Do we need announcements for announcements? Sony announced a press conference, but they are such a big deal people would listen if they just spoke. The idea behind announcing something is that you get a lot of excitement going for something specific , be it a product or an idea. When it is announced that there is going to be an announcement about something, Zack of GamerFitNation finds this akin to people talking just to hear their own voices.

The short answer is yes, otherwise how will people know they are holding a meeting/conference?? They want people to attend. That's like having a wedding but not announcing there is going to be one and just expecting everyone to show up.

I think that is mainly what the article means is it necessary for journalist to announce events that have already been announced plenty of times over. Using it for hits and a source of news that is already known.
