091d ago

It's a solid game in its own right. I don't think anyone can HONESTLY deny this.

But it's only got the most basic relation, gameplay-wise, to the original series. None of the characters' personalities are the same, nor is there anything carried over in the way of story or lore.

Would it get comparisons to the original if it were titled something else? I think so. People would say it was a pretty good foray in the hack and slash genre.

HeavenlySnipes4091d ago

Its a very good game. Apparently because the reboot doesn't follow the formula of the games its trying to be different from, its a bad game

pr0t0typeknuckles4090d ago

i personally never said it was a bad game, its an okay hack n slash, but its a downright terrible DMC game, now i admit its better than DMC2 but thats about it.

OmegaSlayer4090d ago

Good game, but as a DevilMayCry game it stands just one little step higher DevilMayCry2

Don't we have enough games wit Devils and Fire in them ?

seriously beyond uncreative

SybaRat4091d ago

Or, I dunno, maybe some people can like the game and some people can't, and that's okay?

ziggurcat4091d ago

wow, the crybabies must've dug deep into the internet to find the one less-than-positive review of this game.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC4d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos4d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga3d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer4d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6024d ago (Edited 4d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya4d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde4d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP4d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Devil May Cry 5, the latest iteration in the iconic DMC franchise by Capcom, still holds its own as a fantastic hack-and-slash in 2024."
