Shovelware has been around almost as long as software has. There is no simple answer as to how to stop it, but Zack over at Nintendo Gamer Thoughts can teach you how to spot it.
The Married Gamer: What’s cute, small and loved by nearly everyone even though they poop their pants? Hopefully you said “babies” otherwise, what were you thinking about? Now as adorable and lovable as babies are, maybe you would rather not deal with the dirty diapers and the other wonderfully messy responsibilities of babysitting a real baby. Well Ubisoft can help you there and has released Imagine Babyz for the Nintendo 3DS. Digital babysitting in 3D? Sounds like a good time to me.
Bitch Magazine: When I was a wee sprite of a thing, I remember changing my idea of what I would be “when I grew up” frequently. I wanted to be a fisherman like my Papa and uncles at one point. I believe I spent some time thinking that being a firefighter sounded cool because the hose truck looked like fun. I am sure there may have been some time where I thought that baby-sitting or raising kittens might have been fun as a career choice. I never imagined my choices were limited, because no one ever told me they were. The Imagine line of games from Ubisoft, however, almost seems to be telling young girl gamers that they have limited wants, indeed.
I kinda disagree with this article. These games were design for young girls. When these girls get older, they are not gonna want to be babysitters and fashion designers. Some might but most aren't.
gamrFeed - "These are video game franchises that begun their life on Wii, DS, PS3, X360, and PSP - not on earlier systems. It isn't strictly new IP - spinoff franchises from powerful brands, such as My Sims (from The Sims), Mario & Sonic at the Olympics (from Mario, Sonic, and Olympic games), and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (countless Star Wars games already exist) are included. PC sales are not included, but sales on other systems, such as PS2, are included in software totals so long as the new franchise began on Wii, DS, PS3, PSP or X360. With all that in mind, these are the twenty biggest new franchises in gaming."
Wow there's a lot more new franchises than I thought there were this generation. Still too many sequels though.
The biggest challenge for the industry is finding that balance between continuing a franchise and innovating new ones.
How dare you Sir! How dare you besmirch the reputation of such FINE franchises as these!
Looks like er .. what the heck are those?
I still couldn't believe the genre this fell under >_> -- http://www.gamestop.com/nin...
